Brotherhood's End should be a 4-of in many decks post rotation. It's surprising it's not even more popular now than it is, thanks alone to the synthesizer deck, and also aggro. It definitely stands to get better...er.

Yes. I think if artifacts ever becomes a successful deck, Brotherhoods End will rise in popularity. Also losing Burn Down the House. For decks without access to white, probably their best option. Maybe Ill-Timed Explosion sees more play as well.

Invasion of Zendikar gets even better due to now being your most reliable way to ramp without Topiary Stomper. Also this is a bit of a prediction but it seems like we'll get Izzet prowess otters in Bloomburrow so Swiftspear, Codebreaker and Slickshot will get at least a new friend.

  • @51gunner

We've already got Elusive Otter to add to that as well. I tried building Izzet Prowess around WOE - Elusive Otter hits like an absolute TRUCK on turn 2 if you throw a Monstrous Rage at it. 5/3 that can't be blocked by anything with lesser power (so anything T2 really) is going to get in for some pain. I found that the lack of enemy-color fastlands could be an issue, and OTJ fixed that. I'm not sure if it's worth playing into Temur to have access to the otter's adventure & maybe stuff like Snakeskin Veil (or Royal Treatment?) & Pick Your Poison or just staying in Izzet. I'd looked at Frolicking Familiar & Balmor, Battlemage Captain for some other Izzet toys. Familiar is cute but I'm not sure it makes the cut. Balmor's cool too.

I'd be more keen to try either Omenpath Journey or Map the Frontier as 4-mana ramp. The absence of Topiary Stomper makes Invasion a bit worse because you probably don't have a means of flipping it right away. And without that, I think the other options have more upside.

Ive been loving a Desert Domain Deck, using that 4 mana two ramp spell (something like "Into the Frontier"?), because it pulls out 2 deserts at once. And you can have a deck with 3-5 colors that works extremely well as long as you have 4 mana and one forest on the battlefield. Suddenly out pops Cactarantula and Ratteworm, Roxanne starts dropping stars, Eriette locks down and steals their best creature, Bonny Pall and her blue Ox start cleaving thru your enemy's blockers....it gets nasty very fast. Heck that "Tumbleweed" spree ramp spell is fantastic too, one desert initially, THEN suddenly you are making 6/6 or larger tokens.

This feels less like power creep and more like WotC restructuring the game to make creatures in general better and other card types less powerful than they each were in the past. Players want creatures to be more central because combat is where the game's meat and potatoes are. Creatures have gotten more cracked but a lot of non-creature cards especially artifacts are a lot less potent now.

My Mono-Green deck uses Wrenn and Realmbreaker. My prismatic Deck has her as it's deckbox on Arena---she's essential. It's an utterly NASTY planeswalker. Also, The Eternal Wanderer: Yes, she's 6 Mana...she's also a solo lockdown that can END an opponent on drop. I love to use a Planar Disruption on an opponent's good lowbie 2/2, and tagging that to save...and laughing as all their other stuff is swept away.

I absolutely agree. Cornucopia will be fantastic in stuff like golgari, gruul, and selesnya, but it's kind of niche outside of that. Whereas bandit's haul I think will be seen in the majority of decks that have black because of the massive amount of targeting. You have deep cavern bat, tinybones joins up, cut down, go for the throat, etc. plus Sheoldred, that's a lot of card advantage and life gain.

While both Leyline of the Guildpact and Wrenn and Realmbreaker will help with a lot with the Mana Issues were going to get into for many 3,4 and 5 colored decks and, in Leyline's case, will basically keep the Domain deck alive. The loss of the Capenna Triomes, Slow Lands and the Capenna Fetchlands (central pieces of the Landfall Combo Deck) will make so much of a impact that we'll start to see decks getting centralized with 1 or 2 Colors in mind while decks with 3 or more mana colors will start to become rarities in the Standard Enviroment I don't think 3 Blind Mice was not designed the way it was designed if it wasn't going to serve as THE replacement for Wedding Announcement. Remember that Wilds of Eldraine was actually designed based on the 2 Year Rotation that Standard once had. Rotation that, if it was applied, would mean that Wedding Anouncement would not have been part of Standard with the release of Wilds of Eldraine, which is were Three Blind Mice came from Once again we're seeing the same thing with Ancient Cornucopia being the direct (although weaker) replacement of the Celestus, specially in Domain Decks

I've played a decent amount of high noon control and I'm still iffy on the card. You really want to draw/play it as early as possible for it to be effective against aggro decks, which means you want to make it a 4-of. But it's not a great card outside of those matchups. And sometimes even the aggro decks can do pretty well with it in play (mono red has plenty of burn to play on your turn, for example). Anyway, curious to see if/how that changes.

    It's a Rotation VIDEO!!

