I 'member being way into Korn's second album Life is peachy which was this really dark twist sound, suddenly Limp Bizkit hook me in with their catchiness exploding the charts off. Then Deftones White pony changed the game for me hitting the nail in the head with their more refined -experimental- approach. Good times.

White Pony is such an epic album, the album that made it possible for Deftones to break the Nu-Metal label while 99% of the bands of this list died off. Heck, Deftones are still going strong while the ones on the list who survived have broken up, released sparsely etc..

saying rage is nu metal is like saying suffocation is deathcore. rage against the machine is a byproduct of hardcore, ZDLR applying the values and the lyrics he wrote for Inside Out, with the rhythm section being sourced from hardcore bands. Fundamentally they are a hardcore band who experimented a fuck ton more than any other hc band at the time… They were the first rapcore band because they were a litteral fusion of rap and hardcore. Rapcore =\= isn’t Nu Metal - Limp Bizkit wouldn’t be rapcore because they have no legitimate ties to hardcore and have no hardcore inspired parts, where as a band such a Vietnom is rapcore because they are all NYHC / DMS legends basically just playing hardcore with rapping over it. Dumbass take. Rage isn’t Nu Metal. And that’s not cuz im some elitist or whatever it’s just cause fundamentally they are from different origins and respect different values.

Still sucks has like 5 good tracks , with just the first two having huge replay value. So you sure you ll choose this instead of “3 dollar bill y’all” which is all killer no filler?

LD 50 is a masterpiece. Death Blooms is just unmatchable.

System of a Down's self-titled album is the one that got me into heavy music at all. That alone gives that album a special place in my life.

My favorite album probably has to go Animosity by Sevendust…it’s just chock full of grooves and Lajon’s vocals are so damn good

Ahh shit, I love nu-Metal. Since it was one of my first gateways to metal, this list may be more personal. 10. Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E. 9. Sevendust - Home or Animosity (I can literally flip those two out. I pretty love them equally. 8. Soulfly - Primitive 7. Snot - Get Some (highly underrated album; if you haven’t checked it out. I suggest you should). 6. Static - X - Wisconsin Death Trip 5. Korn - Untouchables (just a personal choice). 4. Slipknot - Self Titled (Iowa I feel as still being categorized as a nu-Metal album. Breaks boundaries for its extremity. I can easily call it an extreme metal record). 3. Deftones - Around The Fur 2. [Linkin Park] - Hybrid Theory (first band/album I ever fell in love with). 1. System of a Down - Toxicity (Grew up with it; every song has been in printed to my brain).

I LOVE nu-metal! Had a big phase back in my early high school years (even if it was 10 years too late) and a lot of that genre's biggest bands--especially Linkin Park and Slipknot--were part of my musical diet as a teenager alongside Warped Tour metalcore/electronicore, 80's grindcore and stuff like Killswitch Engage and All That Remains.

i Absolutely agree, Nu Metal really got me into Metal overall especially during my high school and College times. Linkin park, Slipknot, Bullet for my Valentine, Drowning pool and Disturbed and several bands are some of favorites and will always will be. They gave me great times and were especially influential to me in discovering different types of metal music. When i was a teenager and young adult , i was superbly into Nu metal, Classic heavy metal and Metal core , now i have become more diverse because of them. i have been discovering similar bands like Killswitch engage which are still great. i wouldn't mind checking out All that remains.

@@connyslayer4661 ATR's 2006 album "The Fall of Ideals" is widely considered a classic of 2000's melodic metalcore nowadays. The drumming from Shannon Lucas is one of the greatest one-off performances on a metalcore album EVER, as he would leave the band shortly afterwards.

HOLY CRAP! Thank you so much! Many years ago someone gave me a mix cd in high school and it was someone I lost touch with but one of the songs on it was Taproot - Again & Again and I remember trying to find out what the song was along time ago and I couldn't figure it out. Also Static-X - Wisconsin Death Trip is one of my favorite albums of all time. I never get tired of it. I'm glad to see System of a Down on here too. Some people have only listened to Toxicity and they are missing out. Soulfly was a great album too.

