Paul Morphy must be mentioned. Won in every competition, was the far more strong than any other of his time. Also worth mentioning the fist world champion. Steinitz developed a theory of positional game.

Morphy was the greatest player of his day. Howard Staunton claimed he was too busy to play him. Morphy should be at least 3rd.

Kramnik is there. But not Anand? How much did that w**d cost?
Interesting fact about Kasparov. He says when he lost the match against IBM computer in 97 it been his first loss. At all.
@davidcopson5800

He meant of course the first match he lost. No just the first time he lost a game of chess.
I agree with the top three. Anand should be here though. And, as others have stated, Morphy and Steinitz need a mention at least.
1. Tal 2. Morphy 3. Fisher

Agreed ♥️
I agree with the Top 3. I think the best measure of greatness is the point difference of the No.1 Player with the median of the next top 100 players of his time and for how long he holds it. Kasparov has been on top by way more than 120 pts with the rest of the fields while Carlsen only about 60pts. and Fischer about 70pts.

Pure point difference comes up a bit short imo. You also need to factor in how close they were to peak (3000) rating. I.e., if player A was 2500 and the median of the next 100 was 2000, I’d argue that is not as impressive as if player B was 2900 and the median of the next 100 was 2700. Player A would be 300 rating points better than their peers comparatively, but also 400 points lower than player B, who would also be a lot closer to peak rating. As well as you need to calculate how opponent strength measures in. I.e., if player A reaches 2500 by only playing against opponents closer to 2000-2300 that is not as impressive (in my opinion) as player B reaching 2900 playing against opponents closer to 2600-2800. Because the better your opponents, the better you in turn must be. But all of that is a bunch of mathematical formulas I can’t come close to calculate personally

TOP 5 1. Paul Morphy 2. Bobby Fischer 3. Garry Kasparov 4. Magnus Carlsen 5. Me. 😀
1. Tal 2. Fischer 3. Morphy
Enjoyed the video. Here's my own list: 1) Magnus Carlsen 2) Garry Kasparov 3) Bobby Fischer 4) Anatoly Karpov 5) Paul Morphy 6) José Raúl Capablanca 7) Emanuel Lasker 8) Viswanathan Anand 9) Mikhail Botvinnik 10) Vladimir Kramnik The biggest reservation I have about my list is the absence of Alexander Alekhine, and I am open to being persuaded to include him instead of a current placeholder.
1.Robert fischer 2. Jose raul capablanca 3.Alexander alekhine 4.Valery kramnik 5.Anatoly karpov
If the 19th century counts, I would include Morphy and Steinitz at the expense of Tal and Kramnik. Other than that this is a plausible list in terms of the players it includes, the order can be argued forever. Honorable mention goes to Anand and Smyslov, even though they maybe would be just outside the top 10.
Petrosyan is so underrated

Vincent Keymer is coming!
Fischer would not be on the list if he wasnt from USA. Fischer have short time of playing. Did next to nothing when it comes to improve chess for other people. He was a lonely person. If Fischer had been russian or chinese, people would ask "Fischer, who is that?". Fischer should be on bottom of every world championship ranking in my mind.
Kramnik but not vishy?
