@@davids5980 Flo Jo was ahead of people for 1 season. Outside of that one season, Flo Jo doesn't have a single individual Gold Medal at a Major Championships. Only ONE individual medal AT ALL, Silver at the 1984 olympics 200. She went from 10.96 personal best in the 100 and a 21.96 personal best in the 200 to 10.49 and 21.34 in ONE OFF SEASON. That's a meteoric improvement that athletes simply DO NOT make naturally, especially, when you have been at the highest level for as long as she was before then. Also remember, Flo Jo ran in an era BEFORE out of competition drug testing was a thing. In other words, to cheat the system all you had to do was juice up and train in the off season and reap the benefits during the season while still testing clean She also immediately retired the VERY next year when Mandatory RANDOM drug testing was put into effect. If you were really clean, and you just became the faster woman to ever live, you literally have no reason to retire.

No, Flo Jo still holds the world record. She ran 10:54 in Seoul final but it was disallowed due to a supposed slight wind excess. So her 10:62 record was in one of her heats where she wasn't running as fast as she could. 10:54 is closer to where she was running at her best. Elaine is still not at that level yet.

FloJo was tested, multiple times, for everything they could think of to test for, and she was clean. She died 10 years after she was in the 1998 Olympics, not "shortly" after and died as a result of suffocation from a seizure disorder that she had. They even tested her again during the autopsy and she was still clean. And Elaine Thompson just broke that Olympic Record with a run of 10.61 seconds on 31 July 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics.

Queen Flo broke three Olympic sprint records both in the 100M and the 200M in just one Olympics! And with so much speed, flourish and ease..! And in a span of hours on each record! Wow! No one and nobody beat Queen Flo or broke her records... But Shelly Ann has been beaten several times - the most recent is in the 2016 O... Well when someone performs so much better than anyone else and especially when it stays that way even after 30 years... people find it hard to believe it was natural. When you compare the times that she ran in the 100m in 1988 alone, it's puzzling to see that she ran 10.49 with 0.0m/s wind while her other wind-aided (above 2.0m/s) races were slower. Also, not failing a drugs test does not mean that an athlete is clean. One great example that everyone knows is Lance Armstrong. Hope this helps you to understand a little as to why people are critical about Flojo's achievements. Nonetheless, she is an amazing athlete with incredible sprinting technique.
