I like 11.22.63 but he got a few historical things wrong, such as Edwin Walker's political affiliation. And the phrase "don't mess with texas" did not exist in the 1960s. So while I did enjoy the book, it was not "top ten" for me. With all the alleged research he did, you'd think you could get party affiliations right.

Byzans is mobile only? Really? 🙄 edit: There's no way to leave reviews or to rate books, it appears. So it is basically a mobile only discord. Okay. edit2: When I search "Cosmere" it picks up EVERYTHING Brandon Sanderson has written, including the entirety of the Reckoners series. Steelheart et al ain't Cosmere. It also returns results from Simon R. Green, Eliot Brooks, Ken Liu, LE Modesitt, Jr. and a whole bunch of other authors. And places their results AHEAD of a few of Sanderson's Cosmere books. Also, Stormlight Archives does the same. Who knew Starsight was in the SA? Apparently, Byzans. 🙄 And note that searching "Stormlight Archives" on GoodReads returns only books in that series, though the sorting is a little wonky. Maybe somebody might find a use for this in concert with GoodReads, but as currently constituted it is no replacement. Not even close. And why bother at all with Byzans when there's Discord and loads of Fantasy themed servers out there doing exactly the same thing this app appears to? Don't get it. Uninstalled.

I've read the Broken Empire trilogy, and have almost finished book 2 of the Red Queens War, and your reviews of the Holy Sisters trilogy has me excited for it, but also thanks to you I'm soon to be reading the first Mistborn trilogy, and First Law will follow some point, and the rest of all the other books recommended.. If you liked 11/22/63 it has similar themes, just as phenomenal in writing, but you actually get that better development of the character. I am going to advocate for a book for your top published in 2019. Gideon the Ninth! It's the book I've enjoyed the most this year, and Amazon just named it as their top Sci Fi/Fantasy book for the year. I particularly recommend the audio book as it is just plain entertaining, and the narrator, Moira Quirk, is nothing short of brilliant. Other books I loved this year: Middlegame; Ninth House; An Unkindness of Magicians.

Just read the Book of the Ancestor series in about a week, really enjoyed it. Not that it really diminishes from achievement but it’s not that hard to have all the events and characters come together over a long stretch when one of your characters is a master manipulator extraordinaire. So you have to give Glass some credit for that.

Honestly, I don't think you're missing much with Leigh Bardugo's work. The only book of hers I really enjoyed was Six of Crows; the follow-up, Crooked Kingdom, was...a letdown for me. I generally feel like her writing in and of itself has gotten better, but she really needs to just let the Grishaverse die. Moving on to books like "Ninth House" is probably the smartest move for her career. I also agree that your #2 pick is one of King's best books. Even his most-loved books often make it obvious that he writes himself in to corners, but this one had a solid ending.

Well I unfortunately failed in reading a book every month, so I only read like five books (Wheel of Time is a long read yall and I also wanna pass Math) But my favorite was Dragon Reborn. Currently on The Shadow Rising and I just love how Dragon Reborn seems evenly focused on the main trio ft Rand al Thor in the background. I especially love Egwene and it sold me on Mat as a character even though I already liked him since EOTW. Close second is the Hero of Ages.

I just re listened to Tim Gerald Reynold's narration of both Riyria Chronicles and Riyria Legends and Royce and Hadrian are, imo, the best characters and have the best relationship arc. I hope you finish the series. I actually like the Chronicles better than Revelations but I like caper/road stories and they are just so well done.

Speaking of military fantasy - have you tried Butcher's "Codex Alera" series? It was a solid read!

You should check out Jack Whyte's novels. Historical Fiction. A Dream of Eagles series is great.

Just stumbled across the channel yesterday, great videos! I'm surprised I haven't seen the Riyria Revelations in any of your lists yet. They are super fun fantasy. I would say Age of Legends first, but it's more fun to hit Riyria first as the Age series is a bit of a prequel. Also, hell yeah on Dark Tower, one of the first series I really got into. Great stuff.

Daniel has been captivated with "First Law"'s characters endlessly...not enough to read the standalone novels, though right? Am I recalling that correctly, that he hasn't read them yet? My personal favorites: -The whole dang Cosmere (if I had to pick one, it'd probably be The Way of Kings, though any of Stormlight or the original Mistborn books come pretty close) -The First Law series (Haven't read A Little Hatred yet, but my current favorite is probably Red Country, because I'm a sucker for Westerns) -Dancer's Lament (The first and sadly best Malazan prequel I read this year, loved seeing two legends come together and their humble beginnings as instruments of chaos)

Hmmm, I wonder if the next list will have books Daniel dislikes but many other reviewers like. This was nice list though. I will definitely check out the red sister series at some point.

Daniel, can you feedback to the Byzan folks that there are multiple Mistborn chat rooms? 1 for The Final Empire. 1 for Mistborn. 1 for Mistborn trilogy. I know that last one is probably fine but I am finding several book series chat rooms with unintentional duplicates. Thanks hero. 👍

If you liked the ‘Book of the Ancestor’ series you might also like the ‘Nevernight chronicle’ series by Jay Kristoff. I read it straight after the ‘Book of the ancestor’ series and almost dnf it but it became my favourite read of 2019