I agree and relate with your experience with Slipknot self-titled... first full metal album I ever fell in love with, never looked back. Easily one of the gritty-est, narly-est, darkest albums I have ever come across... Love the channel!!!!

Solid list. “Gift” is such a nu metal gem, I still think “Smile” is one of the heaviest intro songs. Honestly, a few albums I would have on my list are Spineshank - Height of Callousness and Nothingface - Violence.

I'm glad you mentioned taproot. I don't know their library all that well but 'poem' is one of my favorite songs period

I've also always felt that Issues is Korn's flawless masterpiece! Definitely my favorite Korn album, and probably my favorite of all time.

Korn is the first heavy band I ever got into, they play "Blind" at the end of the Street Fighter Anime movie and I was instantly interested. Obviously after Korn I expanded my metal interest into other bands and genres of metal but Korn is where it all started for me

Nice to see Taproot - Gift mentioned, I love that album.

This album wasn't in the video but Three Dollar Bill Y'all is one of my favourite nu metal albums of all time. The guitars are angry and heavy, the vocals are fun and I love Fred Durst's screams. Pollution is also my fav Limp Bizkit track of all time!

Solid list, althou not in my top 10, I always apreciated Gift, and didn't know why it wasn't as popular as other acts, then Poem came out and it kinda was, but it was not the same for me. "I" was my jam. My top 10: 10. Chevelle - Wonder What's Next 9. Fear Factory - Digimortal 8. Slipknot - Slipknot 7. Staind - Tormented (first album and their heaviest, by FAR) 6. This is almost exactly what my list would be. Only differences would be I prefer the first Limp Bizkit overall and Linkin Park faded super fast for me so I wouldn't include them in my favorites. Honestly I'd replace that with the first Hed P.E. album. I still blast that one, even though some of the lyrics are cringe. I'd probably go with the first Korn album, but I can totally see why you would choose Issues. Neck in neck for me. Great to see you shout out Taproot. I love that album as well and hardly anyone talked about them. I would ask though if you consider Incubus to be NuMetal? At least the first couple of albums? Some people do and some don't. Science would have to be up there for me as well. Great list as usual 🤘

Korn - Follow The Leader 2. Limp Bizkit - Significant Other 3. Deftones - Around The Fur 4. Soulfly - Soulfy 5. Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E. 6. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory 7. Hed P.E. - Broke 8. Slipknot - Slipknot 9. System of a Down - System of a Down 10. Factory 81 - Mankind A few other honorable mentions that are too good for me to not mention: Kittie - Spit POD - Satellite 311 - Transistor Crossbreed - Synthetic Division Finger Eleven - Tip I've been a huge fan of this genre since the first time I heard Blind by Korn. A friend of mines older brother used to play it on a boom box while we'd skate on this janky half pipe in the backyard. This was back around 1996, I was like 10 years old and I cannot properly explain how much excitement I felt. I've been hooked ever since. The naysayers can say what they will about Nu Metal as a genre/subculture yet here we are STILL talking about it and it and I feel like that says all that needs to be said. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Especially as someone who grew up with a lot of this stuff too, it's always great to come back to.

Crossbreed - Synthetic Division = underrated

Mines gonna have to be a top 15! Basically my favorites,mixed with significance and popularity! Also I should say I wasn’t a huge fan of the rap stuff but I liked some of it. I liked limp bizkit but there were two other rap nu metal albums that I thought were far better! Also I feel like nu metal peaked in 2000 and then quickly began to die so nothing on my list is after 2000! Hey we all know we did it all for the nookie en 1999 lol. I still listen to Nu Metal, there is a newer band called- Tetrarch that is pretty cool IMO. Man Taporoot is such a underrated band I remember the Poem album, i also loved Trust Company, remember them?. Deftones-White Pony is one of my favorite albums too.

