He is pretty much the gold standard template of every redemption arc. The only one that comes close is Theon Greyjoy (whose path is shockingly similar if you think about it). You start out hating or at least disliking Zuko and then he becomes one of your favorite characters in the end...and unlike other redemption arcs, it is both believable and earned. It's very tricky combo.

My dude, I literally am taking notes. It's that impressive. I especially love the protagonist who feels guilt for a selfish action (running away) vs. an antagonist who feels guilt for a selfless action (speaking up in defense of the new recruits). What a perfect backstory set up. We can easily empathize with Aang for running away which makes it even easier to empathize with Zuko. I am also outlining my story backwards cause I freaking adore watching book one and seeing shit that will come back in books two and three.

It's sad because at the beach Azula had the one and only chance to live as a normal teenage girl (or try to) and she was genuinely trying to be a caring sister to Zuko. Like when Zuko went into their old vacation home and she found him and said "come on back down with us. This place is depressing." That's because it was depressing for Azula too. In the beginning Azula tried to bring up old, happy memories of their previous trips there, perhaps trying to convince Zuko and herself that they can still be a loving family. But then Zuko brings it back into reality by saying "that was a long time ago."

Was about to question your statement, but you're just absolutely right. There are so many scenes showcasing zuko's development over the series, especially the ones is season 2 with his journey with iroh to and inside ba sing se, even in times where it has no impact whatsoever on the current gaang storyline. We really do know as much about zuko as we know about aang.

I liked a lot, but if I have to say a few, it would be: - Zuko redirecting lightning at his father, Ozai. - Zuko learning that he's related to Avatar Roku.

Zuko is my favorite character and one of the show's best. He's already a strong warrior and quite intelligent, but he also goes through more emotional turmoil than anyone else. He has one of the best redemption stories to ever exist, and in the end he gets his happy ending.

He was still young when he truly found himself, this is how it should be but not as it usually is.

his voice actor captured his pain and inner turmoil in the "im angry with myself" scene so well. he doesnt sound angry, he sounds frustrated and broken, on the verge of tears as he says it and realizes that his current problems and anger are coming from within him. i love that scene so much.

Combustion man is actually pronounced "sparky sparky boom man"

"Wait, YOU'RE the one who sent Combustion Man after us??" "Well, that's not his name..." Not the best moment by a longshot but still a funny little awkward moment from the champion of awkward moments

Still to this date Zuko is one of my favorite characters in cartoon/anime. His story arc was so well written and didn't feel forced at all. At the end of the story you couldn't help to feel proud and happy with how the character ended.

i liked the scene where Zuko says "I once hired a man with similar abilities to kill the avatar myself once. didn't work though" This was in the legend of Korra book 3, after informing Eskna and Desna about a dangerous criminal locked away in the North Pole, and they all talk about past experiences as they go down a moving elevator.

Zuko saving Katara from Azula's lighting bolt gives me chills every time. Easily one of my favorite scenes.

Zuko speaking out against the General’s plans in the war meeting is something that’s criminally unnoticed. Standing up for soldiers who are considered expendable by everyone else in the room when he had nothing to gain from it is a sign of the man Iroh would be so proud of.

I just recently got into Avatar but straight from episode one, Zuko was my favourite character! I just love how dark and deep he is!

Personally, "Zuko Alone" is one of my favorite episodes of all time just because of the character development we see for him. Prior to the episode, we only really see Zuko as "The Banished Prince", with all the shame that the title carried. But in that one moment where he knew exactly what would happen after, he proudly stood up and proclaimed to the world, "I am Zuko, and you will not defeat me!" For me, that's where he started reclaiming his honor, when he stood up to the tyranny of those soldiers despite knowing that he, himself, would be called the tyrant and be met with only venom and disdain. Absolutely flawless episode.

#1: EVERY MOMENT WITH UNCLE IROH... they had it all, even the betrayal scene was great 👏

The most heartwarming moment was when Zuko apologizes to Iroh, expecting him to be mad and disappointed, but Iroh just embraces him. Tears just thinking about it.

Zuko's reunion with Iroh still makes me tear up to this day. Edit: my favourite part of the Zuko vs Azula fight (besides the epic music) is the look on Azula's face as Zuko is keeping even with her and actually beating her, all of her superiority is crumbling away as hard work overcomes natural talent.

"Maybe you'd like one to match!!!" is such an underrated line

Zuko’s back stories of how he got banished and his mother are so emotional and should have been in this top 10.

Zuko is perhaps one of the most well written character's in any show, movie, or story. His character arc is so amazing and satisfying to watch and re-watching the show now as a young adult in my 20s means so much more to me. This show will always have a special place in my heart

If Toph and Zuko met in LOK, she would be like: "You still owe me a life-changing field trip, Scarface..."

Zuko is one of my most favorite characters in this series. Netflix's live-action reboot series better do him justice.

The final agni kai is one of the best fights in animated history, and not just for the fight itself zuko and azulas entire rivalry builds up to that epic battle

I wholeheartedly agree with the number one pick. It’s great animation, the music is very fitting, the sound design is masterful, and the execution of the scene is brilliantly crafted.

I had such a crush on Zuko from the second season on. Pretty sure he began my weakness for boys with dark hair.

When Zuko ends up yelling towards the heavens during the storm, it hits me so hard! It's like, he's finally telling the world to strike him like it always does, but ironically it doesn't and Zuko STILL can't get his way. And the agonizing yell at the end of it is just heartbreaking because you feel all of his frustration, anger, and sadness. But this only makes his redemption arc feel even greater because he was this low. Going from constant anger and frustration to finally being at peace and have gained so much wisdom. Zuko is freakin' great!

My favorite line he speaks in the entire show was during his confrontation with Ozai "[you] challenged me, a 13 year old boy to an agni kai. How can you possibly justify a duel with a child? It was cruel and it was wrong" I get chills everytime. It's so satisfying watching Zuko finally understand what a monster his father really is.

My favoraite moment was when he rediected lightning from his father

Big props for starting off with that video of "That's rough buddy"

Even now, Zuko is still one of the greatest characters written that I have ever seen.

I think the best moment was Zuko confronting his dad and redirecting the lightning not to kill him. Because think about how difficult it would be to confront your dad, but your dad is also equivalent to a dictator.

The music for the fight with azula is so beautiful. There's no such thing as a perfect show. But avatar is the closest anything will ever get. The story. The character. The world building. Character arch. It's all just so amazing. It's a show you can watch with your kids and both enjoy. Truly Incredible.

I freaking loved the scene where Katara froze Azula.... MID lightening attack!

The greatest review for zuko's character was that he is aang's (roku's) grandson

It really made me mad when zuko saved them but then when he said who he is they all hate him now

We call it "padulo" = you help somebody at your own risk and you do not gain even a "Thanks". I hate this.

I just rewatch this series recently and still find his arc still amazing.

Zuko is a sweetheart and if he existed in real life I see him as a huge dog lover. Also that scene where reformed Zuko and Iroh hugged the army camp melts my heart every time.
