Well actually it made some sense. Joey had never been really in love, so he developed a crush on Rachel. And Rachel was always a spoiled woman who felt attracted to relationships without future, like when she dated his secretary. They weren't made for each other but there was an attraction.

Maybe all the trips to London, Tulsa, etc. were hallucinations. Though that doesn’t explain Monica and Chandler adopting twins. Also, people don’t stay in psych wards for several years at a time, thanks to antidepressants and antipsychotics, which most certainly were available in the 1990’s.

Ross and Rachel were both terrible for each other. Being terrible with relationships is why they deserved each other - as a karmic punishment.

The affair theory I heard from somewhere was that Jack had the affair and got custody and that's why Judy treated Monica like she did.

I REALLY disliked Monica's parents, although her father a little less so. At least he checked on her after she and Richard broke up when she was really depressed and that was sweet. Her mom, however, was HORRID!

@@aditibhindwal8978 I literally cringed at that…but…that theory (thankfully) falls short as her parents did begin to save up for a wedding between the two before they split (& her parents then spent it). Otherwise yuck 🤢 that’s some out of the box thinking tho. On the subject tho I to disliked Judy’s treatment of her daughter (played very well and convincingly by the actress), at jack was nicer…tho oblivious to the mistreatment.

My fan theory: Carol, not Rachel, was the love of Ross’s life. He wasn’t completely got over her when his high school crush came back in to the picture. This explains why Ross has such a hard time trusting anyone and why he always feels the need to be in a relationship. He even blames himself for Carol turning lesbian; that is, he thinks he’s such a bad lover that he turned Carol off not just to him, but men in general.

While I think it would’ve been nice if Joey and Phoebe got together, I think it was good that they kept one of the female and male relationships platonic.

The theory about Monica being the result of an affair hits so hard and explains so much! Looking back, Judy was outright horrid and rude to Monica! I mean, she even made a term about her when someone makes a mistake! "Pulling a Monica"?! Yeah, "mother of the year" right there! At least Jack was more of a decent parent to Monica, despite somewhat favoring Ross. I mean, he checked in on Monica after she broke up with Richard, felt genuine remorse for damaging the boxes of her childhood, and GAVE HER A FREAKING PORSCHE! I can see why Monica and Chandler named their son Jack.

There should be a theory where Ursula killed Phoebe and stood for her, in revenge for sabotaging her marriage. That explains why the first seasons phoebe was sweet, and the last seasons she was meaner.

I mean, thanks to Rachel, Ben already knew the word “crap”… and I really don’t think Carol was the kind of person to do that to Ross. I just think he still saw Ben, but they never mentioned it A bit like when Joey’s sister was pregnant & he was excited to be an uncle. One of my theories is that phoebe is psychic. There are a few reasons, but the main reason is because in one of the episodes they go around and see what everyone is thinking and Joey is humming in is head. And then phoebe said in her head. “ who’s humming”. Another’s reason is she just magically learned how to speak Italian and why she believes in so many things.

I believe Phoebe being a secret genius because Lisa Kudrow who played her has a bachelor's degree in Biology.

I think with the Monica incident it was the opposite and she was Jack Gellar’s child from an affair and that is why Judy refers to Monica as Jack’s daughter (like when she and Richard reveal that they are dating) and that is why she doesn’t like Monica, because she takes her anger out on Jack cheating and Monica

Monica's Dad seems to be the parent that really loves her so if anything, Judy Gellar isn't Monica's mother, and that's why she treats her so badly.

I love some of these theories , but some of them are really crazy

Phoebe is a blood relative of a Diwata (a goddess). Thats why she slipped that she is a puppet master of the group, she can remember her past life, and is very different than the others in the group. She understands things that we cannot see, loves the animals and is very spiritual.

The theory of Rachel dreaming the whole thing is just the same laziest theory we have all heard about a character that was in a bad situation in the beginning of a series.

10:11 Wait wait wait. Is it possible that Monica's father was RICHARD? EDIT: Now that I think of it, Judy did suggest that Richard's son get together with Monica. Somehow, I doubt she would have favoured incest between Monica and her half-brother.

All these theories are ludicrous except Phoebe and Joey. That, that one I love.

Phoebe must've been an undercover agent/ spy. It all adds up. She knows so many inside things, and never chooses to draw suspicion by 'playing dumb'.

Janice's first baby is actually chandler bc they slept together and broke up in the one with the candy heart and yet she's pregnant in the one where heckles died. That seems just about almost 7 to 8 months in between

Yeah, the theory that they were all in an institution made the show make so much more sense! It put their common hangouts into perspective, as well as all the crazy bit characters that made appearances (like Erica or crazy roommate Eddie).

