*Notes* doesn't mention that the Abagail of the film made off with the savings of her uncle's family- neither does it mention that the first accused witch, the slave Tituba wasn't killed - why was that, I never understood that part of the history?

I think WM missed one of the major themes. That the girls in Puritan colonial America had very little autonomy or power. Which is probably why they found the interactions with Tituba so thrilling. Then when they find that the whole town is paying attention to what they say, and, for the first time in their lives, their words and actions are having an influence on their community and the people around them, of course that power is going to go to their heads, and that's one of the reasons why the girls carry on with it for so long.

Your channel's tagline is ironic and not in a good way: "Why read when you can watch?" Here's why: so that at the very least, you get the details of the story correct. Out of 10 points, you got half of them wrong; that would be a FAIL in any high school English class: The Crucible is not told by an "all-knowing third-person narrator." You do know that it's a play, right? That is acted upon a stage in a theater, by performers who have memorized the lines to recreate the characters who act the story. "All-knowing third-person narrator?". Did you bother to read it; have you ever seen a live performance of it in a theater? John Proctor does not agree to be hanged in order to protect his wife. He chooses to be hanged rather than have his reputation ruined forever: "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul, leave me my name!" Proctor does not go to "any length" to expose Abigail. He hesitates and hesitates, argues with Elizabeth about it, browbeats Mary Warren to expose her so he won't have to do it; watches Giles Corey and Frances Nurse put their reputations on the line first; and even then will not admit his adultery until he's finally forced to say it as his only remaining chance. He avoids it until all his other options have run out. Thirteen women falsely arrested weren't enough, and then later, 39 arrests aren't enough to spur him to do anything more than "think about it." It was his delay and unwillingness to expose Abigail that allowed the witch-hunt to get out of hand so quickly. Elizabeth does not help him keep his goodness by "allowing" him to be hanged. She says very plainly it is not her decision to make, it is his soul, not hers, but she wants him alive. But she hardly "allows" him to be hanged. She knows it is his conscience, not hers, that is at stake; she states what she would prefer and then she is devastated by his final decision. The play's title might be a metaphor for an alchemist's kettle, but the word "crucible" itself refers to a severe and punishing test of a person's morals. Abigail did not start the cries of witchcraft as a plot to marry John Proctor. She started it as a way to get herself and her cousin and her friends out of trouble, initially accusing Tituba as the cause of all the trouble. It's not until sometime later that she realizes she can turn the trials to her benefit. But her initial motivation was to cover her ass. Seriously. Now I understand why this channel's tagline is what it is: Why read when you can just watch it? Ten points and half of them are wrong; in any high school English class that would be a FAIL. This channel is contributing to the dumbing-down of our youth. Why watch it, when you can have someone else tell you what it's about? Shameful. .

I love the book and movie so much. It's weird because I just watched it the other day with my mom and she got so emotional during the scene where the judges try to force John Proctor to give a written confession and John Proctor says "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! ...... I have given you my soul; leave me my name!" Ugh, that scene always gets me. Daniel Day-Lewis is the best.
