I played mage in 3 p servers the last couple of years. All I can say is, it is amazing, one of the most fun classes for me bay far. The only downsides are: mana isssues in fire in low gear, early T11. Once you reach ~30-35% crit it’s gonna get better and in Firelands, after 375ish ilvl you won’t look at your mana bar anymore. Frost is sometimes useful on fights, we used frost on Shannox for example for kite-ing the small dogs, and on Magmaw hc to kite the worms. Maybe this is not the traditional tax but it was succesful. Arcane can be fun, sometimtes in 5-mans it is very fun. I’m looking forward to the min-maxing because there is huge potential. Spreading a well setup combustion and seeing the huge jump in the damage meter is the most amazing feeling I can imagine in wow. Hope to get the Lego this time❤️

Cata fire mage is so much fun. I am even leveling a mage to be ready for Cata.

Back in the day I used Mage nuggets. You could set thresholds and they would light up green if above those thresholds so you knew when to bust.

my goblin mage back in the day was SO fun in pve and pvp. All mages rejoice. I'll be going a different path this time as I've done mage but it is in fact such a rewarding rotation/class in cata.

I'm most excited to try out a worgen rogue in Cata, since I play druids, priests and such almost every time and wanted a change of pace. I'm also heavily considering instead doing a dwarf shaman or something as my first character specifically for the archaeology racial + alchemy farm, for the big money mount craft. Shaman seems good since it's new-ish, a bit versatile, and has a great instant mobility in Ghost Wolf, so digs can go fast.

Loved the vid, helpful! I have been playing a frost mage and then Cata dumped us on our head .. at lvl 43 they took all AOE frost effects away until lvl 55 or 58 ,.. squishy before cata , but now truly at deaths door .. I almost went to fire but I’m stubborn and hanging in there but it’s pretty depressing

If we get Cata any later than may 30th ill loose my mind

Yeah I feel like wotlk gameplay was better remembered than it was in wotlk classic and the inverse will be true with cata (cata gameplay will be remembered worse than it will be experienced in cata classic). Also TBC feels like a successor to vanilla and wotlk (especially ulduar onward) feels like a much more significant change to the game than TBC, and cata is less of a change than TBC -> wotlk.

As someone who never played Classic back in the day and is only playing these Classic releases to experience what I miss I'm honestly suprised by how much Cataclysm adds stuff that I remember. I think its because when I was watching WoW videos as a kid it was during Cata and MoP era so this is more familiar to what I know WoW to be.

Thank you for covering cata, a big part of the community will end up regretting their apprehension towards this xpac once the retail crowd gets hooked.

@@csquared4538 it's insanely rewarding to press it and in cata where you can spread it uncapped on aoe you literally can do like 10x the damage of any other class on big pulls. It's super fun. If you really want to parse it could be annoying tho due to RNG but honestly who cares about that.

I’m torn between elemental shaman and mages caster wise and between dk and warrior melee wise 😢 decisions decisions any recommendations ?

As much talk there is of Fire Mage amongst the community, I really hope people aren't going to be put down by the idea of playing Arcane Mage. I raided in the competitive progression scene back in Cataclysm, and Arcane was a monster. This is exacerbated massively by the trinket called "Shard of Woe" which drops off of Sinestra in Heroic Bastion of Twilight. This trinket reduces the base cost of your abilities by 205, and it should be apparent why this is absurd for Arcane Mages. Their burn phase can be sustained for a significantly longer period of time before running out of mana with this trinket, and because of this it became a NECESSITY to bring Arcane Mages for any fight that had a tight DPS check window. There was even an absurd amount of drama surrounding Heroic Spine of Deathwing progression, as top guilds were poaching Arcane Mages in order to beat the DPS check required to beat the encounter.

Na ill be giving mages unleashed elements elemental blast to the dome on my enhancement shaman. this is that expansion🤣

Sigh, fire being the big dominating Pve spec and frost the big PvP spec and Arcane reduced to a Utility spec (and in all cases being forced to choose one of these rather than being able to build hybrids like the classic trees) are among many of the things I hated about Cat. I mained Arcane in Cat and getting into groups, even Guild Groups, for Dungeons and raids was brutal as they all considered Arcane an inferior spec.

to be honest, i perfer the look come Combustion Helper over WeakAura. It just looks better and just seems better

cata is S tier if you look at these class changes. So much better than tbc or wotlk or sod

Combustion gives 50% fire crit damage in wotlk so it wasn't as bad as he makes it out to be. And that's always how max ranked Hot streak worked.... 100% chance to proc. Just plain wrong information. The only change was adding pyroblast to the hotstreak proc as it isnt included in hot streak even if it crits in wotlk.

I used a weak aura to track combustion in original cata and mage wasn't even my main. You guys were just bad back then 😂

Yep, you should play a mage, but it has literally NOTHING to do with the changes to the class. It has everything to do with encounter mechanics that you can just cheese as a mage while still doing DPS.

To answer the thumbnail, NO! xD The argument is, the hype around Wrath was crazy and we all wanted to play it because of nostalgia and because the combat is just better than what we've had before, BUT wrath died super quick after Ulduar and only small niche communities kept playing and speedrunners. Cata isn't hyped at all and only a handful of streamers are playing it, and since this game is heavily influenced by streamers I'm 100% confident that Cata will die even quicker than Wrath classic. TLDR : No Hype : Less Players Wow Token : Less Players GDKP : Less Players Cataclysm will be a niche game with a handful of speedrunners and Archeology enjoyers but definitely not a successful MMO like Vanilla or SoD maybe even TBC. I'm confident that Blizzard is doing it just because it doesn't make sense to skip Cataclysm straight to MoP because MoP is much more loved by people than Cataclysm

Wrath died cuz the expansion itself is bad, P1 is absolutely Trash and theres no world content to do so its basically a very tedious and annoying 70 to 80 leveling just to afk in dalaran until raids are off cd, Cata wont die in P1 but will prolly die in P2 if they release Firelands quick then i'll say game will die mid Firelands

I liked Cata dungeon/raiding back in the day besides the Dungeon nerfs & Dragonsoul raid let down. I am very concerned about it this time. I have a feeling it will be treated as the unwanted stepson and 99% of Blizzard's time/effort will go towards SoM & Retail. Lets be real: the future Classic+ and Retail are the big $$$ makers for them going forward. The way they handled the ICC ending left a sour taste in my mouth. The pacing was way off for Ulduar and ICC. They simply take too long (they drag it out/forget about it). The GDKP meta and reliance on addons is also a big turn off for me now. It grew, and grew, and grew. Here we are. My ICC progression guild spent more time getting Weak Auras explained and to work in weeks 1-2 than the actual fight mechanics. That was cringe. I might just have to retire my totems & shadow spells for this one and call it complete. Goodluck to you who play the Cataclysm!
