Luz Long, who’d enjoyed practicing his English with Jesse Owens as they prepped for the 1936 Olympics, was killed during WWII, leaving behind an infant son. The younger Long remained close friends with Owens until the latter’s death, getting a vivid picture of the father whom he’d never known.
There actually is a medal for this in the Olympics, called the Pierre de Coubertain, for high valor and respect. A Medal of Honour for sporstmanship, if you will.

So a consolation prize
“I think sportsmanship is knowing that it is a game, that we are only as good as our opponents, and whether you win or lose, to always give 100 percent.” - Sue Wicks

I agree with that quote! I don’t get why some players get so toxic & have bad sportsmanship to the point where they rage over the games the play & sometimes lose at! They clearly need to see this quote, understand it & learn how to have good sportsmanship & not be toxic players!

There’s the moment in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where the two leading high jumpers agreed to share the gold medal.

Omg I can still remember how excited the Italian athlete was when his friend proposed they split gold
When Dale Earnhardt finally won the Daytona 500 in 1998, every team member of every team lined up on pit road to congratulate Dale on finally getting the win. It was basically the only trophy in Nascar that Dale hadn't won until that point.
In February of 2016, there was a series of shootings in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was a very scary night. The next evening, the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team was scheduled to play the Toledo Walleye, a team where there is often a very ugly rivalry amongst the fans. That game began with both teams standing united and intermingled during the National Anthem. After the game, the Walleye auctioned their jerseys and donated the proceeds to the families of the victims. There is a picture of the line of players standing united on the wall at Wings Event Center, where the K Wings play, I get chills every time I walk past it.
I haven’t cried happy tears to a WatchMojo video in a long time. More videos like this are a must. ❤️
This has been one of my absolute favorite top 10's on watchmojo - absolutely heartwarming from 10 to 1!! ❤️
Another example would be in F1 when Ayrton Senna risked his own life to save the life of fellow driver Erik Comas, with Comas forever crediting Senna for saving his life. RIP Senna, forever the GOAT of F1.
These athletes have my respect. I salute to all of you
We need more of lists like these.
This list was fueled after that scary hit during the LLWS baseball game when the kid walked over to the pitcher, who was still demoralized after hitting him, and hugged him.

This list includes real sports moments
One of the BEST videos by Watchmojo!!!
Anyone familiar with hockey knows when a team wins the Stanley Cup the captain is first to carry the cup around the rink...knowing this, when the Avalanche won the cup in 2001 Captain Joe Sakic gave up that right & handed the cup to Ray Bourque after the commissioner handed it to him. Bourque raised the Cup for a few moments & tried to hand it back to Sakic, but he refused, insisting Bourque skate a lap with it. This event should've been on this list.

Considering it was Bourque's last season and last crack at winning a championship as a player, it added more emotion to the moment.
With all the comments here, I hope you guys do a part two! Thanks for this list, it's just what I needed! ♥️
Honestly surprised you didn’t include Gianmarco Tamberi and Mutaz Barshim sharing gold for the high jump.
In Tokyo Olympic 2020, the 2 athletes of High Jump from Qatar and Italy shared their gold together because both of their score almost tight and the Qatar athlete want to share the gold medal with Italian athlete and the jury agree with it.

Another Summer Olympics story from Berlin featured two Japanese pole vaulters battling for silver and bronze before darkness ended the competition. The two athletes later had their medals cut in half so that each received a medal that was half-silver and half-bronze. They are now called the Medals of Eternal Friendship
Barshim and Tamberi sharing gold in the Tokyo Olympics '21 is a terrific moment as well!

