In this video, we shall be presenting to you the top 10 luxurious brands in Africa.The African continent comprised of 54 independent states where wealth creation is not uniform from one country to the next, and in some countries with larger economies, only a small portion of the population accounts for the major proportion of the overall wealth. But still, this population as well as the middle class are opening their hearts and wallets to a new world of products known as the luxury brands. These are brands whose products are meant for the elite class with heavy cash to throw around. There are signs which bode well for the future of luxury in Africa. Growing urbanization, the continent’s changing demographic profile with a sharp rise in the youthful population which is embracing technological advances are some of these signs.Also an expanding middle class in addition to an appetite for luxury goods accompanied by a growing desire for status and the ability to acquire status through the purchase of luxury goods, as well as the recent successful opening of luxury stores in certain countries, are solid triggers for a sustainable growth of the luxury market in Africa. From luxury cars, luxury clothing & accessories, luxury watches, private jets, yachts and luxury hotels and lodges, the African continent is now active in the luxury shopping scene which has also led to the expansion of existing luxury brands as well as the emergence of new ones. The largest luxury markets by revenue are South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Morocco and Egypt and some of the factors affecting luxury purchases tend to vary from country to country but there are a few basic considerations which are prevalent in most countries. Status reigns supreme, mirroring what is observed in American and European markets and general brand recognition all play a role in purchase decisions.

If we were asked to name luxury brands, we are likely to tilt towards the Gucci, Channels, versace, Lois Vuitton and other foreign luxury brands, but here are the top 10 luxury African brands you should be spending that elite money on too. In no particular order offcourse
10. ZAAF, Ethiopia
ZAAF is a line of premium luxury leather goods and accessories handcrafted by artisans in Ethiopia. Founded by Abai Schulze, who also serves as Creative Director, the names mean tree in Amharic. This idea tethers to how ZAAF is rooted in its rich Ethiopian heritage while utilizing the resources and skillsets of its people as it “branches wide to embrace the whole world.”The SS’16 collection is broad range of men’s and women’s accessories: handbags, weekend and travel pieces, scarves and even leather jackets. Inspired by the diversity of peoples in the capital city, it embraces the cultural and artistic mashup of Addis Ababa.ZAAF’s Poinciana Classic Weekender is crafted from black full-grain leather and masterfully woven Ethiopian textile.Chic and petite, the Avalo weekender bag in orange pull-up leather is accented with Zaaf’s signature Ethiopian tilet design and navy-blue sheepskin highlights.
9. Minku, Nigeria
Next on the list is another brand dealing in accessories, Minku. Already being hailed as the Hermès of Africa, Minku was started by Nigerian fashion designer and entrepreneur Kunmi Otitoju. After earning her degrees from Howard University and Virginia Technology, Kunmi had a brief residence at Goldman Sachs before heading to do what she really loves to do, creating accessories for the affluent. She launched Minku and produce luxury bags, wallets and accessories for men and women using the best of Spanish leathers, and blending these designs with ‘Aso-oke’ fabric, the same hand-loomed cloth woven by the Yoruba people of Nigeria which is used by Kenneth Ize to create its designs. The result are worldly cosmopolitan goods that are both contemporary and timeless.All Minku products are hand made at a studio in Barcelona, Spain and sold at high end shops in Nigeria and some countries abroad.
8. Taibo Bacar - Mozambique
Born in Mozambique, Taibo Bacar is the son of a seamstress who grew up around fabrics and design sketches. He originally studied Information Technology but eventually found his way to the Instituto Marangoni in Spain for courses in pattern cutting and design. At that time there was no fashion industry training available in Mozambique.By 2007, he launched TAIBO BACAR and now the brand has expanded into its ready to wear TB collection and its haute couture TAIBO BACAR line.     I would suggest they sell their fashion products on MaaJoba.com, Africa 's giant ecommerce marketplace for African suppliers to sell across the continent, ship worldwide, drive sales n sustain the African free trade agreement.
