In the lore, the Spine of Desthwing was granted a power like no other by the Void Lords. It holds the power of generating that slight pause in raiding where your gathering but you don’t know if you need a pug. Eventually you que up and you swear your asking for just a dps, yet you get tanks and heals lined up. And then they need a summons because “summons plz” even if it’s just a hearth and portal away, and you don’t have a lock so you run back to the entrance. That kind of power.

I'm trying to solo the spine now. I'm in misery. I can't keep the elementals on the back if I'm sticking to the wounds, but if I try to kite the elementals to stack the blood I get thrown off...... I hate this so much

Going purely by my solo transmog run shenanigans, the longest fights are: 5. Imperator Mar'gok. Shut up and die already! 4. Kel'Thuzad. 3 minutes of waiting to one-shot the guy. 3. Gothik the Harvester. 4 minutes of waiting to one-shot the guy. 2. The Blast Furnace. Kill me. Just...just kill me. 1. Spine of Deathwing. FINE I'LL JUST KILL MYSELF.

@@Zelkiiro Ooof, Blast Furnace. I only did that on Heroic (I quit the game before we progressed that far on Mythic but it was on the horizon and I knew my guild wasn't good enough to do it) and it felt like it was half an hour long.

One important thing to mention about the Sha is that once you got to the hard mode phase and after you wipe, you get a raid-wide, permanent 15% cast/attack speed buff. It's almost as if Blizzard knew the fight was too long and tossed raiders a bone once they proved they could get to the HM phase. I remember intentionally wiping the first pull of the night just to get the buff.

Most LFR fights are super long only because you are more fighting against your raid members actually doing their job and not AFKing than you are the boss itself.

I think the 'world first kill' should be the main source of 'longest raid fight' honestly. 10minute fight is *very* different from 16 minutes, as implied by Magtheridon. Maybe take the average of the world first and a few others from that time period if possible, or just simply the world first kill if not. At least on fights where the discrepancy was that massive

Yes the method is flawed, but besides Magtheridon I think it did an ok enough job at putting things in a good enough metric. Honestly I should have just thrown Magtheridon out, but there wasn't anything else to really make the list as there's just a ton of ties for the 15 minute raid length mark. So I decided to leave it in to explain how I did the math and why its a flawed method, but one I stuck with anyway since its better than just going on 1 number as explained in the Illidan/4-horsemen section.

I think before you had raid difficulty tiers Blizzard put really generous enrage timers on bosses so that even what we'd consider "heroic-only" guilds now could actually beat them eventually. They also probably wanted to keep the bosses possible even if a group was missing a dps or two.

can we just appreciate for a moment how terrifying the Sha of Fear is? just imagine at any moment you just see this thing walking up to you in the same way it's walking towards the player here: 13:44

@@patrickmccurry1563 In fact he didn't say that lfr is not raiding, he said not Real raidingg. and actually in my opinion real raiding is 25 heroic mode, or mythic whatever, and that's the mode that they design and made boss fights, then tune it down to make it easier and easier and facepalm.

I remember one time when the guild I was in at the time had a really long fight with the Faction Champs in Trial of the Grand Crusader during WOTLK. It was at least 30 minutes but we eventually got them down

This video is really well thought out.

Hardest part of Magtheridon fight was undoubtably the first part, which is the part when you battle the ads. If you had good cube clickers the rest of the fight was a piece of cake.

Song fights 'feel' longer because they are so unrelentingly hectic. Mythic Blackfuse felt like a marathon because you were constantly moving, constantly dealing with mechanics, constantly switching target, constantly running on the belt... And yeah, Spine of Deathwing. Felt so long despite being relatively short because its just stressful.

world first rag in vanilla is not the same as the classic rag. abilliteis are from later patch, gear stats on green or blue gear that wasn't in vanilla from the start is in classic. and i wouldn be surprised if molten core was't nerfed before patch 1.12 anyways.

It didn't need nerfed to be loleasy, every single class got significant buffs in their class revamps and the threat generation change was huge. Fights lasted longer in original difficulty MC & BWL in particular because higher dps numbers (which could be hit) meant dead dps and bosses running all over the place because the tanks couldn't generate enough threat.

That brought back some memories. I am happy to see Illidan on that list, lol, but shocked KJ (SWP) wasn't.

Kiljaden was actually a rather short fight because there was some tight psudo enrages plus u get a significant haste buff from the dragon which inflated the dps on Kj

I once did an LFR Garrosh that hit the enrage timer as a super geared DK tank that basically didn't need to be healed to help a friend. It... it was painful.

Heigan (?) the Unclean (Safety Dance) for Nax during WOTLK. 1st wave of the 1st safety dance killed everyone in my guild except me (resto druid) and my buddy (tank DK). Finish first safety dance, I brez the top DPS for the run, and he gets hit by first wave of 2nd safety dance... Go own to finish the fight with my DK tank and me throwing out moonfire/wrath with a clock timer of around 48 minutes -.-.

