Just a crazy unreal game! Yeah, it can definitely be claimed as the greatest game that ever happened in NBA history (especially considering that it was in the Finals). Paul Westphal’s 360 is so iconic! He’s one of the most underrated, overlooked players ever… From 1976 til 1980 (5 straight seasons) he averaged 22.5 points per game, 5.6 assists, and 1.8 steals, on 52% from the field and 83% from the FT line, in less than 33 minutes per game! 4 times All-NBA during that time span, 3x on the 1st team, and never played less than 80 games. In 1978 was 6th in PPG, in 1979 was 5th in APG, and in 1976 was 3rd in SPG. And yeah, lead them to the Finals in 1976, and almost did the same in 1979. Was very athletic, one of the best finishers (with either hand), had a good jumpshot, could pass and handle the ball, very good scorer, played defense! Shame that injuries cut his career short. RIP

Being from Boston this was an incredible game. The Sun's were tenacious led by maybe the smartest player on the court Paul Westphal. Unfortunately someone had to loose but both teams were worthy. Thank you Uncle Hays for this timeless memory.

As an 8 year old kid, this was the first season that I really started paying attention to NBA basketball. So Jo Jo White became my first favorite player.

Love Paul Silas. Gar Heard had an awesome Rainbow shot. I remember this game, AMAZING.

A few notes to add about the Westphal timeout. Despite what some claim, he knew what he was doing and a huge factor was the fact that they could advance the ball to mid-court. Without advancing the inbounds pass to half court they never would have a chance to get the ball to Gar Heard. Anyways great video

Charlie Scott was a prolific 25+ppg scorer in his first several seasons, but seemed to lack any defensive discipline whatsoever in pressure moments. He finished this series having committed 35 fouls - fouling out of every one of the first five games, just to commit another 5 more fouls in G6.

I just discovered your channel, and man, I really like the content! The algorithm blessed me with your 70's-80's basketball vids, and I really like the narration and the informative layout! Please make more! These eras of basketball don't get enough respect. Lots of hall of farmers that are criminally overlooked.

The '76 Suns should be in the discussion for being among greatest teams to have never won a chip.

@@tj5180 The Suns traded Goodrich to the Lakers in 1970, so the '69-'70 season was the only year Hawkins and Goodrich played together with the Suns. I have a DVD of the Christmas Day 1970 game between the Suns and the Atlanta Hawks, which is really cool because the Hawks had Pete Maravich, Lou Hudson and Walt Bellamy while the Suns had Hawkins, Dick Van Arsdale and Paul Silas.

As an opinion, this game does meet the claim of "greatest game ever." Factually, there are other contenders which involve Phoenix. One is Game 6 of the 1994 WCF won by the Rockets over the Suns. Another is the 2 OT win by the Blazers over the Suns in the 1992 WCS. The final score was 153-151, highest scoring playoff game in league history. I'll go for the Suns trifecta with the 1995 WCS vs. the Rockets, a repeat comeback from a 3-1 deficit just like 1994. Quite a history for a franchise still looking for its first crown after three finals appearances. True to their previous 4-2 finals defeats, they won the first two games in 2021 only to be swept in the next four. Someday fans in the Valley of the Sun may witness the ultimate success, but don't think this NBA fan for nearly 60 years will see it.

When a player fouls I believe they call it a disqualification instead of an ejection. Also for any wondering who won the series the Celtics did.
