    Who is telling people that it’s not OK to need sleep? Hello? Welcome to being a human. We all need sleep, food, water, air... there is nothing wrong with needing those things. That isn’t even an option. Your choice is “consume food/water/air/sleep” or “die”. There is no third option. Ok, you can substitute food/water for an IV but it is still food and water, it’s just administered in the blood not the mouth.

    @@Mathignihilcehk yeah the speed running community badly needs to address these issues with long format runs, make sleep not count against the score to ensure mental and physical health

  • @Mathignihilcehk

    @Mathignihilcehk

    My thought process is the best way to account for sleep is to do partner runs. You and a partner do the run together. One person sleeps 8 hours, gets food and exercise maybe, and then watches the run for a couple hours to get caught up, and then swap. Rinse repeat. Yeah, you need to rely on someone else, but that's part of being human. We can't reproduce without a partner, and most of the achievements mankind is known for are the result of cooperative efforts. Historically, there was more activity solo, but now, there's almost nothing significant you can do alone. Noble prizes are not won by spectacular individuals anymore, but teams of people working together. And consider many who do speed-runs are making a significant income from their viewers supporting them. That doesn't count as cheating, even though it is technically a cooperative effort, right? It's a truly backwards society that would consider sleep an inconvenience that can be ignored and teamwork unacceptable behavior.

    (This is referring to the number 1 on this list) If anybody was wondering most of that time was actually spent waiting for an item to "evolve" so he took a 14 day break in between with the game running in the background only checking occasionally for the other items that evolve in a shorter amount of time. Or at least this is my understanding from reading his faq on this run.

    That last one had an advantage with the fact that a lot of that time is probably just standing around doing nothing. It sounds like the guy probably was able to sleep for the night several times while doing that speed run. I'm sure he scheduled his sleeping and eating around when good times to not play the game would be, but still. Not trying to take away his run or anything, just saying that the game had an advantage for this list. This list was more about the game than the runner anyway. Also, someone should try running the entire zelda timeline, and yes I know it splits into 3. I'm not really sure how to make a speedrun work with that, but I'm sure there is a way.

Completing the catalog requires multiple real world days. Did he save, quit, adjust the clock, and then log back in? I really don't see any other way he could have done that. Also, how would that even be fun. I get the fun of speedrunning, but for animal crossing? Anyway, yeah, I really don't get that one.

FFXII Order of Ambrosia could also potentially have a sleep period because you could potentially use Neglemur auto-leveling and go to bed. Although, I have a feeling all grinding is done somewhere in the Henne Mines, either with the Flans or the Bats.

    Everything up to the Animal Crossing run was done without sleep- including the 66 hour GTA trilogy time (SRL's current longest race completion time). I believe the 51 hour Animal Crossing was done without sleep (gaining all its time over the previous record by cutting out 2 full nights of rest) while the 50 hour followup took a nap in the middle. Personally, my longest run is of an unofficial category- took me a little over 39 hours (current PB is 29:25:xx- I actually have it highlighted on twitch, too) the first time, no sleep. It's tough, but skipping one night isn't too difficult for me. The hardest part is finding an unbroken block of time to fit the run in! Anyway, this is a pretty good video! As someone who's been around since before JRPG RTA runs were really considered, I've seen most of these long runs unfold over time, each one pushing the boundaries of sanity further and further. My aforementioned 39 hour time was the longest SRL race completion time when I did it, so I can safely say I helped push that. Digimon World 3 100% has an honorable mention was well worth including. The first FM 100% race had SRL institute a "no extended breaks" rule to avoid races where avoiding sleep was a viable strategy.

    2 years late with this reply, but making it anyway in case someone sees this comment and is too lazy to look it up. The ban in question was actually a 24-hour suspension issued to a runner named Baffan due to him leaving the stream running with the game idle while he slept, which was necessary due to one part of the game requiring ~2 weeks to pass IRL while the game is running in order to complete it. Twitch decided that leaving the game idle for multiple hours counted as "non-gaming content," which was a violation of the Twitch ToS at the time.

    @@jordanbrown3660 Twitch ToS is really strange. Though they advertise as a game streaming site, they have both "IRL" and "Just Chatting." Apparently, though, being required to leave a game on for a speedrun is "against the rules." Also, your reply was actually helpful! Thanks.

    lol I was randomly listening to music on youtube and somehow stumble on this. kinda bummed I quit out like a bitch both runs, but god damn was it making me literally insane playing that much digimon. also fun fact, I also attempted yugioh fm 100% back in 2013 when the 174 hour time was set. I quit at 200 hours after farming for a single card for 70ish hours. hopefully one day me and baffan can race batten kaitos 100%, that'd be a pretty crazy race.

EDIT: Since this was addressed a few times I didn't plan for the video to be exactly 10 minutes long, and I'm not sure where the stigma that I get extra money from it comes from. There aren't any ads in the middle of the video. I don't have unskippable ads turned on. My videos are always as long as it takes to make them, if you check the rest of my uploads you'd notice that. My videos are however long it takes me to explain everything.

    Amazing videos, bro! Now that you are focussing on making more videos, you should get yourself a nice intro and outro. It really would enhance your vids. The emo-like songs are a little bit inappropriate in my opinion, no offence :) Keep the good work going!

  • @EZScape

    I might make an intro for the new series I'm starting, but I just don't feel like intros are really that necessary. The only reason I would have an intro would to show a little highlight of what there's to look forward to in the video. I really like Spyro and the skyboxes so I'm probably going to end up keeping them, at least for these videos. I like to try to support my favorite artists by sharing their music through my outros, not everybody is going to like them, but a lot of people do. I personally think they're pretty chill just to end the video with.
