They're partially right, Sakura's build up was making her into a fan girl and she wasn't the best at fighting. Her fighting skills were pretty weak up until she battled Ino but then it was pretty weak again until her training with Tsunade. She was hardly capable of doing much while the show centered on Naruto and Sasuke.

Kishimoto never did justice to the female characters. Kakashi stated that Sakura has the potential to be the best genjutsu user but we barely see her using genjutsu.

How is Asuna from sword art online and sword art online 2 not on the list. She is an absolute badass with a sword who is willing to sacrifice herself for the people she loves. She isnt a pushover and in general kicks monster butt.

Oh she's a shitty character no doubt I hate her. From the annoying all about me attitude, to the bitching constantly, to her horrendously ear piercing dubbed voice. But she did have some moments of badassery, her quick thinking and plan formulating in episode 11, and her defeating all this mass production evas in End of Evangelion (until they came back and killed her lol). If you are up to date with the manga, she isn't useless anymore. In the last few fights she gains some new abilities that let her sort of hold her own ground, though in the last fight she has been arguably as usefull as Kakashi.

Sakura unfortunatly hasnt had a fight since Sasori cause Kishi hates his female characters. And i want to like Erza, but she like the rest of fairy tail never loses. Like every fight. On a last note, FUCK YEA HAWKEYE!

The characters in Fairy tail do lose fights. Just not all the time. I'm sorry if you think that starting an anime from when the characters first start out is the only way to go, but it's not. Fairy Tail started from a point where they were all very powerful (besides Lucy) because if it had started where they were kids, we would have had 2 orphans, a slave, and a reject as our main team. And they wouldn't know each other.

TheEternalCupcake I dont think you understand my problem with the series Every problem is solved by friendship..... All of them, and they never lose. Like the grand magical games arc in the manga (Spoilers). Sting has the 5 members of fairy tail in front of him and at this point he could just breath on them and they would fall over. AND he is in his prime, hasnt fought yet and is ready to kick ass with motivation of saving his friend (sigh) So what happens? "WE ARE FAIRY TAIL WE NEVER GIVE UP!" and Sting fucking gives up.............Like SERIOUSLY?

yulzan hidetora Really, this list isn't a list of popularity. It's a list of what is well known and mainstream. Now, I'm not saying that these characters are bad or that they shouldn't have been on this list. However, if you're here watching these lists for some glimmer of hope that Mojo will put one together where everyone can agree upon then I think you're wrong. Now, if like say they messed up where there was that one list where they showed Digimon footage when talking about Pokemon then yes, you've got every right to criticize. Other then that, if you have a problem with it then please try to open the masses up to other anime and try to influence the votes on the Mojo website.

Sakura is so underrated her character growth is absolutely phenomenal. They don't over-emphasis it. It's subtle yet dynamic.

Paragon Cosmo Sakura was always useless, they are trying to make people love her so much though. In the manga, she helps Naruto revive after a fight because she was the only one who could do such thing (not the other super powerful Shinobi around them).

If you guys were willing to put Hinata in the Honorable mentions, why even put Sakura at all? Tsunade at least is competent. And she's actually pretty badass at times unlike Sakura. I thought Rukia, Ryuko or Satsuki would get a mention but Damn.

Why does it matter? Some people prefer to be able to just watch and listen which is as much the original intent as the voice acting. And unless you actually speak Japanese you are still just getting an interpretation of what was said. Not mention some series have better voice acting in English. And there are some really bad Japanese dubs. Heck the guy that created Hellsing said he prefers the English dub.

Leon Evelake Well, you are right about the translation, but it's actually the original language I prefer. I've watched dubbed series in my native language, but it's horrible, I still prefer subs, just because it fits the show. It's not just in anime, it's also in tv-shows, I don't know, it just seems off when it is dubbed, and I learned English just by listening to shows and finding the translation in the subs, the same goes for Japanese, I don't speak it fluently, but I understand a lot.

Most Americans prefer to watch anime in English because they want to watch the show rather than the subtitles, and thoroughly learning the native languages of half a dozen countries just so they can enjoy anime is a major pain in the ass.

I'm really not a huge anime fan, Fate/Zero, Attack on Titan and Darker than Black are really the only ones I've really watched. (Evangelion really count? lol). But they have to be English Subbed. I hate Dubbed even as a non-hardcore Anime fan from America. lol

Where the fuck is Faye Valentine, one of the most well written, fleshed out, interesting, and badass female characters in anime ever, of all time. I've lost hope for WatchMojo anime lists.

