Top 10 Hardest Sports In The World

No competitive sports is easy to succeed in and all require focus and time but this is a list of the 10 most challenging sports you can possibly try. It's broken down into 2 separate lists, the first being the top 5 sports with the highest skill floor and the second is the top 5 sports with the highest skill ceiling. In my opinion, when broken down like this, you get a much better perspective on what exactly it is about that activity that makes it so difficult.

I did seriously consider it and the only reason I didn’t include it was because I viewed it more generally as driving or racing rather than F1 specifically (partly because the average person can’t access F1 even if they wanted to and partly because there are other variants like F2). Then the skill floor isn’t as bad. The skill ceiling is still high though and was a close contender. I accept my criminal charges 😄

@@dmorgan true, but I guess that that is what makes the floor so high for that sport. I think that it should be high on the first list then due to how difficult it is to

baseball should probably be one of the 5 hardest sports in the world, at least an honorable mention because it is easier to take down someone 100-150 lbs heavier than you than it is to hit a 95+ mph fastball that for 1, spins, and 2, it may be moving inside at you, or moving away from you both at the last second. Its a sport that you have to play to understand completely.

Yeah I did consider it. You’re right in that it doesn’t get the credit it deserves in terms of challenge, particularly at the top level. It narrowly missed out from this list but if I did a top 20, it would definitely be there

Yeah even football/soccer is very underrated in terms of difficulty. The fact that it’s so mainstream means that the skill ceiling is very high to be at the top and the fitness demands to be a PL footballer is rarely appreciated.

I would never dare to rate sports in any form and now I know why. Rating skill cealing is just impossible. If you play any sports at the top level you will be practicing 24/7, no matter what sport. Ranking skill floor though is pretty cool, never thought about that. But putting Golf there, where the floor is basically just money seems a bit weird. Same goes for diving, because you need like a Pool and thats it, there you go. I would try to rate the sports as "How many can do it if they habe the equipment?". Skiing (in particular freestyle skiing) is definitly hard, ice hockey too. But on top would definitely be triathlon. How many people can swim nearly 4km, then cycle around 200 (?) km, and after that, running a Marathon??? This is just insane. Also any extreme Sports like skydiving have very high level entry floor

I appreciate the honest feedback. While I agree that rating by skill floor is easier, I think reducing certain sports like golf to just money is too simplistic. I was a caddy for many years as a teenager and I’ve seen every kind of golfer. Often wealthy people can overcompensate with expensive gear when in reality they just need to sort out the basics. Some of the best local golfers I know work minimum wage. When I think of skill ceiling, I think of mastering the subtleties like golf shots and things like chess which takes huge amounts of practice, refinement and usually talent too

I dont think you can do a top 10. All sports are hard, I dont think people realize how gifted AND how much you have to train to make it to the top, for basically all sports

I agree that all sports are tough in their own way, particularly at the top level. But that’s why I wanted to do the skill floor & skill ceiling breakdown. Some sports are harder to get the basics and others have such a high ceiling that simply practicing a lot isn’t enough. Something I didn’t really cover in this video is the talent vs environment concept. You could be Michael Jordan or Messi but without the right development pathway, you could end up a good player rather than one of the best ever.