Except classic MC wasn't the same as vanilla as classes were more structured with the 1.12 client and talent trees + gear in better spots. So of course raids would be easier this time around.

I´d love to see a list of hardest dungeon (heroic/mythic) bosses, not raids, despite perhaps being seemingly less popular or debated

I absolutely loved the Ilidan fight. So simple yet so demanding in simple numbers.

To be fair, the bosses on WoW Classic are the 1.12 versions which are heavily nerfed.

Not quite. The talents and the gear is in its final form in 1.12. As far as i know bosses didnt get nurfed in 1.12. But i may be wrong. Could you link me something to that regard? :) People are just better and know how to get the most out of their characters. Thats why wotlk private server bosses in ICC 25 HC have 200-300% more HP, because people just know how to play it properly now.

i think that what people really come to the raids for is the long bosses even if they dont know it or just refuse to admit it

The longer boss fights were always good at weeding out your worst raiders as they didn't have the best concentration.

Garrosh LFR or NHC (as mythic already was released) with a random group was horrible... Mostly you wiped cause people didnt understand to focus overtaken players and just brain afkd Garrosh.

Any this is why I've said what I've said about vanilla wow. It's not as hard as people remember it because the difficulty came from not knowing how to properly min max. As shown when people blasted through raids in a matter of hours. Along it fizzling out as time went on seeing as the treadmills it had are easy to over overcome.

How long was Mythic Archimonde on Average? I don't remember if World First had maxed Legendary rings so it may have been a long fight, but I don't think I remember it being 15min+.

How long did The lich king fight last and how long did the C'thun fight last??

Before I watch this I'm gonna expect Twin Emperors to be here. That fight took like 30 fucking minutes.

Only disagreement I have is Sha of Fear. After the first week the average kill dropped dramatically. In my normal not very hardcore guild atm, we would kill sha in maybe 9-10 minutes on average

Cho'gall is one of my favorite warcraft characters.

I remember Ragnaros back in classic taking 15+ mins. This was a long fight, and we were expected to 'wand' or melee our mana until it came back. I remember various ZG fights taking...around 15 minutes to complete, especially after multiple wipes. The trash took a long time too. Magtheridon took a while because he had so much HP, and you kept having to constantly switch to the adds that would form around the room. That, and we may have been slightly undergeared. Deathwing was probably one of the longest fights ever! It just so had many phases, and some of which were almost passive in which you had to wait for adds or stacks in order to progress. It took quite a long time.

The longest fight I had in LFR was an LFR Coven in Antorus that lasted 13m30... We didn't kill the boss

Why would you use the enrage time for anything. It is an arbitrary number for most fights.

@@Mikumo91 Yeah but that's assuming Blizzard didn't tuned the fight poorly in term of enrage timer. Illidan had a 25 min enrage timer that you would basically never see if you played the fight somewhat correctly. That's definitely a bad metric for fight lenght.

What's enrage timer?

“Not even modern guilds write down their fight lengths.” I forget if someone has to upload the info or if it magically appears, but The Warcraft logs website tracks every stat you could hope to record, and a lot of people are anal about kill time. And after any successful encounter, an addon reports to chat with some desired information, like this: “Il’gynoth (H25) downed in 6:45 with 23 players remaining. You have defeated this boss 3 times.” And because everyone is paranoid about carrying dead weight through raids, kill time comes may come up regularly depending on who you are with. “X guild downed it in 7 min. There’s no reason we can’t.” “Taking longer than 10 min, someone’s not pulling their weight.” Endless examples.

Casual guilds like us back in BC and WotLK where always close to this enrage timers. And we have seen them go enrage more then we liked it 😆 So Illidian where even end of this season like 23+ minutes or something.

@@metzli5797 Myeah, BRD has more bosses in it than any other instance in the game i think. For both raids and dungeons, as an example.

Just a small point for Garrosh LFR. The fight was originally 18 minutes enrage, up from the 15 minutes enrage on Normal (this later became Heroic). Some 6-8 months after the release of Siege of Orgrimar, every LFR group had to wipe the boss 10 times before they could kill it, as the quality of players had become that bad. It was then hotfixed to give 25 minutes, and yet most groups still wiped at least 5-8 times due to the enrage.

It was probably because Blizz made a lvl 90 boost available at that time, while MoP was still the current expansion. So you had people that were bad coupled with no gear from the 90 boost.

@@luksp96 You're probably right about that. I recall the level boost gear being good enough to get you straight in to Siege of Orgrimar. Either way I'm glad there's no longer an hour queue followed by 3 hours of trying to kill a single boss on the easiest difficulty available lmao
