Am I crazy for sometimes looking forward to the AFC/NFC championship games more than the Super Bowl? I feel like rivalries are born within a conference during the playoffs, so when two rival teams meet in a clash for the right to make it to The Big Game, things seem more intense (49ers/Giants, Chiefs/Bengals, Patriots/Steelers to name a few great championship game matchups) 🔥

Peyton vs TB12 happened five times in the NFL playoffs, all in the AFC Championship game. Brady won both of the first two matchups, both in Foxborough, before Peyton won all of the following three (in Indianapolis the first time, in Denver the other two). Only the first time Peyton won over Brady while with the Broncos didn't end in a Super Bowl win (because the Broncos got off to a really bad start against the Legion of Boom and never recovered).

7:40. Its a shame when the colts steelers game for 95 gets mentioned, it usually only shows the last play of the game. The play where the steelers corner stopped the running back on 3rd down that wouldve sealed it for indy. The almost int by O'Donnell on their last drive that easily wouldve been ran back for a td. 4th and 3 for the steelers just like the year before when they were upset by the chargers. The big throw to the 1 to take the lead. Then the colts final drive with less than a minute left to make that hail mary possible. What a game

The first game called "Super Bowl" was the fourth and final exhibition game between the AFL champion Chiefs and NFL champion Vikings. Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt coined the term. Technically the Ice Bowl was the NFL championship game, not the NFC championship game; the next game was the NFL-AFL championship game; the two leagues did not officially merge until 1970. I would add the 1972 Redskins 26-3 victory over the Dallas Cowboys to the honorable mentions list: true, it was not a close game, but the Redskins prevented the Cowboys from going to the Super Bowl for a third straight year and it was George Allen's finest moment.

The ice bowl gives me physical pain just watching it. They didn't have fabrics that held heat like now. Those uniforms were not made to keep you warm. Even under they wore what amounted to cheap cotton long johns that were as thin as possible to retain as much range of motion as possible. That wasnt grass, that was frozen ice spikes sticking up like nails on ground that is as hard as a frozen pond, but even worse because the texture scraped you, not just on bare skin, but every part of your body that touched it. With those clothes, -14 F would legit feel like you were standing naked in 5/10 degrees. Except your hands, they felt every drop of -14. Id be suprised if half a cup of blood pumped through each hand during the entire game. They didn't even feel apart of your body. Was like stalingrad for half a day.
