How a Nigerian Built a Multimillion Dollar Clothing Company in Nigeria!

How a Nigerian Built a Million Dollar Clothing Business in Nigeria is another episode of my promoting Africa series where I feature black entrepreneurs all across Africa who have built successful businesses and they tell us how they did it.
Today's episode is Mrs Adenike Ogunlesi who is a Nigerian entrepreneur who built a Multimillion Dollar Fashion and Manufacturing Business called Ruff & Tumble from the boot of her car in Nigeria. She tells us about how she was able to build her business in Lagos state Nigeria and some of the challenges she has faced on her entrepreneurial journey.

Fun fact: I was the first customer of Ruff and Tumble. True story, On my 10th birthday I needed a beautiful dress we drove round GRA Lagos and found a small store. At the point they were still offloading and removing clothes from the nylon bag. I saw this orange beautiful dress and purchased it. The lady at the store said "do you know you are the first customer since we opened this store". What did I know then 😂 a kid wanted to celebrate her birthday in peace. I'm amazed how far the empire has gone. This shows that consistency is the KEY👌🏽...

To take a loan in Nigeria at over 20% interest for a business and the business survive in spite of all the pitfalls of running a business in a place like Nigeria reflects the level of discipline and acumen that goes into that business. Tayo, this LADY represents the best of Africa. We like to scoff at the older generations but that generation is the one that demands perfection in business, speak well, value education and raise productive, purposeful offspring. If we had more of her in Africa, the sky would not be the limit. Sadly too many remain outside after they finish school. Thank goodness her mother told her to come back home all those years ago. I was smiling throughout.

There was the plan by Tesla that had been posted which was said could provide electricity for countries for each household, for no cost or very, little cost. I don’t know how true that is, but, since Tesla was such a genius, scientifically, it might do, well, to do some research on, it. With the abundance of genius minds within African countries, funding should be provided to challenge students’ minds through projects addressing such issues that will improve people’s’ lives in African countries in need.

This business and story inspired me. I recently left my well paying Job to start a men's underwear Business. It's been such a sweet and beautiful experience and listening to her story, I know that we will get there. Truly Nigeria is a gold mine. So many opportunities exist here. I am encouraging young people to venture into Entrepreneurship. It is the way to go...

Wow, I can't believe Ruff "N" Tumble is still here. I was privileged to be at a background of an interview she did in early 2000s which was an inspiration to my final project when I went to school for Apparel Design. She's a beautiful and wonderful woman. Oh Wow, she finally built her sewing factory. Very Impressive. I have learned so much from her. Thanks Tayo this video really covered everything. Great work.

I remember about 10 years ago, when I first learnt about ruff n tumble. It was a video I came across on KZread where Mrs Ogunlesi was being interviewed. She said something that has stayed with me ever since and it was something along the lines of "Once you open your doors for business, then make sure you deliver." That statement left a profound impression on me and has shaped my view on customer service as well.
