    great video guys, I'm just a recreational open circuit open water diver looking for a new computer. I'm on the fence between the perdix AI and the peregrine, the peregine coveres everything I need (I don't intend to go into tec diving) but I would really like to have air integration on the peregrine. thoughts on shooting for the peredix AI (which I see as overkill for my use) or wait for a peregrin AI?

    I know I’m 5 months late for this reply, but here goes. My dive shop owner/mentor told me to buy a Perdix AI, but as rec diver I thought it was overkill and bought the Peregrine. Then before going on a live aboard trip I replaced my psg with a AL 550C as backup to the Peregrine. 5 months later I ended up buying the Perdix AI so I could have all the info on my wrist. I would have been money ahead to have just listened to my mentor to begin with. To date Shearwater has not released an AI version of the Peregine…

    I'm a little confused. You say to not mess with the blue o rings then say they will give you replacement for free. That would still require you to replace them. I don't remove my battery until it is nearly dead. I figure the more I remove the cap the more likely it is I will flood it. I recently flooded my transmitter, when I changed the battery. But it is rare I'm not diving at least every 4 weeks. I don't think that 80/20 rule applies to the teric. Batteries have improved a lot. I charge my teric before every dive trip. If I'm diving everyday on a vacation then I charge it everyday. I have both a teric and a perdix.

    Good advice. Especially about AA batteries. The Lithium AA may be a premium price but really; why not put the best in your computer when you consider alkaline batteries leak when you least expect it. Thanks man.

    Don't install Duracell batts in any item you don't want to ruin. They are notorious for leaking. Rechargeables like Eneloop batts don't leak.

    Question - other than safety, why do they need annual maintenance? Saw online ~$150 per service. On a $550-800 recreational computer, $150 per year seems like a high cost vs. For a commercial or highly used piece of equipment is it just a safeguard or do they need recalibration often? Second which Shearwater needs the least amount of maintenance. Am trying to pick between Tern TX and Perdix 2 (more than I think I need, but interesting form factor). Thanks!

    It is not required to send them in for maintenance every year, we do that because we want to be proactive but people have used these heavily for years without doing any maintenance on them and had no issues.

    Can you explain the 80/20, especially the 20 part?

  • @DIVETALK

    @DIVETALK

    Жыл бұрын

    Shearwater recommends that in order to extend the battery's life, you shouldn't let it get below 20% before you charge it, and to not charge it if it's over 80%. It's not that if you let your computer run out of battery consistently means it's going to break immediately, but it does wear out the batter faster, according to Shearwater which I assume bases their recommendation on research they did.
