Related to your PSA, the St. Barnard would carry a small barrel of brandy when doing search and rescue. Yes it effectively makes you colder, but that 'burst of warmth' helps get you the energy need to follow the dog to safety.

Nonsense. They don't do this anymore and they only did it in the past because they didn't know any better. In a life threatening situation which would be the only time you would meet one of these dogs, whiskey would be the last thing on the list of life saving supplements you would need. If you are cold and miserable, but otherwise safe, yeah then drink some whiskey. If your life is truly in danger in a cold weather situation , then avoid any alcohol.

Update: Austin police have determined that the cinder blocks drove the tractor on top of the fridge, trapping the local Austin man inside, thus suffocating him within a matter of hours. It appears suspicious. Possible homicide. Unanswered questions as to why the cinder blocks wanted to harm this individual? What role did the riding mower play in all of this? Updates will be provided as the investigation continues. Thoughts again go out to the family.

Let's see if I get this right, first you sample ten, ten bourbons, then decide Daniel should be in charge of shenanigans, that is when things turned hobbitty. Second, Rex, as much as I appreciate a good sport in all, well, Daniel by nature is not the most spontaneous person, so either that was a well timed, calculated move or a true display of tactical improvisation with a heart of compassion. Just when I started to calculate the amount of air left for Rex, assuming no holes for ventilation, Rex panics only to reveal they allowed a air gap if test subject manually activates it. Third, Rex your performance was first rate, you sold your role as an oblivious soul perfectly so well I suspended belief for a small moment, you sir have done us proud! Daniel was masterful in his role as well as well the hobbit in this episode of Whiskey Shenanigans: The Hobbit Strikes Back!. So instead of a Death Star we got what? A white Kenmore upright, broken and filled with something stinky, yep one summer and Rex Hand crafted small batch single mooch will be ripe! That one is probably my favorite...although the bookers, Elijah Craig and knob do come close second.

Maybe I got a bad bottle or something, but some time ago I had the Rare Breed (116 proof) and it had a weird mold smell to the cork and generally the whiskey smelled unpleasantly after pouring it. Was that the famous Wild Turkey funk or what?! I really did not like the whiskey at all, I had high hopes about it as it was the first so high proof bourbon I've tried... I REALLY like my Knob Creek Single Barrel. I have found it hard to buy anything else. I know I should expand my palate, but I am not sure which direction to go in my next bottle. I am relatively new to appreciating the nose, and identifying notes instead of just drinking bourbon . I get vanilla, cherries, and chocolate, almost like a cherry chocolate cordial. (We called those cherry chocolates) I also get oak, cinnamon, and brown sugar. I detect other things but have not been able to label them yet.

I thought this was going a different way at 19:26 when I spotted the wood pile. The whiskey may not have been noticeably warming, but a bonfire under the fridge would have been.

"Whenever I go somewhere and I don't know what the whisky selection is like I order a Maker's Mark". Oh yeah. It's my go to bourbon - it's consistently good - doesn't bowl you over - but always tastes good. And works equally well straight, over rocks, or in a cocktail. For me it's the baseline standard on which I compare all others. Some are better some are worse.

My guess is that people voted on regular Four Roses Single Barrel at #3, not what you poured, which was Four Roses Single Barrel Private Select (much higher proof point and double the price). Could be wrong!

You should try Old Forester 1915 (you have to mix it yourself - a 50/50 mix of OF 1920 and OF 1910, let it sit for a couple months) - very popular among bourbon fans

As someone trying to really get into bourbon should I avoid Stagg Jr? When I first drank scotch I went for an Ardbeg 10 and never looked back, I loved the intensity of it even though at the beginning it was a little overwhelming. The only other bourbons I've had have been Bulleit and Knob Creek and both have been fine.
