Thanks Rebecca for an excellent lesson. Now most on-line KZread teachers encourage their E.S L. students to parrot the pronunciations used by native speakers on the assumption that just the fact of being born and raised in the United States instantly qualifies you as an authority on the grammar, articulation an pronunciation of American English. However, I've noticed that many young speakers today pronounce the word "culture" as if it were spelled "Coalture". I hear many native speakers pronouncing the word "along" as "Aylong" , the word "another "as Äynother. Please tell us how the word "mango" should be pronounced . I hear the word pronounced as if were spelled "maingo". although the dictionaries insist that It should be pronounced as we normally pronounce the word "man "followed the word "go". Furthermore, should the words 'accept" and 'except" be pronounced as if they were homophones?. I know that English phonemes are prone to what phoneticians call allophonic variation. I would like to hear your take on these variations.

While I agree for the most part, it is the preponderance of profit-driven ESL schools and platforms that drive this marginal English proficiency in East Asia, particularly JP. I'm Filipino-American and have been demoted to a non-native speaker in this regard despite growing up in in the US and the Japanese are especially sanctimonious in their racist attitudes toward what native or proper English should sound like. In the PH, the promotion of English speakers as teachers and tutors with no proven proficiency in this industry contributes to this, even if there is a high relative literacy rate. I'd term it a digital commodification of for-profit language learning services in which we sell our online and marketable personas and are willingly exploited in a irregulated industry.
