Man, Tsuro is my go to for introducing people to boardgames

Timeline is one of our go-to games for family gatherings because anyone can play and I have, like, nine different editions of the game.

Played Camel Up at a board game cafe a few years ago and it was amazing. We stumbled upon it first and didn't want to stop. Definitely was both entertaining and frustrating all at the same time.

i love seeing these lists. They help me decide which games I can get that will not bore people to death. Keep doing them!

I've played several of these at Christmas, and all were met with joy (mercifully)! Tsuro was so easy everyone in the family could play it and the player who won succeeded by just flying around in circles on their corner of the board while everyone else charged ahead aggressively, couldn't even be mad. Ticket To Ride was a bit rulesy for many of the family, but they all had a good time working out the puzzle, balancing playing cleverly with playing "needlessly dickishly because if I can't win, then I have to make sure you have to lose, MERRY CHRISTMAS LITTLE BROTHER". Champion of the Wild was especially fun, my family had a few glasses of wine and just giggled our way through the events the whole way, but I'd say it works best with more than three players as the biggest "caveat".

Again, I want to recommend Pit for this list, too. It's super easy to explain, very fun to engage in (it's amazing how many different intonations one can add to numbers during a negotiation: "Two, two, two. Two? Two. Uh-uh, two. OK fine, one"), and it can be played in any language very easily (I've played it in Spanish with my family, in English with my friends, and bilingually with my parents and some family friends, all using the same deck of cards).

Pandemic and Disney Villainous are pretty big hits with our family

Always good to see Tsuro get a shout-out! It feels like you're building to a 10 Games to Play That Aren't Monopoly (But Scratch That Itch) List, and you should. And send it to Denise. A lot. Lords of Vegas, The Doom That Came to Atlantic City, Ticket to Ride... the options are awesome.

My go-to game for Christmas is the 1986 game Fireball Island. The main objective is to get to the middle of the 3D island, grab the jewel from Vul-Kar, and get off the island all while avoiding getting hit by fireballs. It’s a really underrated game that you should give a try. Restoration Games remade the game recently as well. The board is bigger than the original, it includes a spider’s nest and a sunken ship, and the main goal is to obtain as much treasure as possible.

I didn't realise I was such a gamer but I've played nearly every one on this list. Camel Up is amazing! Playing being really picky with what I'll actually buy, that is one is essential.

I bought Camel up years ago based off an older gaming video you did. It is one of my game groups favorite games! Happy to see it on this list.

I absolutely love FunEmployed. You get a group of people dedicated to role playing this game and you will never laugh harder in your life.

Clearing the table for some LCR never hurt no one. I've also tried to experiment with game (show) ideas, too, at Christmas and New Year's (including what LCR would be like as a game show). I'll have to see what else we've hung out with.

One more I'd recommend would be Machi Koro! It's a lovely little game of building a Japanese village by rolling dice, earning coins based on what you (or the other players) roll, spending those coins to build more buildings which let you earn more money, and the first person to build four "landmark" buildings wins! You can build your town any way you want depending on what strategy you think will work best for you, and you can even take money from the other players with some cards, so there's a little bit of "teeth" to it at times. Albeit maybe not enough for that one relative who subscribes to the Goodfellas/Monopoly philosophy of "F*ck you, pay me".

Some festive family favourites; Saboteur, Rhino Hero Super Battle, King of Tokyo and Flamme Rouge.

Monopoly? No thank you. Monopoly Street Fighter edition? Hells yeah!!!

I once played Colt Express. I want to point out the white character is called "Ghost" and the black character is called "Django". I was the white character. And my friend who playing black was constantly going for the same things I was. And everyone realized when the game was over, that the only character I ever attacked was black. And that's the story of how my racist tendencies in board games became a running joke.

Last year I broke out Railroad Ink at Christmas and it went down a treat. Still get asked every time I've visited throughout the year if I brought the little box with me.

I find that Chrononauts is a fun game when you have multiple players. The only problem with it is that if the players are good (or bad enough), the game can take a few hours to complete... especially if you include the expansion packs.

Always had a soft spot for Chrononauts, but my family would struggle with it. Get a bunch of SF fans involved, though, and you’re straight into Schrodinger’s Hitler time

I watched the Luke Owen video on Monopoly, and yes it uses the REAL RULES, and that game SUCKS. The whole point of the game is to suck, it's a parody game about how much capitalism sucks that is now the international beacon of capitalism...like all great satire.