  • @dittmar104
    @dittmar1042 ай бұрын

Rotation isn’t an issue that’s like calling nighttime an issue. It’s just the nature of standard. There’s a reason people are excited for it, it’s the soul of the format. We have non rotating formats for extended play life or just complete increased viability. Sure some card might not be as good as others in that format so you stop playing them but that’s no different to limited coded cards existing in standard sets. I’ve been posting it on a lot of videos across the community but I think we need two rotating paper formats. We have standard with either the current rotation or old rotation and then what I’m gonna call Contemporary. Defined as “living or occurring at the same time,” Contemporary is parallel to standard but has 2-3 extra years of standard sets legal at any given time. This makes it a 4-5 five year format as apposed to standards current 2-3 year format. At its max Contemporary will home 20 expansions (plus supplementary sets) if my math is correct that would make the current capstone sets Throne of Eldraine and Outlaws of Thunder junction. Probable meta decks would GR Prowess, WG enchantments, UW snow control, B aristocrats/devotion, R red deck wins, G stompy, Domain/escape to the winds, archivists cobra ramp, BUR Rogues/crime, W/WB Humans, ect. Here we see a somewhat difference to both standard and pioneer, but you’ll still have access to cards that’ll be useful in both of those formats. There are many interesting consequences I didn’t even plan with not including war of the spark block, like no Sorin for vampires, no arclight phoenix, no lotus field, no narset/ahiok dedicated sideboard slots, and no $40 shock lands. Look maybe I’m dreaming but I think this format would work incredible as a bridge between standard and pioneer, breaking down the barriers to entry exponentially. So the pipeline for card usability goes limited, standard, contemporary, pioneer. You loose cards every step of the way but you can slowly build up your collection as you pass through the formats. And when Contemporary is unplayable, statistic 3/5s of your deck is standard playable and vice versa. Standard being dominant by one deck your archetype doesn’t have an answer to? I’m sure it’s got the support it needs in Contemporary. Also yes I did name it contemporary for the pun.

As much as I haven’t enjoyed Standard since CawBlade, I do believe that Standard is an important piece of MtG: 1: 14 year-olds can’t afford Reserved List cards, fetch lands, etc. But they can build a deck from their Friday Night Drafts and at least win a game or two. 2. Cards do not need to be “strictly better” than every similar card before it. 3. It encourages opening packs as opposed to just buying singles. 4. Decks change. How often does Modern or Legacy or Vintage see the emergence of a completely new deck? Maybe every five years?

Maybe it's too soon to tell what will play post rotation because some cards could pop in the next expansion that refill some spots that will be gone but : ... raffine being gone is great! schooner is not as good as raffine. domain atraxa will be hit hard, boros convoke will be hit hard next expansion as well. golgari is still strong post rotation. sheoldred, gix, glissa... mono red is always mono red. dimir could rise in popularity, there is potential for more control decks and combos could see the light of day. standard need to address some key cards after the next expansion to keep the format fresh.

Not sure how good Atraxa is going to be if you can't turn 2 Leyline someone. In general, Leyline Binding being more expensive is a huge deal for that deck.

Domain will take a hit but cheating Atraxa out is still gonna be strong enough for all those decks to still exist. That creature needs to go and standard will be better for it in a year.

Another thing I won't miss: Sheoldred, The Apocalypse. I KNOW it's going to be ruining my life for another year, but it NEEDS to be banned in all formats. I see that overpowered slimy thing come out and I just go: Well, 4/5 I'm about to lose, because I know I won't pull a death spell now (because I know better than to rely on luck, especially on Arena). Sheoldred, The Apocalypse basically gives anyone who uses it a near-guaranteed win. Yeah, you can remove her, fine. But anytime I see black mana, I know that chances are my opponent has her, because she lets them play very sloppily and not see any real consequences. She needs to go away, she needs to be banned, and how that card ever made it thru play testing is honest-to-god beyond me.

Rotation is both sad and a relief at the same time. Loosing some great support cards often wrecks every standard decks I got on Arena. On the other hand, I can't wait to see some cards and decks go away forever. I've been fed up by werewolf deck for at least a year now, for one. I usually flush any Arena game that starts with my opponent dropping Reinforced Ronin on turn 1. It was fun for the first year or so, but can't stand that card anymore.

Sorry, Three Blind Mice could cost (1) less and it still wouldn't be a good card. And at 3-cost, it just isn't ever going to be a tier 1 starter in standard. OTOH, the case for Soldiers is very good. Rotation looks like a big win for them.

  • @Jonasz314

I disagree with your #1 pick - I don't think Atraxa remotely makes this list. Without tri-lands and reliable removal like Leyline binding, Domain simply isn't a viable deck. Sheoldred is what gets instantly better after Wandering Emperor leaves the format. It was kept somewhat in check since it could barely attack into 4 open manas, but now it totally can - none of the removal cares about whether it's tapped or not. The scary part is that with Insatiable Avarice, it's already a nightmare to deal with and can shell out damage really quickly (Bloodletter not being needed, it's a meh card at best and crowds the 4-mana slot way too heavily). Black is already very well equipped to deal with fast aggro decks, so it has a decent future in the post-rotation meta.

Losing the tri-lands is gonna kill my decks. IMHO, tri-lands of all of the named (Esper, Jeskai, Grixis, Sultai) colors hould be apart of every set or should become a basic land type so tri-color decks always have a place in the game. It was so weird to not have any new tri-lands for awhile.

You know what I won't miss? Werewolves....NOT AT ALL. I am sick of having the matchmaker throwing me against 4 Werewolf decks in a row and watching as Celestus and "Unnatural Moonrise" ruin any chance I have to win by turn 4. They need to be banned from all other formats once they leave Standard. I want these people who still only use Werewolves THREE YEARS LATER to have to learn another trick...or leave the game forever. Also, if you still use a Raffine deck that's nothing but New Capenna-era Esper Control with Farewell, I honestly hope your life outside of the game sucks. Because you ruin fun and shouldn't be allowed to feel joy. And I know I'm not alone in thinking that.

where I live, 50% of all decks at the local store tournaments are boros convoke. And they do rather well for themselves. 40% is azorious control trying to control boros convoke. 5% is mono black sheoldred, and the other 5% (which includes me) are people trying to put together something interesting with what we have......the have nots of magic if you will. Boros definitely is running over the meta here, and from what I see with the mtg arena content creators, they are always dealing with it. Best deck may be arguable, but most consistent deck for sure.

@TheCeruleanSentinel yeah I guess I could see that in paper. I'm on arena these days so nobody is married to any one deck. My Mardu build is a pretty fast Midrange and I have Brotherhood's End and Pest control in the sideboard w/ a lot of incidental life gain in the main. So maybe I just have a really good match up.
