Top 10 Boss PS-6 Metallica riffs

Metallica has great riffs, we all know that, and some of them are harmonised. So James plays one part, Kirk the other. But with the Boss PS6 Harmonist you can play some of these harmonised riffs by yourself, which comes in handy in these times of social distancing. This is my personal top 10 of possible riffs with this pedal.
And there are Metallica riffs that require two PS6's, here's my top 10 with those: • Top 10 Metallica Riffs...

    Best explanation of a Boss harmonist pedal I've seen and heard so far. I have a Boss Harmonist HR 2 pedal and I still have difficulty getting the simulation effect of two guitars playing the same notes at intervals even obeying the scale is smaller or larger, I noticed that the PS 6 is much more objective I will change the pedal kkkkkkk. Thanks for the video and the demonstration. Anderson Santos. Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.

    Great video. I wonder to try and mimic ( excuse the pun) the slight human error between two guitarists to make the harmonies less computer like with something like the TC Elec Mimiq pedal. I wonder where it would go in the chain. Something I will have to try.

  • @DIYguitarGuy

    @DIYguitarGuy

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Interesting, I think it could sound cool after the PS-6 (stereo out, stereo in) so it sounds like 6 guitars playing, or you could let the dry sound of your Mimiq go through the PS-6, so the Mimiq can compensate for the PS-6's latency. The latency isn't bad in Harmony mode but worse in Pitch Shifter mode. How do you like the Mimiq? I had it for a while but I thought it sounds phasey and couldn't get a useful sound out of it.

    Is it possible to play the ending harmony part that plays over the final solo in Fade To Black or the solo in Fight Fire With Fire from Metallica?

  • @DIYguitarGuy

    @DIYguitarGuy

    2 жыл бұрын

    For the Fade To Black part put it in B minor and shift it either a 3rd up or down, depending on which part you play. Just turn it off on the second note because both guitars play an F# at that time. I never took the time to learn the Fight Fire With Fire riff, but looking at the tabs I think it possible. I think it's also a 3rd up (or down) but in E minor.

    Is there a way you can do those harmonies that appear in ride the lightning solo?

  • @DIYguitarGuy

    @DIYguitarGuy

    Жыл бұрын

    I think the parts that starts around 3:37 and 3:49 are harmonized in perfect fourths and the arpeggios from 3:55 onwards are perfect fifths, so both could be achieved with the PS6 in pitch shifter mode. Switching between these intervals could be a little hard while you're playing a solo but maybe an expression pedal could help with that.

  • @DIYguitarGuy

    @DIYguitarGuy

    Good suggestions. MOP uses multiple scales in the bridge, so you need 2 PS6s to achieve this. I actually made a video about this (kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqetttd6nLHIg9o.html) and I'm planning to do a follow up to the Top 10 with riffs that require 2 PS6s. The Unforgiven is a little more difficult: it starts of with a simple harmony but then one's going up while the other one's going down.

    hi, do you connect the pedal in the input or in the send and return?

  • @DIYguitarGuy

    @DIYguitarGuy

    2 жыл бұрын

    Definitely between send and return, harmonies sound way cleaner this way, like there's a second guitar player. I think I've mentioned this in the video, although instead of going back to the return, I'm going straight into my sound interface and added a cabinet simulator in my DAW for this recording.

    I use my PS6 a lot in my cover band. It covers a lot of ground of a few pedals. Best harmoniser I’ve used as it sounds natural and not too perfect like the TC pedal. The Detune and Whammy functions get a lot of use as well. Great video 👍👌

  • @Dan_Ranger

    @Dan_Ranger

    @@DIYguitarGuy Yes, I used the TC Quint. I just found it too “perfect” plus I’m a big fan of Boss pedals so it just made sense. I mainly use the Detune that’s on most of the time in a subtle way. I use the S bend whammy for some Pantera stuff and general special effects. I use the harmoniser for a few iron maiden and Thin Lizzy tracks. I don’t use a lot of pedals but this has been on my board for years! Can’t wait for a possible PS Polyphonic 7! 🤞🤞

    @@joobchrismac8706 I'm not sure if I understand your question exactly, but it's currently the fist pedal in my chain because I use it mainly for pitch shifting and super bend (whammy) sounds. For harmony mode it should be after gain or in the effects loop, but my switcher only allows one pedal in the loop. That's where my Zoom MS70-CDR is, which also has a killer harmony effect that sounds just as good as the PS6.

  • @DIYguitarGuy

    @DIYguitarGuy

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi! Are you talking about the Creeping Death part around 6:25? I don't own a Katana but my guess you can add the effect in the Tone Studio. Take a nice lead tone and place the Pitch Shifter after it in the FX tab, so it's post gain. Set the Pitch Shifter either a 4th up or down, depending on which part you play. In my experience it sounds best if you play the upper part and set the effect to a 4th down, then set the balance knob to about 60% dry and 40% wet.
