Better yet for any other day, if you rent a tool in the evening when the store is no longer open for at least 4 hours past the time you rent the tool, you get it until the next morning for the 4-hour price.

Pro tip for getting assistance. If you need something from high on a shelf, go find one of their "aircraft loading stairs" and wheel it over. Guaranteed they'll coming running out of the woodwork, fearing that a lawsuit is about to happen, lecturing you about how dangerous it is. One way or the other, objective accomplished.

Used to work at Home Depot. We had ripped bags of mulch and rocks in garden and concrete mix inside. Also, any normal employee has up to $50 they can mark off every shift with putting the customer first. So for instance let's say you wanted to buy 15 feet of Romax cable but they were all out of that size you could get a 25 foot Roll for the same price as 15 feet and just ask them to mark it down and they almost always will without even having to talk to a manager. Department heads could write off $100, ASM/GM for $200 or more. This may have changed as this was more than a decade ago but rather than driving to a second Home Depot for a product, see if you can get a bigger/better one for the same price as the smaller/cheaper one first

Really I couldn’t even get them to use my pro credit rewards on Christmas decorations. They said they were already half off too bad. And then they returned the plumbing item which was a hose for a refrigerator for $25 to an account that no longer exist. I tried to explain this, but they said take it up with the 800 number. It used to be my favorite toy store but you know their customer service is really gone downhill.

I bought some really large (24x48) floor tile that was displayed as a new item for $5.99/sq ft. Two months later it had been reduced to - wait for it - $0.59/sq ft. Yes, 90% off. Apparently HD decided that it wasn't generating enough sales and they wanted it gone. I asked if I could get a price match on the tile already purchased, and they agreed! Best deal I ever got there. Point being: watch for price reductions on stuff you recently bought.

Another tip: contractor type orders (will calls) are available to any customer. If you want to get a sale price but can't take the item(s) home the same day (maybe you don't have time or need to wait for a friend to be available to help you drive it home), or if you just want someone else to pick then item(s) from the shelf for you (not advised for lumber though if you want to ensure straight boards), then place an order with the pro desk or customer service, pay for it, and you can pick up the items another day.

As to the tool rental maintenance, I rented a small electric chainsaw from HD and was a little shocked to learn that for liability reasons they replace the chain after each rental. At least that's what they said. And yes, no matter what I'm in for, I will always go by the clearance sections. But I do have to say that at one local HD, not everything on the clearance shelf is at a clearance price so look carefully.

I was at Home Depot in Klamath, Oregon, waiting for some one. As I stood there I watched someone pulling all the nice plants off the shelves and putting them into a large shopping cart. These were not the cheap plants, these all had a price tag of $29.95 or more. I asked what she was doing. She told me when they get a new shipment in all the current stock was written off as a loss and thrown away. I suggested they would make a beautiful gift for people in nursing homes, or they could be donated to the local garden club as a fund raiser. I was then told if I wanted them, after the store was closed I could get them out of the dumpster behind the store. I would have if I did not live about 50 miles away. Seems like such a sad waste.

I just so happened to be there when an employee was cutting some of it into smaller pieces and asked about it. He said they no longer sold it but destroyed it. I am working at a home depot in Canada, and I can tell you things that happen. Monthly write offs, if the item has not sold during the markdown period, then we just write it off and dumpster. I usually will take the time out of the packaging before tossing it, making sure that the pieces are all separated, sometimes the items are sealed and brand new, some are expensive. Online orders returned, meaning the item does not sell in the store but must be ordered online. Sometimes the customer returns it for whatever reason, still new, it is now marked down at various percentage off depending on the item. I have seen regular $1000.00 and we sell it off at 50% off.

Dented or damaged appliances etc, dumpster. Garden plants are recycled out weekly, dumpster. When new items come in to replace older model items, dumpster. I recall seeing a load of new rakes come in one spring and the only difference to the old rakes they were replacing was the color of the handle, dumpster.

One bit of caution with HD (and probably Lowes as well) is if you need something loaded with a forklift - expect to wait, sometimes for quite a while. They're fairly unorganized in this respect and I think only one time out of ten was "the guy" available, not at lunch, not on break, not loading someone else, isn't out sick, hadn't misplaced the keys, etc, etc. Just be patient.

Used to be an order picker for home depot. They usually have a couple people trained on reach truck (inside forklift) from different departments and might have the lumber and seaonal person trained on the sit down forklift, but otherwise the picker is the primary equipment operator on duty (trained on all material handling equipment). I had some nights I would have 4 or 5 associates asking me at once to help a customer so I had to just go in order (all while still trying to pick my orders for the night). If you need something pulled down from the shelves, do the workers a favor and try to see if it is on a pallet nearby somewhere. More people tend to have forklift training than order picker training (to pull an individual box off the shelf from up high that is to heavy to carry).

When I asked managers about it, they said it was a mandate sent down from corporate that all culled lumber must go into the compactor and cannot be given away. I was given two different reasons - one was that people would use a receipt for purchased lumber to return the culled lumber for a refund, and the second was that everything thrown in the compactor was a tax write off as a business loss.

In addition to the lowest price guarantee, I'm pretty sure that HD will still beat a price by 10%. That's huge on a big ticket item. A few years ago, I bought a Cub Cadet rider. 1,599 at HD. 1,499 sale at Tractor Supply. Got the mower at HD for 1,350.

is it still running?, I bought two NEW cub cadet mowers at around $1,700. each both blew the headgasket within 4 mow's of my yard....when I called for warranty work they repeatedly hung up on me....I might understand that if I was rude but I wasnt and they still hung up on me. I had other issues like parts completely falling off the mower on the first mow etc etc I will NEVER EVER buy another Cub Cadet. I went with a Bad Boy and have been very happy with it

@@psu7276 sounds like you won the mower lottery lol When i took the last one in to get fixed there were 15 brand new cubs just like mine sitting in the service yard waiting on repair. That was the point I threw up hands and said no more. I suggest you put a ball valve on your fuel line and cut off fuel to your carb when not in use. One of the things that happened to me is the fuel (even with Stabil) clogged the carb needle seats and allowed fuel to fill the entire engine and push all the oil out past the gaskets. I cranked up the mower and it was slinging oil everywhere ( that was the first one before the head gasket blew on around the third mow. also keep an eye on your spindles and belt retainers. You can take the spindles apart and add (functional) zerk fittings to grease them and they will last longer and stay put together. Hope you continue to have good luck man.

I heard about a guy that worked for HD about 20 years ago when some of them were open 24 hrs. He'd have a friend come in and get 5 gallons of custom paint mixed which he'd refuse. Right to the oops rack. The guy would dump all the paint down the slop sink, line the bucket with a plastic bag and fill it with whatever tools would fit and call his friend to come in and buy the bucket in the morning. Might be a rumor.