I actually thought that Monica was the prettiest but hen again all 3 women were gorgeous! Phoebe was most def a secret genius!

It would have been awesome if the friends reunion was like Ross recapping the finale as if he was telling the story to the others showing that the whole series truly was a flashback of them telling stories to eachother

The most clichéd fan theory for any show or movie: the main character dreamed the whole story. 😑

The mental hospital thing is the STUPIDEST thing I’ve ever heard...

Joey reverts his mind into a young mindset. To heal and cope with life and his traumas. As you can from the facts below. (Joey comes from an Italian-American family of eight children, of which he is the only male. He is from, and presumably born in, Queens. As a child, he was extremely accident prone. In "The One With Ross' New Girlfriend", it's implied that he was sexually abused as a child by a tailor, but did not realize this until Chandler went to the same place years later. As a child, he had an imaginary friend named Maurice, who was a space cowboy.) Joey often had high intelligence and wise words for his friends when they were in stressful situations. A lot of people become sex addicted after sexual trauma. (He also has a soft toy penguin named Huggsy (his "bedtime penguin pal"), which he is very fond of and does not like to share with others.) He had a stuffed animal which a lot of people do that revert into a childlike mindset.

Let's push that #1 theory further the laugh track are the kids of the friends or some other relatives laughing while they tell the stories 🤣🤣🤣

The Joey Phoebe theory is the only theory I heard of

the joey and phoebe thing wouldve been sooo good!!! but I see why the writers wouldn’t have liked it because we were already hoping that Ross and Rachel would get together and Chandler and Monica were all lovey-dovey and stuff so it would just end up being too much I feel like.

Number 9 would be an explanation for the fact that in the episode where they play football there's a woman who claims she's dutch while she obviously isn't. I'm dutch, I would know. She looks kinda Russian, her accent sounds nothing like a dutch accent and she can't even pronounce her own name correctly. But she's just a patient who thinks she's dutch! Makes total sense.

I like fan theories that explain the characters' unlimited budget and their ability to live in New York like they do. I like to imagine that all the characters are trust fund babies who can do pretty much whatever they want. It takes a lot more than just rent control to live in New York like they do and be able to afford to.

I mean Ross and Monica do come from money. So does Rachel. Only Joey and Phoebe are the poor ones. Even Chandler saves his money and has a high paying job. So yeah they are mostly trustfund/really good job+savings with Joey and Phoebe being the broke ones.

The theories about dreaming or living in a psych ward are just lazy and not based on actual evidence. You can find them about nearly every TV series out there. A plausible theory would be that: Rachel tricked Ross into getting her pregnant. In The One With All The Birthdays (season 7) she was planning her future regarding marriage and family, and concluded that she should already be with the man she would marry, so she didn't have much time left. Maybe later on she decided to have a baby before getting married and chose Ross to be the father because of their potential to get back together and because she knew that he would never abandon them (like Janice warned her). Also: Monika having fertility issues due to consuming big amounts of macolate. Or Phoebe being a psychopath (remember when she and Joey were planning to get Chandler & Monica's money and Rachel's beautiful babies?).

And a theory I came up with myself: Monica had been in love with Chandler from the day she met him at the Thanksgiving dinner (and Chandler with Monica when he saw her transformation the next Thanksgiving), and when they came close in London they simply expressed their true feelings. This might also explain why Chandler was hitting on Monica while they were at the beach house a year before (which could have been foreshadowing).

God, theory number one is aging so well that "Friends: The Reunion" is here..

So, the number one craziest "Friends" fan theory is that it's like How I Met Your Mother?

MsMojo, I’m sorry this is super long. The psych ward theory makes no sense because Phoebe and Ross don’t live in the same building as Rachel, Monica, Joey, and Chandler; Joey can cook [ex. 1. He made spaghetti sauce to deal with his anger, sadness, and disappointment about his dad’s cheating and 2. In another episode when Joey mentioned “Naked Thursdays” to Chandler, he said that he cooks (** are my paraphrase marks) *oatmeal, toast, and stuff that doesn’t splatter*)]; I think Phoebe is a “laid back genius” because she picked up French and Italian from when she lived with a guy *who cleaned windshields outside port authority*; that’s a heck of a long dream; Ross and Monica are neurotic because he needs to keep himself on a pedestal and Monica is trying to get in their parents’ good graces, respectively; and thinking it’s one giant flashback upon their lives in their twenties is the only theory that makes a little sense.

