Petrel Tissues Demo

Ғылым және технология

Demo of a decompression dive showing the new tissues bar graphs on the Shearwater Research Petrel technical dive computer.
The Petrel is a trimix dive computer, capable of open-circuit (OC) and closed-circuit (CC) decompression diving. Of course, the Petrel is also capable of air and nitrox dives as well.
The tissue bar graphs show the combined inert gas loading of nitrogen and helium. They have been scaled for quick visualization of the tissue loading in terms of decompression risk.
This demo shows an open-circuit nitrox decompression dive.

Hi Cathal, you can see the tissues bars at any time by pressing the right button a few times to scroll through the various info displays. The purpose of the display is to inform and educate. For instance, on the surface you can see how much residual inert gas remains after a surface interval. At the end of your bottom time, it might be interesting to see which compartments have saturated. The info isn't incredibly useful, but it does give some insight into how the deco models work.

excellent video. Certainly highlights one of many useful teaching features on the Petrel for those of us who instruct. And of course, yet another reason to invest in a Shearwater.

Any chance of a firmware update where you could change your inspired surface gas? So, if you're on the surface and breathing 100% O2 during your surface interval, it'll account for that?

At last I understand GF thanks, I was just wondering if the inert gas would be comming out quicker at 10ft as opposed to 20ft as there is a bigger pressure difference or is off gassing linear? I would of thought the bigger the pressure difference the faster the gas comes out of a solution. Or is the model based on it being linear?

Thanks for video, I found it very helpful. In the end of film I understood that computer will be useful also to observe off gassing in the surface and I’m interested - can it help me to monitor when can I go trekking on mountains after dive? Is it taking into consideration decreasing pleasure on the surface when I’m going up?

Do we have transmittable ccr o2/co2 sensor readings yet? Do we have CCR loop gas analysis checking mid-flight yet? Do we have CCR, full-purge and no-purge, loop flush with gas-switching on the fly yet?

Hi Bruce Can you outline how this tissue data is utilised by the diver i.e. are we supposed to have this tissue screen on display throughout the dive, or is it for reviewing the dive afterwards and if so how do we access it?? Rgds Cathal ( new petrel owner)