Totally agree that was a great moment
In the final minutes of the 1973 college basketball title game in the U.S., three players on Memphis State carried an injured Bill Walton of UCLA to the bench. Walton had just scored 44 points against Memphis State, dashing their hopes of upsetting the Bruins. It was the best act of sportsmanship in college basketball I ever saw.
Mine will always be when Jeff Gordon payed tribute to Dale Earnhardt at Phoenix in 2007.
I have tears and goosebumps watching this video.
Not one mention of rugby?! A sport that is literally built around the notion of respect.
Honestly these were beautiful
THE ENTIRE 2001 NASCAR SEASON WAS A TRIBUTE AND RESPECT SHOQ FOR DALE EARNHARDT
Awesome love these great moments great list here
Great video. We definitely need a part 2
This is my favorite WatchMojo list ever!!! 😇🥰
Jonas Vingegaard waiting for Tadej Pogacar in this years Tour de France after pogacar crashed on a decent was pretty sweet too. Also David Purley trying to save Roger Williamson in F1 in 1973! If you haven't seen it look it up!!
Where’s the guys who shared gold in the high jump at the olympics last year..? Had to be on the list.
This made me tear up
Respect to all these people. So glad to see Rafael Nadal, one of my favourite sportsmen of all time, on the list.

I didn't expect to see him give a kiss to a ball girl.
I love videos like this where we get reminded that there is still so much good in the world! 💙
That was a great grouping of videos!
My favorite greatest sport moment is when Shawn Michaels, Triple H and The Undertaker were carrying each other after the Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania 28
For several years, my husband competed as an amateur athlete in the Scottish Highland Games, all over Texas. I loved watching and cheering for him, but one of my favorite things about the Games was that almost every competitor would encourage the others. Each wanted to win, of course, but they also enjoyed seeing someone break a record or achieve a new personal best. It was a perfect combination of competition, camaraderie, and kilts. Good sportsmanship raises any game.
Great video 😊
Actually another Nascar one, Homestead 2016. To set the stage, 4 drivers were going for the championship: Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson. Edwards was cruising to the championship until a late caution came out with about 10-15 laps to go. On the restart, Logano lined up right behind Edwards. As they took the green, Logano got a much better restart than Edwards, Edwards tried to block but was too late and spun off Logano's bumper, destroying his car. After he exitted the car, Edwards ran over to Logano's team crew, and basically said "hey, that was a racing incident, no offense taken, go get that win". Ultimately Logano also lost (Johnson ended up getting the championship).
The ladies playing baseball and carrying their opponent really touched me.
Great Video ♥️🥰
Such a beautiful list can we do more like this one
Awesome video
Was not expecting to cry at a sports list on WatchMojo, but here we are.
I remember that WCWS home run. The opposing team helping her truly made the game so much better
What a bunch of respect to see in sports
Barshim and Tamberi Sharing the Gold Medal in Tokyo 2021 in High Jump absolutely is Best Olympic Moment in the Last Years or Maybe Ever, Also When Luz Long Run Together With Jesse Owens when Owen Won the Gold Medal In Berlin 1936.
My faith in humanity has been at least partially restored.
Great sportsmanship
So wholesome
I didn’t cry a bit out of respect and love about this list, you did! I’m not crying, you’re crying! Things like this help me, barely, keep faith in humanity.
For me it's the time that the anthem singer's microphone cut out while she was singing the American National Anthem and the Canadian Toronto Maple Leafs fans in attendance finished the anthem.
Watchmojo is literally the best😁
don't know if I'm just a crybaby tonight, but man tears throughout the video LOL!😊
great love sports
Ahhh. Refreshing watching happy news!!
Anderson Silva placing his Title Belt and BJJ black belt on the floor and bowing as low as humanly possible at Chael Sonnen's feet after 23 minutes of getting beat up worse than he ever had in his whole career followed by a last minute choke out of Sonnen, was gold. So was Justin Gaethje consoling Khabib Nurmagomedov as soon as he woke up and found the guy who just put him out weeping uncontrollably over the loss of his father and life long fighting coach. Gaethje told him his dad was proud and Khabib just got up, it was brutal and beautiful.
Jimmie johnson pushing chase Elliott back to the front stretch after he won his first race and ran out of gas. Or Jimmie giving chase a high five and congratulating cause on his first championship
Amazing humans.
good video
Top Ten Earns of Respect in Video Games
Bruhhh who's cutting all these onions 😭😭
I think there is one more to be added in this video, where in SEA Games Philippines support and cheer a country that is yet to win a medal on that years Timor Leste that was one memorable moment of rwspect and sportsmanship.
wow got tears
Gold, silver and bronze are great, sportsmanship is way misunderstood by most today. There is no record book for such actions but they are the soul of all sports.
Great list! Although next time you guys might want to check Paolo Di Canio's background before including him as an honorable mention... ouch!
The Mario moment in the honorable mentions pales greatly to March 2, 1993. Lemieux beat Hodgkins Disease, and rushed from his treatment spot in Wexford across the state to the Philadelphia Spectrum. They gave him a 5 minute long standing ovation that delayed the anthems for the player that beat their franchise the most. Nothing but class.
Wish this was a top 20. That way even the honorable mentions could get a spot.
⭐️My pick for an iconic sportsmanship moment in sports entertainment is the Boxing Fight Trilogy of Arturo Gatti vs Mickey Ward where they embrace and hug in the ring afterwards and compliment each other with respect and sportsmanship. 🥊 This turned into a friendship as well as Ward retiring and joining Gatti as his coach for his Gatti’s later fights. 🌟Great sportsmanship moment! 🥊
That's a good LIST but i would really like to put the Eriksen incident in euros 2020 at least as an honourable mention .The amount of respect he received from his Denmark teammates to the players he doesn't even know is incredible.
If there ever was a WM video where I'd like to see a Top 20 instead of Top 10, this would be it. Please see if you can find more moments like this. Thanks
I met Diego Sanchez in Miramar/San Diego/Top Gun, California while I was stationed there in 2006 during the UFC fight in 'Hanger 2" along with Gunny Sgt Ermmy....Oorah Marines//Sgt L'K/USMC
The women’s baseball homerun one makes me cry every time I see it.
Denmark v Finland in Euros last year should be here
Can't believe they didn't mention my boy Lightning McQueen pushing The King to the finish line after his accident during the race.
Real Madrid fans applauding Ronaldinho in their own field
WatchMojo has stooped to new lows by having someone sneak into my room and cut onions before I pressed play for this video. 😫😫😭😭
Now we need a second top ten with Di Canio on the top. Sorry, NASCAR guys. In another top 10 Di Canio deserves the top. Period.
Number 1 should be Sir Lewis Hamilton congratulating Max Verstappen after he was screwed over by the government body of a record-breaking 8th world championship
Womens baseball one is replicated in a league of their own series
I went to Central Washington University. My first apartment was right next to that softball field
What about the recent Little League Championship games?
Wait, is that Scott Sterling in the thumbnail? 😂

