    This is why I'm subscribed to these people. Either way, this is a COMPLETE game changer. I can't imagine all the things that could be made with Grasshopper 3D 1 and Grasshopper 3D 2 with THESE features. Parametric design is going to have a game changing tool with Rhinoceros 8. I've been using Rhinoceros since the 5 edition. This company is PURE quality and delivery. Besides this is an essential tool for EVERYBODY. Parametric architecture will get more sophisticated with a tool like this making insanely hard things easy and exploration, fascinating. Thanks guys for such warmth welcome to the program Rhino 8. :D

    I knew there was some updates to the clipping planes, but I hadn't yet seen how to do it, or how easy it was. Really excited for the types of graphics that are now possible with them. Not to mention all the other great new features that have come with rhino 8. I'm looking forward to seeing how I can elevate my design modeling and process as I acclimate myself to the new Rhino and hopefully soon to be fully realsed GH2.

    In regard to selective clipping, this function does work in display modes in the viewport (Windows 10) but does not work for Raytracing or Vector Output (PDF). Based on my experience, I would say that this feature is currently a work in progress in Rhino 8. The feature unexpectedly now works better in Rhino 8 for Mac than in Rhino 8 for Windows.

    As a developer (I'm definitely not an architect or graphics pro), one of the features I really like is the ability to script using cpython. Probably kind of a niche thing, but figure I'd throw it out there for others who like using Python with Rhino.

    I'm a bit stuck on how the screen-capture and sketch-on-top-of-feature is performed at 25:32. Is that windows, or the recording software, because I see no command line change in rhino.

  • @HowtoRhino

    At 25:32 - I'm showing how to use Selective clipping feature. Regarding the sketch feature. I just selected the surface with ctrl+shift+select to active AutoCplane and then I typed "Sketch" in the command line, but it was done at 23:27 Every single command I do, you have a name of that command in the upper right corner of the window. Hope that helps.

    @@HowtoRhino Thanks for the response. I don't think this has anything to do with Rhino or the clipping feature. You just happened to be talking about that feature when you drew a window on top of Rhino, and a dotted box appears with control points on the corners and midway points like Adobe Indesign, with two tool bars appearing in the lower right corner to draw, type, change color, save, etc. I'm just curious if that was your screen-recording software or something in Windows 11 or what. I am on Windows 10 and am unfamiliar with this sketching-on-the-screen ability, and cant seem to find it with Googling or reverse image searching the little corner tool bars.

    Rhino still needs to catch up on proper surface modelling/ massaging tools like the ones alias has. Or anything close to the old VSR plugin or proper curvature analysis tools at least. So sad it was taken from rhino and they havent tried to replace it since Rhino 5

  • @AutomotiveCNC

    @AutomotiveCNC

    Yeah, NURBS surfacing tools are the most important thing in Rhino, yet they are still far from being competitive even compared to the very old VSR plug-in which came for Rhino 5 many years ago...

    The main thing we should focus on is the workflow of Rhino , which is very very old and falling behind , it does not make sense to type every command in the command line to start a command , this is very slow workflow , we should interduce an entire new system based on shortcuts/pie menus for rapid modeling/operating . Lets take a look at blender or plasticity , the workflow of plasticity is 10x times better than rhino even it's a new software , but it's a lot more faster and easier to work , i mean i love Rhino but if the ancient UI/button layout/workflow will stay the same i am afraid i am considering to buy plasticity even it does not have even half of Rhino features , but its developing rapidly and i really like where it's going . i mean don't get me wrong , i really love rhino and it has been a long time for me using it , but now it just feels falling behind other software , i would really appreciate a complete modernization of the software for a better slick UI and workflow , thank you again

    Yeah, I see your point. At the end of the day, you should look at all of these tools from your point of view and what you're using it for (depending on your industry). Take into account all the features including parametric design with Grasshopper. Rhino + Gh are huge platforms that other developers build on top, so the community is really big, sometimes that is also important. You can voice your opinion on all of these features on Rhino forum as well and talk directly with developers on these issues if you'd like them improved.

    Fillets are easy if you know how to handle them in a clever way. I agree with you that fillets in Rhino are not as fast as in Solidworks or Catia, but on the other hand Rhino's fillets are more reliable and you can actually do a lot of manual adjustment to them, which is not possible (or not as easy) on the other CAD packages.
