Fear of Flying…not for the usual reason of Marge not having a fear of flying before that episode, but for the scene where she had a frosted wedding cake in the oven. Two things: 1) A stacked wedding cake can barely fit through a doorway, so it certainly wouldn’t fit inside an oven. 2) You literally can’t frost a cake _before_ putting it into an oven; because the cake starts out in liquid form.

Consistency is irrelevant outside of a single season for non-serial television shows. The Simpsons is an "episodic" television show. Episodic means that you can view the episodes out of order and it should still make sense because it resets to a season baseline each episode and has no overarching plot. Episodic shows are ideal for syndication, which is why they were so common until fairly recently. A "serial" television show is one which does have an overarching plot and watching the episodes out of order can be problematic as the plot does not reset to a baseline each episode. For serial think Star Trek, for episodic think Firefly. You can watch any episode of Star Trek (TOS or TNG) from any given season and you should be able to understand it and not require prior knowledge of the previous episodes to get the full enjoyment of the episode. Firefly on the other hand famously suffered because Fox aired the second episode of Firefly before the first one, making the plot very had to grasp. So basically, you should never expect details such as the ones in this video to be preserved from season to season. Only things in the show "bible" are kept to, and anything else is reset at the end of an episode, or at least the end of a season.

The Original Series of Star Trek was very episodic, probably because they didn't think Trek would end up becoming what it is today. Many of the same continuity flubs WatchMojo nitpicks here for The Simpsons are issues there (crew backstories, ship layout, etc) and very few - if any - episodes reference specific information/events/revelations from previous episodes. Later Trek shows though (TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT) were somewhat of a mixed bag as the universe was growing and as such they had episodic elements for sure, but also threw in more serial elements to grow and bind their universe together. TNG was mostly episodic and you could drop into the show more or less anywhere and be fine, though a few episodes did reference back to previous episodes quite specifically. DS9 still had some episodic episodes but was definitely mostly serial (especially towards the last few seasons with the Dominion War) and dropping into a random spot pretty much any time from Season 3 or later is a risky dice roll whether you're going to get a stand-alone episode or if you're going to get one with an overarching plot from previous episodes or even TNG/TOS elements. Voyager took a step back towards episodic. You definitely had character growth and evolution but overall the only real plot thread was "getting back to Earth" and only really a handful of episodes specifically tied back to previous episodes/series enough that you'd be at risk of getting lost if you didn't watch those first. ENT was sort of half and half. You probably SHOULD watch it in order, but don't really HAVE to most of the time. There's definitely a lot of referencing back and whatnot but they usually aren't "major" references; though the finale of Season 2, the entirety of Season 3, and the premiere of Season 4 are ALL essentially one long episode with the Xindi and you definitely should watch THAT block in order. Season 4 also decided to do "contained arcs" where you'd have 2-4 episode "blocks" that were all connected, so Season 4 is a true mixture. You get serial "blocks" but those blocks are essentially also self contained and dont necessarily impact the next block of episodes all that much. As far as Discovery, I don't know. Haven't watched it yet and from the clips I've seen, it's not a high priority to do so.

One of my biggest is that Marge clearly was sleek-haired in the very first episodes when she was a teenager, but as seen in the fear of flying she always seemed to have that typical Marge-fro, so does her later introduced mother. Number 9 can be explained though in "trash of the titans" when the entire town of Springfield had to be relocated (what's happening to Kiruna, Sweden in reality)

One major plothole for my always has been the one about Skinner. Acording to certain episode; the principal Skinner we all know is reallya guy called Tanzarian who is posing as the real Skinner who was MIA in Vietnam... BUT in a ton of episodes both before and after that one; we can clearly see flashbacks of Skinner about his past as sargeant in the war or a as a young teacher... and in all of them Skinner was always Skinner and not a poser! Yes, OK; in the same episode they swear not to speak again about "the truth"; but for some of those flashbacks to have any sense, the only explanaton is that all that Tanzanian thing not being canon at all.

Sometimes I feel that the new writers were never really hardcore fans of The Simpsons as a whole. It seems as though they watched and were entertained by certain episodes or seasons, but sometimes it feels like they never sat down and watched every episode in order to get a grasp of what has already been done or said in the past. For example the Sadgasm episode seems to contradict every other previous Homer/Marge origin story. Pre-Bart and Pre-Lisa storylines, be it in character, storyline, or even setting.

The computer plot hole is not a plot hole, in the same episode Homer says "they have the Internet in computers now" so it's pretty obvious Homer didn't know what he was selling or doing for that matter. Especially with his interaction with comic book guy, in which he replies "do I get paid now?" How he had got his ad online is beyond my comprehension.

One that I always remembered from when I was young was that when homer gets the auto-dialer the first number dialed ends with 0001 and it calls mister Burns. But in the episode where homer takes over for Smithers and Mr Burns learns to fend for himself and answers the phone and tells the person they have the wrong number (something along the lines of “this is five, two, FOUR, six”). Always bugged me as a kid