I'm not sure how the Gatlin one got in the top 10, taking aside it was show of respect to the winner and a legend was no more than u see at lots of athletic events and especially that specific event and race booed so much because of his drug history.
most of them are common in cricket
2021 Euro - Finland - Danemark - fans of both teams chanting Christian Eriksen's name.
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Not mentioning Vingegaard at the TDF shows how you just use old material
Once again you missed any Australian sport incidents for example the moment after the AFL match between the West Coast Eagles and Adelaide Crows when both teams huddled in a circle to commemorate the death of the Adelaide coach the week before.
Not even an honorable mention for the entire pit row congratulated the late dale Earnhardt on hia first Daytona 500 win?
What about when every single team honored kobe with an 8 second violation and a 24 due to the numbers he wore?
Are we going to see more respectable moments of sports like these in the future? Which one of these moments do you think is the best?

Bolt had an Olympic Gold Metal taken away. He didn't drug, but a Jamaican on the relay team did, so 3 innocent athletes lost their medals.
wait wait wait. Number 3, with the two girls running the 5000m. You're telling me that she ran almost the entire race on a snapped ACL? Holy shit
Respect on sports Where is Lyoto Machida? Probably the most respectful mma fighter of all time
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Smh, where is Lightning McQueen pushing The King over the finish line ?!?