Exactly what I was thinking. Faye Valentine is one of my favourite anime characters and Cowboy Bebop is my favourite anime ever, just above Samurai Champloo.

You pro-Sakura people have two really bad arguments. 1. Defeating sasori. Sasori was probably the easiest of the Akatsuki to kill, and if it weren't for Old Lady Chio she would have died very quickly. 2. Healing Gaara's brother (I can't remember his name). Just remember that if Lady Tsunade wasn't Being the Hokage, she could have healed him instead. And as an added mention, why wasn't Tsunade in the list instead of Sakura? She is infinitely more powerful, better looking, less annoying and useful.

Yeah, but he didn't do much in the fight against Chio and Sakura. He could have won in less than a minute if he used the poisonous sand metal stuff properly, but he didn't, fucked everything up, and died. I'd like to see Sakura fight and win against any other manner of the Akatsuki.

Why is Sakura on this list at all? 6:37 "Sakura hadn't only lost most of her childish tendencies, but she'd also become a capable, likable, and powerful character." Which are all not true lmao 1. Not only are her childish tendencies still around i.e. her undying love for Sasuke no matter what kind of conflict happened between them. She would talk about how useless she was, cry about it, recuperate from it, "grow" from it, and repeat the cycle. That shows how much she didn't grow as a character physically or mentally. 2. She was incapable of defeating a single foe while being the one standing in victory from a battle. Defending Naruto and Sasuke in the forest of death, Ino, (ended in a draw she didn't win that fight), Sakura needed the help of an old woman to defeat Sasori. 3. What makes her likable? She was rude and mean to Naruto when they were kids, calling him annoying to his face, shunning him, preferring Sasuke over anyone or anything else, punching Naruto in the face when he fucked up, cried a lot, begged Naruto for help when she was helpless(which was almost all of the time if not all of the time), always seemed to run into the danger risking her life knowing she couldn't do anything but either cry or be saved by the knight in shining armor, having a short temper, being loud and confident but having no ability to back up the attitude, honestly he list could go on for a long time. 4. She has a powerful chakra infused punch that is powerful enough to destroy large boulders and tough objects, great, yet she could never use it to win a 1v1 fight with an opponent, so yeah not very powerful or useful. so again, why is Sakura on this list at all?

+omgseriouslydude It actually is true. She is likable. She turned from my least favorite character into my 3rd favorite character. Between the part 1 and part 2. I hated her in part 1. She was totally useless. Except for a few scenes in the chunin exams. But part 2 Sakura is amazing. She one of the only people in the show that didn't have a special clan. She was a normal girl. But then at the end of the story she became the strongest kunoichi. Amazing. She is capable. She has saved multiple peoples lives including: Naruto 2x, Sasuke 2x, Kankuro, Hinata, 1000's of shinobi's, Chiyo, etc. She is powerful. She defeated Sasori, killed Fuen, killed impostor Neji, defeated Kaguya, defeated Shin, which at the time Naruto and Sasuke couldn't defeat him together, and she nearly killed him with 1 punch. So don't tell me she's not capable, likable, and powerful, because she is.

Awesome Aendeulyu I see. Card Captor Sakura never really made me interested. I probably would have watched it when I was younger; back when I used to watch the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha movies. Now...I just tend to watch the more serious things, those kind of movies/series more suited for mature audiences. Like _Monster_ or _Ghost in the Shell_. Seinen stuff.

This is a pretty bad list. None of the females from evangelion are on the list despite being some of the most complex characters in anime. Also Sailor moon is a surprising exclusion considering how influential shes been. Other notable exclusion are Saber from Fate Zero and Homura from Madoka Magica

As much as I love attack on titan, Mikasa is still a relatively new and slightly under developed anime chracter. (Attack on titan is only has 1 season so far and most of her character revolves around protecting eren) Im just pleased with her being on the list. (Side note: her character development in the manga dosnt count for this list)

I had my doubts with the first few but I quickly felt the hype! Mikasa and Riza totally deserve their spots!!

