Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, Ben Rothlisberger, Larry Fitzgerald, Sean Taylor, Bob Sanders, Deangelo Hall, Vince Wilfork, Jared Allen, Steven Jackson, Michael Turner, Willie Parker, Wes Welker, Jason Peters and some lesser names like Matt Schaub, Chris Cooley, Shaun Phillips, Jonathan Vilma, Chris Snee, Nick Hardwick... 2016 was way deeper and stacked with talent. Look at just the first 9 picks: Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Joey Bosa, Zeke, Jalen Ramsey, Ronnie Stanley, DeForest Buckner, Jake Conklin, Leonard Floyd. All from solid starters to very good and the list goes on. Laremy Tunsil, Keanu Neal, Jaylon Smith, Hunter Henry, Myles Jack, Chris Jones, Xavien Howard, Derrick Henry, Michael Thomas, Deion Jones (maybe greatest 2nd round ever), Kevin Byard, Yannick Ngakoue, Justin Simmons, Blake Martinez, Dak Prescott, Matt Judon, Jordan Howard, Tyreek Hill. If this class continues their play at this level, it will be one of the greatest ever.

Spider Man That’s not my point. I was arguing you can’t predict greatness in the league except for generational guys. Russel was a really hyped prospect but completely flopped whereas I compared him to Brady who was a nobody with little to no athleticism or true talent (he proves that leadership and competitiveness are what makes a great player). You can’t blame a team for taking the consensus number one that turned out to be a bust over guys that weren’t supposed to be generational talents it’s just not fair.

Spider Man You just created a different argument. My comment was about the pick of Jamarcus Russell. You can’t blame them for taking him he was a great player and they needed a qb. What the original guys comment was doing was listing every player that turned out well in the draft but none were a sensible pick for them to make at one. They made the right choice and it flopped

I'd have found a spot on this list for 2012. That draft produced an insane 36 pro-bowlers, and if you include UDFA + supplemental draft, it's 42 pro-bowlers. There's only 3-4 "no-doubt" HoFers, but in terms of teams walking away from the draft feeling pretty good about what they got, it's way up there.

  • @Gungho73

I think going forward it'll be on a updated list. Chandler jones a couple good-decent seasons from jumping into the top 20 sack leaders all time. Fletcher Cox, undeniable lynch pin for the Eagles during 2 title runs. Decastro in Pittsburgh helped keep Big Ben upright during some of his best offensive seasons. Harrison Smith really good for Minnesota at S. Gilmore is a DPOY recipient, marking 2 in the class. Luke Keuchly and Bobby Wagner were/are the preeminent MLBs of their generation. Russell Wilson it really depends going forward due to this last season. I think everyone expected his trajectory to continue along the same path or go upward to solidify his chances. 6/11 QB's got to one Pro Bowl, meaning at some point they had established a level of play notable to the public. Maybe only one of them is a HOF, but that pro bowl fact is really neat considering there are some ugly QB years in draft history. Johnny Hekker AND Justin Tucker are special teamer reps in this class. 39 pro bowlers from the class I count now unless I miscounted. There's not a lot of HOF like you said, but theres a ton of good players here who made a difference for their squad at one point or another.

Any player who is ELIGIBLE for draft in a certain year - the year they graduate from college or declare themselves eligible for the draft - by definition make them part of said draft class. Otherwise dozens of UFAs every year who make a team - some who go on to HOF careers - like Kurt Warner - would have no year they fall under. That would be stupid & illogical.

@Fries I firmly agree that there should be a list of worst NFL draft years. 2009 would be even worse than 1992, and those two are quite clearly the worst drafts of the common draft era. If we combine the regular and supplemental drafts for 1984, all but one other draft class since 1967 has combined for at least eleven First Team All-Pro appearances, yet 2009 has had just six and 1992 just eight. Although the 2009 draft class is not yet fully retired, it produced only two potential Hall of Famers in Matthew Stafford and Alex Mack, neither of whom is anywhere near a lock-in. 1992 has had no Hall of Famer, and even its best players - Jimmy Smith and Darren Woodson - are invariably viewed as longshots for the Hall. In fairness, free agency may have seriously affected the development of the 1992 class, as several of its best players, including Smith who is ranked as its best by Pro Football Reference, did not develop until after the 1995 expansion. Apart from the definite first two of 2009 and 1992: 1976 also had only six First Team All-Pro nominating by five players, but had five Hall of Famers and of its twenty Pro Bowl players, five made at least six Pro Bowls, so it probably is doubtful here. 1966 also saw just five All-Pro players, though it did contain two undrafted stars in Emmitt Thomas and Jim Hart (Pro Football Reference rates Hart the best player from 1966, although he never made First Team All-Pro). It would certainly be in a list of worst draft years ever, even (or especially depending on perspective) with two of the three best players available (Thomas, Hart, offensive guard Tom Mack) passed by two separate drafts. 1972 (22:53) contained only two Hall of Famers - one of whom, Cliff Branch, is being inducted this year - and just 13 All-Pro First Team nominations 1977 had only one Hall of Famer in Tony Dorsett and nobody else with any prospect of reaching the Hall, although it had 19 first Team All-Pro nominations 1986 had only one Hall of Famer in fourth-rounder Charles Haley, only one other player in Leslie OʼNeal who seems likely to make Canton in the future, and only fourteen First-Team All-Pro selections 1999 had only twelve first-team All-Pro selections, although it has two Hall of Famers and Donovan McNabb (who never made a first team All-Pro) may be on the road to Canton. 2002 is often thought of as a terrible draft because of several bad busts, but despite only eight First Team All-Pro players (for seventeen nominations) and only 20 Pro Bowl players (the fewest of any draft since before 1984) it has one Hall of Famer in Ed Reed, and another certain Hall of Famer in Julius Peppers.

