Lo-fi means low fidelity, It's not just a genre. Fidelity is "quality of recording." "Do I sound like I'm on old time radio?" Nickle Back used a "Lo-fi" effect in Alive. Jethro Tull used it in Aqua Lung. It's almost like distortion, where distortion just turns up the gain/volume until it clips off the peaks and valleys, but lo-fi is a combination of a low pass filter and distortion. If you wanted to make your audio sound like it is coming through a telephone, you would use the lo-fi setting.

appreciate this video and content! There's a helpful setting in the time parameter on the Delay effect.. if you keep turning the knob further to the left, you'll see times relative to the existing tempo (1/4 note, dotted 1/8, 1 measure, etc.) It's a weird, buried setting but probably closer to what most users are thinking of this setting.

A couple of questions With the effects like for instance the harmonizer for vocals and the ability to turn my guitar into a bass on the fly for a loop. Can this be done easily and quickly can while playing? Example the vocals on during chorus and off singing and or talking? Oh.. maybe you could do a video on the inputs and out puts and the options available with separation and effects. Thanks Man great Video!

I do prefer the Reverb from the original RC-505. It feels (and sounds) more digitized, compared to the more 'natural' sound Reverb - MK1). Also, would one agree the reverb on the MK2 is delayed ever so slightly, without the pre-delay added into the mix? (pun-unintended)

I mean I can see them via (too) complicated operation of diving into FX menus etc but (as in mk1) there seem to be no shortcut to seeing whats actually on there. Also, would any bank be in parallel with another bank, like A bank be in parallel with B, B in parallel with C, and C might be in parallel with D? Is FX A-A in parallel with B-A, and B-A would be in a parallel with C-A or D-A. The real question is: "are any FX or banks in series with any other FX (whether Input FX or Track FX)"?

Hey there! You do need a listening device, ie: headphone or speakers, which you plug to one of the outputs (usually "phone" or "main"). They all connect with a 1/4 inch connector so if your speaker doesn't have this kind of port you might want to consider looking for 1/4 inch adapters. Having the outputs connected to something, if there's no sound yet you should look wether your mic is a condenser mic or not, if it is you need to turn on the phantom power within the RC's settings. Hope that helps :)

I recommend visiting a local electronics shop (the "resistors, potentiometers and cables" kind) and ask for a custom-built 5V to 9V converter (remember to check polarity or you might damage the RC; bringing your machine and the manual is a good idea). You can also look for USB boost or "step-up" converters that can handle 2A on ebay. Haven't tested those, so idk about their quality

Your explanation to the Lo-Fi was a little strange. It is not on the RC-505 or related to the genre (I don't even know if that is a genre. Everything is a genre these days. Is it the same as lo-fi hiphop?). Lo-Fi just mean Low Fidelty (low quality) as opposed to Hi-Fi meaning High Fidelty (high quality). In this case it is just a couple of things to degrade you (I guess maybe only sample rate and bitrate reduction. Distortion?). In general it can be anything that degrades and makes your sound lo-fi (vinyl hiss, tape emulation, tape hiss, tape saturator, distortion, samplerate reduction, bitrate reduction, etc.). It has all been around many centuries before the genre. 🙂 Good video. 👍🙂
