Building a Bush Plane 4 times the size of a Highlander
Спорт
Steve and Sara visit Dell Coller at his shop to learn about the build of his Turbo Prop Broussard airplane. Josh is also at the shop to weld the engine mount for the project. Dell is a good friend of ours and it was really cool to see the progress on his build.
Check out wildwestaircraft.com to talk to Steve about getting a Highlander.

Hey Thanks Sara! Great video as usual! Please keep us updated on this plane. My buddy has a Broussard and I’m sure we both will be interested to see the completed plane. I always thought a Broussard with a PT6A on it would be cool, so this is close to that.

This is an amazing build! Please keep videos of this aircraft coming. Would love to see it fly
What a great build! Thanks for posting this Sara, it's very interesting.
Hello, You maybe feel what I felt as a kid, when I saw my first "Broussard" during a show in the Air base of my region... For sure, the engine you've decided to place on will change the so rich sound from the original, that I've always in my ears, but, I've to admit that if this kind of turbine, or something like this one, was available at the time the "Broussard" was produced, that would be probably the intial choice. I'm very pleased to see your illuminated face when you talk about this incedible plane ! I'll be on alert to see the rest of your challenge ! Cheers from France
Not sure if your the one or not, but I watched a stearmen in the 90 with the same setup and was relly impressed. I flew t6 for the 6 of diamond in the 70 thru 90ies, and after a while all airshow become the same. But this one I still remember 30 years later...
Definitely want to see this updated all the way to flying!
That's some real tech. innovation, superb video. ELT sends to satellite via the 406 signal and triggers an S&R to NOAA. No more 125mhz vhf. That's why the helpers from FAA show up. That S&R happens to much.
Thanks so much to everyone involved for sharing your project! It is very interesting, and very well done!! The Garrett looks smaller and lighter than a TP6. Can't wait to see it run and fly! Congrats on a very cool project!! 8) --gary

As long as you don't have to touch it, it is also the superior power plant.
Such a amazing build! I have enjoyed your other creations in person several times, and am looking forward to seeing this one take flight.
We have another Mike Patey on our hands here. Does he have a KZread channel for his builds? I would definitely subscribe.
This is high end! What an epic project
Looks like Dell has some excellent plane building skills,.. good company to keep Steve..... I'll bet it too will be a show focal point.🤔
What an awesome build. Inspirational.
Wow! Thank you for sharing your work. Very inspiring
Oh i really do like this idea!shoud be infinitely versatile might be a similar story to the beaver if done right as i believe thetes still airframes around
This is so rad, I'd love to work on films like this.
Nice build! ⭐️ I used to know a Broussard here in Switzerland and flew with it.

Awesome project. Looking forward to see you flying the french beast 😀 Regards from Pilatus Porter land... ✈ BTW: Your "Portair" could be the next PC-6
That was awesome. Thanks Steve!
Didnt know he was the Yak guy. I saw him at Travis AFB when i was little so cool
Great video of a great build
Keep us posted . Looks like an interesting build for sure........And no Steve , you don't get to put that Engine in the Yee Haw !!!
How very cool. Thank you.
Another great video, Sara. Thanks for sharing.
That is crazy cool! Looking forward to seeing this in action!
That is crazy cool I cannot wait to see this thing in the air!
I would really like to see more on this build.
You’re the man Steve! Definitely need you to come back to CAP some time. Some cool stories you were sharing
That is on The High Side of Kool..... onward...... Carry On.... !!
I can wait to see the final product.

I strive to be like you one day Steve!! I WILL buy a highlander from you. Mark my words!!!

Incredible! It is amazing what you do with time and money.
Unreal
Some nice 35’s will give some more clearance. I’m sure those are on the list
Just WOW !!!! ❤❤👍👍
Wow, great build! That engine mount is substantially larger than the one I did. I a chromoly one to put a 3 cylinder Pontiac Firefly engine from a car into an Ultralight.
Can't wait to see this at KMAN!!!!!
The humble Patey ;)
Spectacular build Dell. Thanks for sharing.
This is high value content ♠️

I got a ride once in Dean Wilson's single engine high wing "camper." IO 540 powered, (can't recall what he called it) big enough to walk around in flight. This is almost on that scale.
Awesome build
Ha, before I opened this I said to my self that a Broussard is already a huge bush plane! Then I opened the video and guess what…….French Beaver!
Haha, I used to work for MB Quart 👍
Great project, but beware the Broussard is known to have to be centered rear for the landing, either with a mass or a personnel, then with a propulsion very slight compared to the radial engine, it will be necessary to be careful for this subject . In france we know well this problem .
wow.
Wow Great job Dell Taking it North?
Reminds me of the Pilatus Porter.... Should be a nice jump plane. But prolly to expensive for most drop zones to purchase.
Excellent stuff bro
we have the jet Waco parts in our shop as we speak getting cover.
Be careful and remember to attach the locking mechanism on the door, Boeing has recently discovered that they can come loose if not fastened in place.
Mike would build it in six months alone
Ambitious!

Way to go Dell!
What CAD software do you use?
@ 9:40 angle of atc. where do I get one?
Monstre de la brousse.
What model 3d scanner is that??
Is there another way to get out of that airplane? That sliding door seems vulnerable to getting jammed shut in the case of a "hard landing" where the door frame could become misshapen. If flying single pilot it would be difficult to pre-release it in an emergency situation.
Ive seen that aircraft type flown in Morocco years ago, a good airframe, where in the world did you find it,

It was in pieces when he found it. He has put it back together. He owns 2 Broussards!
Was the third vertical based on actual engineering or just experience?

Garret is a time bomb. lol
Great post I hope you have a couple of follow ups of this build to post in the future. And would be great to have some footage of the maiden fight and testing process, I not asking for much LOL 🙂
Incredible improvement in the powerplant. It loses its original airworthiness slips. How’s it going to be registered now.?

Or loading your dirt bikes and flying somewhere fun to ride 😊
Seems like a waste of a classic aircraft but, if he was going to try and get any practicality out of it, he should be looking into the turbine mod they do to some of the DHC2 Beavers, where they take the front of the fuse from the cockpit forward, and move the whole lot forward one seat row. The motor doesn't end up on long spindly mounts, the pilot's now out front with better visibility, and you've got an extra seat row (three more pax on the CofG), win/win I'd say.
Wow! Be careful, you’re going to make Patey jealous. This might be even cooler than Draco.

Nothing is going to be cooler than Draco.
It helps to yell at it in French if something goes wrong!
Amazing project put Josh in a bubble suit
Steve, can you get the name of the 3D laser scanner?
Must have been fairly nose heavy in its original configuration.
Is Eddie solaman helping out on this project ?
A turbine Broussard. Why not? 😁 Cool project
You should remove the triple verticals and go with a single vertical tail for more weight savings.

That’s what I’ve been telling him! Dell has a very exciting and interesting life. -Sara
That is one looong nose!
That can't be an accurate way to measure the weight. Some weight is on the the forklift unless you raise it to just before it wants to tilt over onto the nose.
@SteveHenry
4 ай бұрын
I’m not sure I understand your comment, but it was accurate because Dell had a scale under all 3 wheels including the tail. -Sara
@thomasloper1205

Didn’t realize you had a scale on the forklift. I thought you were just tilting it up off the tail wheel.
@griffinbrungraber9498

Why not just measure weight on all 3 wheels before removing the original engine, and then match that front/rear ratio?
