    The narrator loves the sound of his own voice. Talk about destroy the surprise and the suspense! We want to hear the auctioneer and see how high the item climbs, not get told in the voice-over which totally kills any fun to be had stone dead.

    About two months ago I was taking the rubbish to my apartment building complex. Someone was dumping an oil painting. I looked at the back and it had a gallery sticker which read, £1500, Jose Herrera and title Gerrera Assis. I looked up the artist and saw he was quite well known. I took it to a dealer who valued it at auction at $600-800 (Australia) but two weeks ago at auction it sold for $2,400! Trash to treasure! Bernie

    For those of you who’ve never watched Bargain Hunt before, this kind of sell is REALLY rare. The pure joy of a British basement antiques fair is that it’s mostly tat that will barely pull a profit at auction half the time, yet you all feel like you’re David Dickinson, haggling for collectibles and stuff. My defining memory of the show was an antiques “expert” advising an indecisive couple to purchase a hideous mock-ceramic garden gnome water feature for £180 (down from £250) because his great aunt had one or something, and it sold at auction for £30. The coveted “Golden Gavel” doesn’t happen often.

    Bargain Hunt is all staged. The contestants don't get to pick the items for auction. My friend and I were flight attendants on a layover and saw them taping a show in Lewes. We spoke with the host and producer. They wanted us to go on the show. We were so excited. But later found out that it's faked. We would have had to fly from the US to the UK to tape a show. Too much effort for a fake contest.

    The only problem with the Faberge flowers, though, is that they weren't bought by contestants. Those are just part of one of the side stories the show tells to pad the time out to half an hour. And also please, for the love of god. Christina Trevanion's name has been spoken hundreds of times over the years on Bargain Hunt. You couldn't listen to someone else pronouncing it before absolutely butchering it?!

    I recall, in the early years when David Dickinson was in charge, an old and tatty wooden box (I think it was from the 1600s) which went for a price in the £000s. I don't think that it had actually been bought for sale by either team, but it had been picked up on in the sale room by David to see how much it went for.

    I hate it when a stall holder has knocked a good chunk off the asking price giving the contestants a really good deal yet the ungrateful tight-fisted contestants (or the so-called expert) want the item at an even cheaper price. I'm hoping to see a stall holder on Bargin Hunt telling such contestants and experts to piss off. There was a Bargain Hunt episode at an open air flea market where the stall holder was a young woman tired from standing there all day having set her stall up early in the morning. She'd already reduced an item to a give-away price for the contestants but the snobby Kate Bliss began intimidating the young woman by saying things like, 'I'd be happier if you could sell it for a lower price.' You could see the upset and shivering young woman wanted the Bargain Hunt team to just go away and so she let Bliss have the item for pennies. Shame on Bargain Hunt experts and contestants who go to such lengths to squeeze the last drop out of a stall holder. What takes the biscuit is how proud the contestants and 'experts' feel at ripping off a stall holder.

    @@marknadj9452 Bargain (noun): A thing bought or offered for sale much more cheaply than is usual or expected. Bargain (verb): Negotiate the terms and conditions of a transaction. The only thing we weren’t allowed to buy were things that were branded. For example, we wanted to buy a small Mr Peanut statue but weren’t allowed. The directors actually spend a lot of time during the filming considering if the item we were looking at was okay, so for an hour that we get finding items, it actually took 2 hours 30 mins to film, with half the time the directors/producer debating stuff, and all the extra camera shots. Why do contestants have to do these silly challenges? Instead of being able to choose 3 items their own choice is restricted to one item. Having to spend at least £75 on something they might not want or something art deco, ceramic, wooden etc. spoils the nature of the programme.

  • @patrickbarks997

    @patrickbarks997

    The point of getting them to spent at least £75 on something is to make it more difficult to potentially find an item which will make a profit. I think most people can buy something for £5-10 and it will no doubtedly make a profit of some kind, even £12 or something, but it's much harder to find something expensive and actually be confident there could be some profit there.

As they auctioned her contestants' items she was almost uncontrollable. Waving her hands, jerking about and laughing and smiling at every word or movement by the auctioneer. In contrast the contestant was quite subdued and a bit perplexed. Now, for the record, I'm also a fan of Natasha's, but wonder if she is using some form of medication that creates this troubling behaviour. (I've seen it a number of times.)

    These days the awful Wonnacott has been relegated to narration, a narrative he thinks is amusing (and he often laughs at his own 'wit'); but he is just intrusive and though the bbc did all it could to get rid of him, he manages to spoil the show. Bargain Hunt is now for the chop, sadly, not least due to the boring old men who keep trying to make the show about them.

    Nobody finds items like these in charity shops or car boots anymore because of tv shows like Bargain Hunt, now people know what their bric-a-brac is worth

    Not worth watching. None of the auctions are shown.
