Top 10 Greatest Backcourts in NBA History

Спорт

A while ago, I counted down the greatest front courts in NBA History, so now, I figured I might as well do the greatest backcourts.

Oh yeah, KJ and Majerle. Pat Riley was a 3rd who I really liked. It was always fun when he came into the game with his red-hot intensity. The Bulls too -- Norm Van Lier and Jerry Sloan. Fred Brown was a great scoring 3.

Nice list! I’d put DJ and Gus Williams in the top10 though, mainly because of their peak(together), in which they even managed to win a title. Both All-NBA/All-Star caliber players, both complimented each other very well and together formed a fierce, complete back court! I’d also maybe put Byron Scott with Magic, instead of Michael Cooper… Coop was a hell of a player and I believe he belongs in the HoF, but due to Byron having a better peak(even though it didn’t last that long) and him playing in the starting 5(and not Coop)… I’d put Scott instead. And speaking of them, Norm Nixon and Magic was an incredible back court too! How about Pistol Pete and Sweet Lou Hudson? I believe that at some point, when Walt Hazzard was gone, and before Herm Gilliam jumped into the starting lineup, Maravich played PG and Hudson played SG… It wasn’t for long, they weren’t very successful, and the team didn’t really mesh well enough… but those were two great players paired together, and both 25+ PPG scorers!

Great with Walt and Earl. Good mention for Gus and Dennis. (add Fred B and you have a great 3). I also love Isaiah and Joe. Actually I love all these pairs. Ranking is another story. Magic and ... But I think I'd take Joe and Isaiah in the first spot. Oh yeah, Steph and Klay. Okay on that. Klay was a great defender.

Magic Johnson & Cooper, NO WAY. Cooper was basically his backup. Gus Williams & Dennis Johnson of Seattle deserves the top 10. A great athletic and defensive backcourt. Every year they played together as starters they made 3 straight western conference finals. 2 straight NBA Finals and won a championship

I like this list, but IT and Joe Dumars should absolutely be higher. The were at least slightly a better back court than Parker and Ginobli. Thomas and Dumars were the best and 2nd best overall players on there championship Pistons teams. Manu and Parker were #2 and #3 on the Spurs. Neither of them were more valuable than Duncan. I honestly believe they should also be ahead of Magic and Cooper. Magic was Magic, but Cooper, although a tremendous defender and GREAT role player, and really ahead of his time as a "3 and D" guy, he was not the overall player that Thomas and Dumars were. Magic and Byron Scott is actually a better choice for a back court. Solid list but that's the only issue I have. I'm fine with Steph and Klay at #1.

I would have put Cousy&Sharman rather than Cousy&Jones, the first couple played together in their prime, Sam Jones only became a starter in his fourth season in Boston, Sharman's last, and when Cousy was already in decline

not a bad list at all. glad you included clyde and the pearl, though i might have them a bit higher. i think tim hardaway and mitch richmond belong on the list. i don't think magic ever had a backcourt partner (especially a starter, which coop wasn't) that would make it to this list, but magic alone might be enough ;-) i think jerry west and gail goodrich are too high, even though jerry is a top 10 all time guard no question. manu and tony parker are too high also imo.

I think Curry and Klay are number one, but I believe Magic and Cooper and Second. My reasoning is, if you take out the next best player on the team, do they still win? With the Warriors it's Durant and yes. Showtime Lakers had Kareem and I'd say most likely yes. Then you take out Duncan from all thoughs Spurs runs, probably not, one at best.

@@tyrone1544 I don't need to be a basketball player to remember or read. See, I remember watching Kevin Johnson and Dan Marjele torment the Rockets in back-to-back playoff series in Houston's title seasons of 1994 and 1995. In the 1994 West Semis, Maxwell and Majerle beat on each other and shot 36.7% and 29.9% in those seven games. In the meantime, Kevin Johnson was too much for Kenny Smith and Sam Cassell, averaging 26.6 ppg to go with 9.7 apg. You see it's Majerle, a three-time All-Star and twice a member of the All-Defense Team, AND Johnson, five-time All-Star and 1989 Most Improved Player who averaged 19.0 ppg and 9.6 apg during his Suns career, and who played for seven seasons simultaneously with each other? Is that enough alliteration to convince a troll he doesn't know about something called Basketball Reference or hasn't been watching NBA games since 1964? You can learn a lot about how to play pro basketball in the paint with six years of season tickets six rows behind the opponents basket. I did play pickup from 1965 to 1993, when my right knee couldn't take the pounding. How many NBA games have you attended? I've been to over 200, and had the privilege of watching Hakeem Olajuwon develop into one of the top-10 all-time NBA players from about 30 feet away. He is the most athletic player over 6'10" in league history. I'm done, it's your turn to dazzle us with your deep insights on why drop coverage is better than leaving a man to protect the rim.

you're crazy. he hardly ever gets mentioned these days, and he was stellar. insane defense, fantastic ball handling and playmaking, could shoot the midrange with the best of them, could get to the rim, ... i always thought andrew toney was overrated at the time, even though he could be a scoring demon.
