This gentleman has been the most helpful man I've ever listened to on bush aircraft. He goes into everything. I have so much confidence in him, and his knowledge is encyclopedic. He is a really nice man to listen to.
As a non flyer, but someone who really enjoys flying videos, this was extremely educational and interesting. Now I know! Thanks!

Bush flying is not really interesting for me but I wanted anyway to thank you for not stuffing as many ads as possible in your video as some of the other channels are doing... cheers!

One of the best videos on aviation I have ever seen
Great video, love it. thanks for the free education
Great info. Great info for flight interest. Great info for flight understanding. Great! 👍
Rim=wheel Wheel half + o-ring + spud + tie bolts + wheel half = wheel assembly Tire+tube+flap+wheel=tire and wheel assembly That's how I differentiate. Good video thanks for posting
Great information to have, thanks for sharing
Very cool - Jon ! Enjoyed it
Awesome presentation…I used to be a bush pilot in Africa, C185 ,Robertson…!!!

How awesome. ..you were so blessed to fly in South Africa. .....I really like the Bush Cat by Sky Reach
great to see the Seldovia Intergalactic Spaceport in all its splendor. please show more of your 170b mods. what's the panel like? atlee dodge back seats? floats? skis? do you know anyone who's running the xp ti gear on 170? thanks again for posting such thoughtful and comprehensive content.
Really great guide. It's usually hard to come by this kind of information. I enjoy your style of explaining a lot

Good info. Thanks.
If you had to choose between the Cessna and experimental which would you prefer? Your ground school was awesome! Passed my test with ease!!
Hi John What about slats on the wings?
Great video man! One question Was an STC necessary to get the 175 wing on the 170 or did I understand it wrong haha. Thanks!
Super useful introduction. Thanks!! Would you consider Maule MX7-180 a capable “family friendly” bush plane? What major mods would you do first?
Looking forward to the Backcountry training.
Love these airplanes, I hope to have one someday
very nice video!
Excellent stuff bro
A wheel is any circular object with an ability to attach to an axle of sorts. A rim is the hunk of metal that replaced spokes. A tire is the rubber.
Perfect, now I just need an airplane!
If you jack your plane up too high to where you can’t see put a camera on the bottom of the nose and put a display inside the cockpit
Great run down. Be great to get a pricing breakdown of them.
I found your little nugget very interesting about the flap on the Bearhawk blocking rudder authority. Since we're on the cusp of decision making on a 4 place cub, im going to talk to Kirk about that. Moving the flap a foot away from the fuselage. As well as a lotta other stuff.

@@fly8ma.comflighttraining199 as it turns out, because of seeing your bearhawk, we're 75% sure we're going with a Bearhawk 5. Thinking that it will have a better useful load. And on amphibs.
Good job, boy! :-)
Hope you and Steph had a happy thanksgiving!

It still has 2 pads per wheel, it has twice the clamping force of a single piston caliper.

Depending on the pad size and piston surface area. I'm pretty sure my supercub had Aztec wheels and brakes. There's that wheel word again ...
Thanks for the education

I would see this mod done on ultralights like minimax.
I can only find the plane names t-shirt on your website what about the hoodie you're wearing how can I buy one of those? Awesome video by the way!
Slingin Rocks!!! :)
Hey John, I have just bought a Cherokee fuselage with tail section and wings, think its a 6 seater not sure. There is no data plate. I need help. Do yo I think I can make it a bush plane even though its a low wing?
can we make a hybrid solar please? Cant run out of fuel and/or can power tools and accesories
Do you consider putting logo stickers all over a plane a good mod for a plane with a beautiful paint job?
What year 170 is that. I love that plane. Whats the HP rating and engine type. . I noticed it has a non rounded tail rudder vs the regular 170b has a rounded tail.
Is there a way to ask you questions but not public
What air pressure do you run in your tires. I assume you use Nitrogen not air.
Aren't you supposed to treat that propeller like a possible live propeller that could start up the engine and hurt you?

Yep!!!!
Nice video but plenty of room for more explaing wow and what makes plane work , I been looking at Murphy radical plane , I don't see much on this plane not sure why maybe too expensive for a fit plane from b c Canada, Murphy been in the game long time
Great video! Of all the mods on the 170 I cant believe he didn't mention the engine conversion though...The most expensive one for sure!
@flyboyak100

Yes the engine upgrade is the best mod that you can make for Bush Flying. Let me know which engine you would like. Stoots Aviation
Can you do a video covering what happens if you turn only using the rudder and keep wings level. Saw a RC video and well respected chap saying this is a safe way to turn at low altitude. Coming from full size gliding years ago and now flying RC I was always taught coordinated flight was the safest. Can you comment or do avideo covering this please. (Flat turn with rudder only, possible opposite aileron ) many thanks

Turning with rudder while keeping the wings level (if that’s what you mean) is a skidding turn. If you stall while skidding, there is a good chance of a spin developing. You mentioned the R/C guy doing this at low level. Don’t ever do this, you can’t recover from a spin at low altitude. You are correct, a coordinated turn is safer. Slipping is generally safe as well, just don’t skid.

@@alexmoreland7938 Thanks Alex for the advice. I thought what he was saying was wrong but doubted myself. Now you mention skidding turn I understand. Cheers
How much speed penalty for the big vs stock wheel/tires?
@taproom113
2 жыл бұрын
Opinions vary. I've heard some say as little as 10 kts all the way to 35 kts. If you're going from the smallest 'stock' tires to the largest available, I'd say closer to the 35 mentioned. No personal experience myself as I'm sticking with the 8.5x6's on my Maule for now. Skal, ^v^
What airplane is that
I kept waiting to see an eagle get that little dog.
Hub+tire=wheel
Hi, what do you think about adding a cargo pod to the Bearhawk?
buddy has the gift of gab...in a good way.
I've been looking to buy (no, I do not believe I have the skills to build one) a back country STOL bush plane that not only has excellent STOL capabilities but is also extremely maneuverable and reliable. Money is not as large of an issue as preformance, reliability, and safety. Currently with a $300,000 budget, what would you recommend?

Carbon cub
the prop thinghy, if zou keep adding power (actual hp, kW) to a 2 bladed prop you would start to loose efficiency. thats where 3+ bladed props kick in. also, a tire is a tire, on a bicycle, motorbike, tractor, gocart, car, truck, airplane. cessna or 737. wheel hub/rim is another. together they make a wheel (assembly; as per boeing/airbus/crj/canadair/atr amm) as we know it

Excellent video!!! I’m a VFR private pilot, own and fly a Cessna172. Thinking about flying the coast up to Alaska, it would be June or July, any advice?

@Vfindlarer

If you don't, fly the eastern slope of the Rockies to Northern BC/Alberta then follow the VFR route through the Yukon to Alaska. The coastal weather is a killer without experience.
24:00 Where it is?
13:20 i see dog
Nitrogen…???
Just buy a 180...
FYI: The belt zip tied to your motor, the belt will degenerate from hot-cold-hot-cold. You can spray belt dressing to extend it's life I'm guessing 8-12 PSI for your tires?
Actually, you make a confusion between wheel and rim. Wheel = Rim + Tyre

Why not sit down at your laptop computer and write a Script...then record the Script separate from the Video? Succinct. Professional. And half to one-third as long.
Sorry, I don't really trust anyone wearing flip flops and not at a pool.
Dude do you know the difference between a 170 and a 172? You sound like Joe Biden😅
Good report, thanks, but the background music is annoying and it doesn’t do anything for the intelligibility.
The music with you talking is very annoying. That way I gave it a thumbs down. Otherwise is was a nice informative video.