I don’t listen to a ton of nu metal but I do like some from the genre. Around The Fur and Meteora are a couple favorite albums from the genre for me.

Good list

Loved Taproot Gift. Had the demo of it and it was even better than the release. They never made an album that would be as good as gift. Same with Mudvayne LD 50 all amazing songs, they released a few good tracks off their later albums but LD 50 is by far their best.

My top 5 would probably be: 1.) Slipknot 2.) I Let It In And It Took Everything 3.) Follow The Leader 4.) Significant Other 5.) Strangers Only

My favorite is Iowa by Slipknot but idk if that considered nu metal

Mine too. I guess it's technically considered nu metal, but it's definitely on the heavier side of things. I would consider Iowa to be my gateway into more extreme metal bands.

Not really a fan of the majority of the genre but one nu metal band I like is Sevendust. Saw them open for Megadeth in the late 90s and they put on a great show.

Really good list dude!!! For me it’d be perfect if not for taproot! I’m definitely not going to knock you for liking them. I’m happy if you enjoy them, but I can’t stand them. I’d take that out and add either disturbed indestructible, or maybe Sevendust home, or maybe coal chamber chamber music, or maybe drain STH freaks of nature but for me, the taproot has to go. very strong list though

Steal this album by soad is my fav nu metal album. Definitely an underrated one. White pony has some great songs but as an album doesn't really feel cohesive to me. Anyways great video.

honestly, it's sad that Nu Metal died so fast, Korn did make it a thing in 1994 (they made a demo in 1993), but it would get more popular in the later 90s, but then in 2003 it entered a decline with Limp Bizkit's "Results May Vary" and Korn's "Take a Look In The Mirror", reminds me of how Hair Metal got more popular in the later 80s (Motley Crue, Guns and Roses, etc.) but died in 1992 or so because of Grunge, also, thanks to Metal Trenches, now i'm gotten interested to Soulfly and Static-X, also the Slim Jim comparison made me laugh

If anyone watching this digs the first Taproot album and SOAD and that kind of sound, they should check out Apex Theory-I'd go so far as labelling them progressive nu metal

How you feel about limp Bizkit is how I feel about a lot of six feet under,not their early albums,because I don't see anything wrong with them,but their mid albums I'm like "they're cheesy,kinda cringe,but they're fun"

Facts

I was definitely 'semi-trolling' when I said WP was overrated cuz I was 'semi-pissed' that predictably a good chunk of the answers to your poll were 'Metallica' which was my gateway to 'regular metal' (coming from indus/goth) and the tens of covers from extremely various artists a few months back for the 30th anniversary proved it never was 'overrated' imo. That said even though I can't still be bothered to listen to WP from start to finish 'Rx Queen' is one of my all-time favorite track and I've listened to some remixes since that work better than the original songs for me, idk why but Deftones 'original sound' doesn't really do it for me except for a few standout songs! Besides coincidentally last week I was revisiting Disturbed '10,000 Fists' thinking it was a very good candidate for perfect nu-metal album but I also agree with 'Issues' which also is my favorite from Korn and the one time I could catch them live when they came to visit my small-ish French city in 2000 (I also thought of checking them about 10 years ago in Paris but ticket price had doubled and it was already sould-out anyways lol :)

I think the record label was deciding where it gets played. A lot of money was thrown around back then. I think taproot gift and flaw through the eyes are a couple of my top nu metal albums.

Not sure if these are all nu metal or not but had some kind of nu metal element. Linkin Park’s first two albums have a special place since it was the earliest memory I have of hard rock music. White Pony is a classic album and I’m hoping to get the vinyl of it someday. Not a fan of Limp Bizkit, I get the appeal but just not my cup of tea. I do love SOAD, at my job a co worker and I usually like to belt out Spiders lol. Also sugar………nuff said.