This has got to be one of the worst lists ever on Watchmojo, For number 10 and 9 I can't say much because I haven't seen those shows, but they seem like generic comedy characters. THen Revy only on number 8,Seras is ok,But FUCKING Sakura, she's still an annoying air headed bitch who only goes after Sasuke, even after the time skip she had 1 fucking battle against against Sasori, against which she won with absolutely no logic whatsoever, and after that she never did anything else. Erza is Ok on that position, but maka isn't that good of a character to be on that list. Kusanagi is also ok, the same as mikasa, which I still wouldn't have put that high. The Honorable mentions suck entirely except Yoko, but number 1 Riza Hawkeye?!? She doesn't even remotely deserve to be on that spot, What about characters like Claire or Teresa from CLaymore, Yoruichi from Bleach, Saber from Fate/Zero,Taiga from Toradora, Shana from Shakugan no Shana,Haruhi from Haruhi Suzumiya,Kagura from Gintama,Yuno Gasai from Mirai Nikki and many many more. The people who vote should widen their horizon.

Exactly - Revy is an awesome character who is relevant to the story and is actually useful. People say "oh Sakura is more useful now" - at least Revy has been useful since the start of the series and even now Sakura is still irrelevant to the plot of Naruto and she is still a despicable bitch who no one likes.

any anime which made it on that list is quite popular, i can't remember saying black lagoon isn't popular... But i guess, i didn't state myself clear. I meant any anime on the list, including honorable mentions. And I know that Sakura is hated among fans, but also loved by many. I don't agree with her ranking either btw. However, there are many anime which are way better (at least in my opinion) but smaller, and exactly these anime don't have a chance to make it into the top 10 or honorable mentions.

Sakura is useless, end of story, apart from the fight against Sasori, and that ONE punch she threw in the Great Ninja War when her forehead-thingy was awakened. Even in the final battle against ******** is she completely shoved to the sideline. **SPOILERS** - But Pika, she kept Naruto alive when the Nine-Tails was taken from him. - Yeah.... and then what did she contribute? Cuz after that, Obito asked her to destroy his Rinnegan so that Madara wouldn't get ahold of it, but nope, she just stood there, kunai in hand like a f***ing idiot and just stared at him, resulting in Madara getting the Rinnegan, effectively assuring the activation of the Infinite Tsukuyomi *claps in hands* well done Sakura, truly well done. Hinata may not have done a whole lot more than Sakura, but I am still a bigger Hinata fan who thinks that Naruto should get his head outta the f***ing clouds and realize that he is much too good for that b**ch to Sakura and go with Hinata. Besides, she's much cuter^_^

Dear Watchmojo.com, There's no way Sakura deserves #5 or to represent Naruto in this list. True, she has grown a lot, but she doesn't really live up much of what she says she'll do. She says she'll fight for Sasuke and never really does except for once, failing miserably. She's an interesting character to watch in the first series, but she does almost nothing important in Shippuuden other than help defeat Sasori. Hinata deserves #5 she's a much better character. Also, while Mikasa does deserve #2 two things: one, I hate to be a super nerd but you're pronouncing her name horribly wrong. It's "mi-KA-sa", not "mi-ka-SA." Two, she doesn't fight for those closest to her she fights to protect Eren it's the only reason she joined the military. No list is perfect, but that's a huge error in judgment whoever wrote that part of the list didn't do their homework. And in my opinion, Rukia from Bleach, Yoko from Gurren Lagann and Ryuko or Satsuki from Kill la Kill need to be on here but only 10 spots, there's too many badass ladies

Thanks for saving me from screaming at my computer (not really, but still...), it's evident that Watchmojo just randomly picked Sakura because she receives the most screen time amongst female characters in Naruto. I agree that Hinata should have been on the list instead, she represents the spirit of the Naruto anime/manga much more than Sakura does. I would have put Sakura in a "Top 10 annoying fictional characters list". She may have moved up a few spots from near number one to near number ten because of more recent plot developments, but she'd still be on that list, along with other characters like Jar Jar Binks and Navi.

Avis Argentea It was the Kakashi Anbu Arc that Kishi was going to do in the manga but didnt have enough time, so they made it anime only. Pretty much Sakura was put on the team because Naruto liked her and it would push him to train more to get her attention. I really hoped this part was made up by anime directors, but Kishi approved this so yeah

As soon as I saw Sakura, I instantly lost a few levels of respect for the list. Watch Mojo people it's very rarely that I feel someone should JUST not be in there. Sakura is one of the most hated characters in Naruto(Think of her as Skylar from Breaking Bad), I guess we have no logical reason to hate her right now, since she's a capable fighter but my god we still do. I mean a better choice would have been Tsunade(who in every sense is really just a better and more likeable Sakura) Hinata, fuck it I would prefered Ino tbh