“Monica’s real dad isn’t Jack Geller”. To add to that theory, Richard was the father and yet said nothing 🤮

There's one good fan theory that I read about the disappearance of Ben in later seasons. Ross antics in the show make Carol and Susan believe that he isn't a good parent anymore for Ben and decide to take full custody of him, which is why we never see him in the show again because Ross is no longer allowed to see him.

Woah, #2 actually makes sense. #1 is basically "Friends is HIMYM". It's not elegant, it's just boring.

I personally love the idea of Phoebe and Joey together. I think that would have gone really well. I mean with everyone else in the group getting together would naturally cause them to at least THINK about it. And given their chemistry it would make sense. Not to mention Joey finally finding someone to love would have been so satisfying in terms of story.

The psych ward theory is AWESOME. I'll one-up it and suggest that they are the split personalities of just one person. 🤔

The number one theory would explain plot holes and continuity errors but wouldn’t explain actual flashback episodes like the one with the invitation

I kind of agree with the no. 1 theory, I noticed why all the episodes are titled with "The one with/where/at/that/after etc." but I never really questioned it why, it kinda make sense because you can't say those words in a conversation unless you are recalling something or talking about the past. Edit: I have another one, Joey's soap opera show with the title "Days of our lives" is kind of a hint about the no. 1 theory which made more sense if you think about it

THE JOEY AND PHOEBE THEORY MAKES SO MUCH SENSE

Phoebe was A CEO of a company in alternative reality , it's showed us that she is very smart , confident and ambitious also it's show us that she intentionally focus on her mental freedom , physical health , following her moral values , having family , caring about her friends , showing people good manners and keep being open compassionate person instead of caring about having successful career , owning objectives or bullying people around to do her orders

I think no.1 is basically himym but longer and almost everybody in the group kisses everybody else in the group, and with less inspirational quotes and songs playing in the background.

One more theory I think is true is Phoebe was in love with Chandler. OR She literally hated monica and chandler relationship.... She always tried to screw it up. She even sometimes can be seen flirting with chandler .. like during One with proposal, and she also (what I felt) always brought monica in trouble.. Like leading her telling chandler she met richard , when monica tried to shake hand for an interview prep of rachel with her , she also made fun of her saying, I am worried about Chandler..

Theory number 1 can be had for literally every TV program.

Another theory I have: Carol always knew she was a lesbian, but married Ross to try to act “normal” and not disappoint her family. She soon decided to eventually come out when she was comfortable with her affair with Susan. Even though she didn’t love Ross fully, she still wanted a child. So, I believe instead of sleeping with Ross when they were divorcing, she secretly steals his sperm and gets artificially inseminated. Susan is the one that convinces her to do it. That’s why they treated Ross as if he was a sperm donor, and so adamant about raising Ben as a couple.

Honestly no because Carol has expressed how much she loves Ross even after she broke up with him (at the restaurant when he's on a date with another woman). They obviously have a deep love for each other, Carol just persuaded herself there also was a sexual attraction because she loved him so much, but that's the thing, the physical isn't there for her. That's why she still can't "try things again" with Ross still

That’s interesting. What made you come up with that theory.

One fan theory I have come up with involves the events of the last one. Ross created the last several moments in his head as he and Phoebe are heading back to meet his new niblings. They didn't make it in time and learned the plane already left before Ross could stop her. TLDR; Rachel did not get off the plane and what the viewers sees is a lovesick fantasy.

So the stupid writers didn’t go for the Joey and Phoebe thing, but they decided to write in the Joey and Rachel thing? 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ wow.

I don't know if someone already thought of this, but maybe Phoebe is a deep cover operative. She pretends to be ditsy, but really is a puppet master. Her time dating the diplomat might have been an op. Meanwhile she's preparing Mike for his journey to becoming Ant Man.

Well, I believe why they call all episoded as "the one with, etc" is if you were around other people talking about Friends and trying to remember an episode in a show and you can't remember the name, then you would normally say, "you know that one? The one with...?" Dumb article sorry Ms Mojo

Joey can cook. He was making sauce from scratch when he found out his father was cheating on his mom.

Number one is a good excuse for explaining away some of the continuity errors.

"Monica is a chef, and makes good money as such." Do you KNOW how little chefs make? I made 1500 a month as a chef. I made over 2200 as a kindergarten assistant. Unless you're a celebrity chef, you do not make money in the kitchen. The pay is absolutely atrociously bad.

The only theory that makes sense and has more evidence to back it up is the one that Phoebe is a genius. The other ones don’t have any evidence to back it up especially the one with Monica not being Jack’s daughter. It would make more sense if Monica was adopted.
