Mamma Mia and especially All Shook up based around 25 Elvis songs and I was in the school version my high school senior year !
Head Over Heels is a cute jukebox musical with music from the Go-Gos. But it wasn't a huge success and closed quickly. Still, the cast was super diverse- I loved that the character who was supposed to be "the most beautiful girl in the kingdom" was plus sized.
Moulin Rogue Mamma Mia Some songs from both of them are so catchy.

I love that the Cher Show and Mamma Mia were both on here! And happy that On Your Feet and Head Over Heels were honorable mentions, at least. Some more that should be here: & Juliet and Summer
That was a definite feel-good break in my day. Loved everything on the list!

Beautiful is one of my favorite musicals. I saw the tour on a whim to see Ben Fankhauser perform and have seen it on Broadway right before Kara Lindsay left the show. Such a good show. One of the few shows I can see multiple times and never get tired of it.
3. Mamma Mia - because it’s physically impossible not to sing along 2. Rock of Ages - because rock will never die 1. We Will Rock You (No. 8, seriously?! What is wrong with you???) - because you cannot beat Queen, period.
Two you totally missed were Movin’ Out (Billy Joel) and the Donna Summer Musical Summer
Really enjoyed these musicals!
If you could pick a genre or artist to CREATE a jukebox musical, what would it be? Mine would be the music of Pink. So many of her songs already tell powerful stories and she has some major party jams to bring the energy, I think they’d work well to create a show around.
I've never been much of a musical guy, but I love the movie version of Rock Of Ages.

very very great epic fun list I like it a lot very great job mis mojo one of my very favorite list ever ❤
Singing in the Rain is actually a jukebox musical. All of the songs (apart from Make Them Laugh and Moses Supposes) were first released in the 1920s and 30s.
My favorite Jukebox musicals are: Thriller Live, the musical about the life of Michael Jackson and Sunny Afternoon, the musical about the real true story about the life of The Kinks and how The Kinks rose to fame.
Shout the Mod Musical should have at least made honorable mentions. 60's hits sung by an all female cast? c'mon
All Shook Up is my fave as I was in it plus I loooooooove Elvis! Xxxx
I'm very convinced that some of the "clips" from We will rock you are from the german shows (except the two where the cast sings). It's amazing btw. Very powerful - obviously because it's Queen - but how they incorporate the songs is just wonderful ^-^

What about "The Who's Tommy," based of the rock opera of the same name?
@sparklemotion101ni3
2 жыл бұрын
Not a jukebox musical. It's literally an adaptation of the film. Jukebox musicals take an assortment of songs and build a musical around them; they don't take a movie-musical and putit on stage.
I would add in....Girl from the North County which is all music by Bob Dylan.
if only "Balan Wonderworld" can have a jukebox-musical! but its ok!😉
Movin’ Out, The musical built around Billy Joel’s music didn’t even get an honorable mention?? That is a crime!
The Who had a stage show Tommy which was a rock opera featuring a lot of their music
All shook up? Movin’ out?
The Boy From Oz!
Love the four seasons
Fun fact; One of the critics that lampooned WWRY never actually saw the show. Brain May found out and roasted them in an open letter published in the paper.
I would kill to see one of my favorite movies Sing be adapted into a stage musical.

Absolutely SLEEPING on Disaster the musical.
Summer: The Donna Summer Musical had a limited engagement on Broadway (I don’t know why it closed within a year) but 2 of the Stars Ariana Debose and LaChanze were both nominated for a Tony. It’ll be touring this coming year. Maybe an honorable mention? 🤷🏼♀️

At the time, it was competing with multiple other jukebox shows and it was honestly just not up to snuff. It played like a 100-minute Wikipedia article of her life with little character development and her songs awkwardly crammed in an anachronistic fashion. Good for a cruise ship or a drag show, but not Broadway.

I’d never seen it, I heard that it was good and quite frankly, because the 2 leading ladies got Tony nods, I thought it would be. I trust you.
It'd be nice if they were all original stories. I feel it's more interesting if you can take existing songs and make an original story around them, especially if you don't have to change the words of the songs.

I saw WWRY in New Haven, CT. It was a tasteless production of the London version.
What about & Juliet
Maybe I’m a little biased, because it’s one of my favorite musicals, but… Does Moulin Rouge truly classify as a jukebox musical 🤷♀️ In my oppinion, they have changed so many of the songs so much from the originals, that I’m not sure it’s still a jukebox 🤷♀️ And they have an original song in it as well… But it may just be me, who thinks that jukebox musical, is like putting on the original song, without altering it☝️🤷♀️

@@margegarland7635 "Les Miserables" was an album before it was a musical. So were "Cats,""Evita," "Chess,""Jesus Christ Superstar," "Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," and "Hadestown." "Hamilton" began in 2009 as "The Hamilton Mixtape." "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" began as an album long before it was an off-Broadway musical or a Broadway show. So they're all jukebox musicals, right? I'd always thought that the definition of "jukebox musical" is a show in which a story is written around pre-existing pop songs that have long been available to be played on the radio or on a jukebox. But if you want the definition to be any show in which there's a sung-through concept album (ie a cast album/musical) with its own story was written and recorded before that sung-through musical was produced to be performed on stage, then any show that was developed by recording songs first and performing those songs on stage next - once the album has been used afterwards to attract producers - is a "jukebox musical." It's an imaginary jukebox in which all the songs happen to be by the same singer/songwriter and - by concidence? those songs are all from the same sung-through musical with a plot that's understood without anyne stepping onto a stage.
