I almost broke my finger hitting the like button because you killed me softly. Perfume is supposed to be worn to enjoy the perfume as you, the wearer. To wear perfume specifically to get compliments is to be motivated by the collective shadow. I literally don’t want compliments from a society that truly believes that Baccarat Rouge 540, Black Opium, La Vie Est Belle and Pink Sugar smell good/pleasing to the senses. Thanks, but I’m going to keep smelling like a fresh timeless, elegant legend without the acceptance and accolades from a society rife with cliff-jumping lemmings.

I do not understand the attraction to the cotton candy smelling fragrances. Every middle school classroom has that 12 y /o with full makeup, highlighted hair, fake nails, and a cotton candy fragrance. Mixed with the Axe that the boys put on after PE, the odor is eye-watering.

In fact from time to time I get comments from people asking me why I am not reviewing more perfumes or why I am not reviewing new perfume releases each week. The answer is because I do not over consume. I love to discover a perfume first. I love to give the perfume time to talk to me first before I fall in love with it. I do have quite a few perfumes but they have been collected throughout the years and I never give them away once they have found a place in my heart. 💖🥰

I haven't found your time-travel video yet. I love your 'wear your perfume for yourself '. My Nana smelled like Chanel No 5, burnt toast and sunlight bar soap. I can conjure her up with that memory. My Grannie smelled like Muget du Bois. I have grandchildren. I wanted to have my oen Nana fragrance so they'd be comforted by my scent. I loved the old Tresor, but not now. Now my comforting, snuggly, book reading in my lap scent is Chanel Beige.

I'm relatively new to wearing fragrance so I'm still finding my personal taste/style. And part of that is understanding the effect that different scents have on those around me. I take a similar view to fragrance as I do my physical appearance. Ultimately, I dress for myself, and over about the last 35 or so years of being old enough to dress myself, I have developed a fairly unique style taken from my inspirations. And part of my confidence comes from knowing myself and that's connected to understanding what I am projecting to others. So ultimately my style is not everyone's cup of tea but when it does strick a cord with someone and I get a compliment.......I love it!! Because having someone appreciate my personal expression is affirming. I'd like to get to the point where my fragrance choices are as, refined and aligned to my current very curated clothing and makeup esthetic. So yes, I do, generally want to know what others think are "good" fragrances. I can then try them and make my own decision if it suits. Spoiler alert, they usually don't, but it gives me a frame of reference. It's also why I watch many different perfume content providers so I can get multiple reference points. BTW I love this channel!!!

Loved your take on this topic. I was thinking of Tanya Sanchez in one of her books with Luca Turin describing the type of perfume effective for modern mating rituals as being a scent that can cut through the piss and beer and scent of your competition and get you noticed. 😂 She also had an anecdote of men using nuclear "panty dropper" colognes and mistaking the reactions of shock and horror for attraction.

What a beautiful video today...❤ You always have the right words! My favourite non compliment fragrance is Shalimar that absolutely stinks on me according to...well ... everyone...but I just can't live without it, and I only wear it at home, for me myself and I!😅 This is my number one all time favourite perfume, and I literally had to tame it to get accepted and trusted after decades of trying. In the past, I would just give up and give the bottle to my mom who's crazy about it. But, since I got older, and I eventually began to understand the fragrance, and that I stopped seeing it only as a "bestseller", but as a wild animal that has a soul, I changed my way of treating it. I only spray a few drops on particular places, I don't spray it all over me like a cheap thing anymore, and, I definitely get a pay back, like, it's talking to me, it's whispering me something...and the magic begins! My skin is telling me a very different story now that has nothing to do with the smell on it's own. I can't really describe it with words...I just wish everybody had the same experience... I knew it! We can always count on you, Dacob, that you will take the elevated road on this topic. Another - and probably your best one yet - poetic dissertation on finding the scent for YOU and not for anyone else. Such powerful and important messages that I will go back to, time and time again. We are all broken and we wear the fragrance that melds with us seamlessly and mends our imperfections like that gold dust or lacquer in the art of kintsugi.

Nothing make me feel more powerful, classy and feminine than my No5 Le parfum. Everybody seem to think that is a "grandma" smell. For me, its the smell of power. I wear it for me, during the day at home or at night, just because it makes me feel good in my skin. Its like it put my fear away. Maybe because it was my grandma's favorite ? But it doesnt smell the same on me, and its perfect like that👌🏻.

i have to say, i have long side eyed all these perfume related channels and influencers who can’t seem to go a single day without MULTIPLE people telling them how good they smell. Like does that really happen? i’ve maybe had one or two ppl compliment me unasked and they were friends I was hugging goodbye who liked my perfume… what world does one live in where everyday hordes of people can’t stop telling you how good you smell? you’re either lying or you absolutely douse yourself in enough scent to choke out a cow and they are trying to be polite and tell you to cut it out 😂

I super love this one! It’s true! Perfumes co-exists with us. It is US! and The best compliment is the compliment that you can give YOURSELF. 🎉 I do believe in SELF LOVE and SELF ACCEPTANCE. Rive Gauche is in excellent condition, I have smelt well preserved vintages and I can't fault the reformulation. It was also done by Daniela Andrier whose own creations are worth having.

I know a few. Fragrance lovers who loathe the current formulation of rive gauche. I personally love it. Its salty trail mixed in with wonderful cold aldehydic white florals makes me happy 🥰

@essence-tiallydacob9611 it is certainly a moving perfume. The metallic character which is probably the coldness you describe comes from rose oxide in combination with geranium like materials in the rose accord, as well as green notes. With the aldehydes, it is a jarring combination.

Perfume it’s an art. Some people get it, some people don’t.

Roses are wonderful flowers that should be enjoyed by all genders. They are too beautiful not to be 💖

I always enjoy Madame Grès, for my personal pleasure. I was surprised by numbers of complement I get every time I'm wearing it. On the others side, I have perfumes that I'm keeping just for myself, glass of wine and my emotional moments.