I know they showed Ryan Kerrigan during the 2011 draft segment, but he didn't get an actual mention. He's a very underrated draft day hit. He's been the epitome of consistency since he's been in the league, never missed a game, and he's never put up less than 7.5 sacks in a season. And he had to adjust to a new position. He went from playing mainly as a DE in college, to being a full-time LB in the NFL.

Funfact: The other draft with two HoFers in the first round by the same team was the year before. The Jets fans wanted Warren Sapp with the No.9 selection, but instead they drafted Kyle Brady. After Brady was gone Browns HC Bill Belichick, who wanted to take (another) Brady, traded down with the (I believe) 49ers to 30 for a 1st rounder in 1996. He wanted to take a LB there and couldn't decide between two prospects: Craig Powell (which they took) and Derrick Brooks, who was selected two picks before Powell by Tampa Bay with their second 1st rounder after Warren Sapp. So Cleveland missed out on two HoFers 1995, lost its football team to Baltimore and the Ravens drafted two HoFers with the picks Cleveland provided the year before.

A couple of points about 1983. The draft made the 1985 Bears team. Also, Todd Blackledge, Ken O'Brien and Tony "Champaign" Eason were all taken before Marino, with Blackledge at 7. The draft was absolutely loaded with quarterbacks.

2012 might make it up there. Luck is a borderline candidate, but Wilson may have already done enough to get in. Luke Kuechly looks good to make it. Other potential HOF guys would be Matt Kahil, Fletcher Cox, Stephon Gilmore, David Decastro, Dont'a Hightower, Harrison Smith, Bobbie Wagner, TY Hilton, Josh Norman, Danny Trevathan. Heck, even honorable mentions could go to Nick Foles, Olivier Vernon, Kirk Cousins, Lavonte David, Alshon Jeffery, Janoris Jenkins, and Kevin Zeitler. I think we could find 6 to 8 HOF players in that list.

Okay I just have to say this: Eli Manning deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Here's why: He has 4 pro bowls, which isn't a ton considering other qbs, yet above average. He has 2 super bowl rings, and 2 super bowl mvps. He in fact was instrumental in the Giants wins over the Patriots in both bowls. He had not had a losing season before 2013, although he did go 8-8 one year. Age caught up with him eventually but he did help win. He had played in 210 consecutive games before being benched and durability is an important trait for qbs. Can't be great if you're never healthy enough to be. He is in the top 10 in both career yards and touchdowns, and while he is interception prone so was Favre and yet that won't be held against him. Eli has had defenses bail him out, although the same can be said for Rivers, Bradshaw, and McNair. The Giants have been around 90 years and Manning is the best Offensive player to ever play, With Barber or Simms in a distant second. And when regarding his postseason success, he did win a super bowl without his best reciever. Also lets not forget many would say Eli is more clutch than Peyton due to his ability to play up to a situation. He should not be faulted just because he wasn't the best qb in his draft, because if you look at his stats and not how we've judged him as a player that is "shockingly" losing to Father Time, you see a player that is disrespected due to our idea of how he should be playing.

The impressive aspect is the 11 SB starts.

It's remembered for QB's but it also had some great DE's. Charles Mann, Richard Dent, and Leonard Hamilton had 6 SB rings in all.

Weird part was that all those first round QB went to AFC. They dominated that conference, but the NFC always had better teams for next 14 years.

It’s kind of unfair to mention the drafts before the common era(1967) without including the AFL Drafts along with the NFL Drafts. Ex. Joe Namaith 1965 AFL Draft.

2:43, it wasn't really rare for a QB to not go #1 at the time, though. Between 70-97, a QB was taken #1 overall only 8 times. Since Peyton Manning was taken 1st in 98, a QB has gone #1 the majority of the time. But before that,. only 8 times in 28 drafts.

@@masonthewarriorful 1996 is generally regarded as one of the worst QB draft classes of all time. Only four of eight drafted quarterbacks ever threw a pass in the NFL, and none made so much as a Pro Bowl. The best quarterback from 1996 - Jon Kitna - was not even drafted and may be remembered unfortunately as the main starting quarterback for the 0-16 2008 Detroit Lions. 2007 - also listed here - was by Pro Football Reference alongside 2013 and 1966 (though the latter is redeemed by undrafted Jim Hart) the worst quarterback draft year since 1961.

Every four years or so, there's an excellent draft class. 2014 is a class to look out for.

Cam Newton a HOFer?? Thats a bit early to say for a guy who has no rings and only one Super Bowl appearance and seems to be in decline already.
