Great video man 🤘. Really like the concept of tierlisting whole genres. I'm not familiar with every band, but I'll share some of my thoughts: Slipknot is my favourite nu metal band for sure and in my opinion they are at least as consistent as Korn. Korn definitely deserve its place, but they have few average albums (The path of totality, Untitled, Korn III). Personally, I would say that Slipknot has better instrumentation and vocals in comparison to Korn, but that's just my opinion. Slipknot to S-tier that's what I mean 😅. I would also place Mushroomhead higher, strong B-tier is good place I think. They recorded some pretty decent albums( I especially like the "XIII") and they are definitely influencial band (when Slipknot released their debut, Mushroomhead were preparing their third album). Deftones was never my cup of coffee, but probably I need some relistening (I checked their profile on rate your music and they have some incredibly high ratings 😮). Right now I would place them somewhere around low B-tier high C-tier. The rest of the placements is on point for me. 🤘😎🤘

You know the band is good when even their worst album (Adrenaline or Gore, depending who you ask) is a solid 7. SOAD is a similar case. There's a good reason Nu Metal rejecters always try to push these bands out the Nu Metal biosphere.
Using a band's fanbase as a reason to dunk on them is always a cheap shot, and not a good argument because its not a criticism of the band's music or its members and McKenty did a LOT of that in his video, but I do agree that a shitty fanbase can be a reason to avoid any band, my go-to examples of bands I genuinely love with deranged fanatics are Tool and Megadeth. Also I would switch Korn with Slipknot because when Korn sucked they sucked HARD, from 2003 to 2011 it was Korn's lowpoint, Slipknot's worse is just meh, and I'd argue that they're massively improving since 2019.

@@goatmoonwarmaster4641 I don't mean to say this in any way offensively, but do you know how many people say this about every band? Its practically all of them. I think a band's first album or 2 (generally speaking) is always considered their best, but I think that is derived from a person's expectations. Bands grow and evolve. The things that are important to them change, therefore the subject matter of their songs change. Its a double edge sword. A band can remake the same song over and over again, and they get mocked for doing so. A band changes up their sound, and they're a sellout.
As dar as older bands go, I am surprised you didnt include Ill Nino. For newer bands Tetrarch would have been a good one too to add with Tallah.
As far as modern Nu Metal bands go, would you say From Ashes To New would have a decent position on this list, or are they more leaning towards metalcore? I would say that I agree with pretty much of this list and that it is more reasonable than Finn's list. It is interesting how some of the most important and long lasting nu metal bands aren't even nu metal, they only put out a couple of new metal albums: Linkin Park, Chevelle, Deftones and Disturbed. Linkin Park became an alternative rock band after two albums, Chevelle and Deftones became alternative metal bands after their first two albums, and Disturbed became a heavy metal band. Also, I don't really think that System of a Down was ever really a nu metal band as they had such a manic sound and outside influences that make them more of an alternative metal band in my opinion. I don't really have a problem with any of these bands being given the nu metal label, I just find it interesting how for most of their career the bands haven't been nu metal but people still label them as such.

I think PM5K should at least be C tier, especially if you take into account 'Anyone for Doomsday?'. That album was solid, if only it didn't get ripped off the shelves when a little thing called 9/11 occurred. Most of their albums since have been really inconsistent, so that would keep them firmly locked in C at best.

S: Korn, Deftones, Slipknot A: Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Static-X, Sevendust B: Soulfly, Mudvayne, Coal Chamber, Nothingface, System of a Down, Staind, Cold C: Dark New Day, Ill Nino, Nonpoint, Skrape, Tallah, Tetrarch, Dope, Spineshank, Adema, Ultraspank, Snot, Stuck Mojo D: Mushroomhead, Papa Roach, POD, HedPE, Taproot, Flaw, Powerman 5000, Stereomud, Primer 55, , Switched, Kittie Disturbed and Chevelle are not nu metal. They are more alt-metal. And so many bands always get left out of these lists when it comes to Nu-Metal. I am 41 and was in my late teens, and early 20's through the beginnings, height of, and end of the first wave of nu-metal. I went to nu metal shows, both big and more underground. I was friends with some people in some nu metal bands. Brought in nu metal elements in to my first band from 99-2002. I was all about this genre. And its also exciting to see new bands bringing nu metal back. But as far as consistency, influence over a long period of time, influence during the height of nu metal and how bands sound today, and how much staying power some of these bands have not just when re-listening to them goes, but also how have they pushed themselves in terms of songwriting, creativity and taking what nu metal was and pushing it forward is how I came up with my list. Oh...and within my circle of friends back in the day who were in to nu metal, we all hated Papa Roach, and POD. lol They were too mainstream and polished. Seemed disingenuous and fake but they were talented nonetheless.
Staind A Cold B- Mushroomhead D Powerman 5000 B Chevelle S (a less boring tool) Papa roach B+ Deftones S (gore is awesome!) Songs like that come on while your driving down the road and it's like a instant dopamine dump for me.. that says something about a bands ability to grab it's audience.. that's something I just don't get with bands like Deaf Tones, I could acknowledge their talent but they are nowhere near as iconic as a band like Godsmack or even bands like Disturbed, and everyone just fucking bandwagon hates those bands now, like as if when down with the sickness come on as a kid u didn't hurt your head from singing along and head banging (I'm 27 so that may have some impact on my opinion, but I grew up in a rock family and love bands like rush, Led zeppelin etc.. Ummm Linkin Park is easily one of the big nu metal bands. I’d say it’s LP, Slipknot, Korn, and SOAD. Deftones doesn’t quite make that cut.
Big Tirade: So for Chevelle, they have a new metal sound, with the whole industrial rock grind, but I woul classify them as Alternative rock because they do go more for those grinding verses with uplifting, angelic choruses. What I always thought was amazing was Chevelle can write the most abstract and nonsensical lyrics, but I realized they were influenced by tool and they tried their own approach that doesn't correlate to their writing, but their singing transcends whatever they were scribbling. For Alternative rock, they get an S, for nu-metal they get a B or C. Give North Corridor a listen, that is where the more alternative metal sound truly resonates. I love, though it is overlong, Shot From A Cannon. I never want that song to end, even if it is feedback lol. Keep being Metal, Metal Trenches. ;)
To be fair on staind, Tormented before they were signed and dysfunction before break the cycle were all pretty good. After that though def agree.
Have you listened to every Nonpoint album? I mean they are obviously not S tier but putting them so low just doesn't seem right.
Now this is a very respectable ordering of things.
Bit late to the party but pretty much bang on. I think LD50 alone puts Mudvayne in A, Slipknot I agree... I would never choose to listen to anything all the way through after Iowa. Prefer Staind and Taproot to the C tier bands for the time.
Adema was great and didn't even show up on this list. Even after Chavez quit they had some pretty decent shit when they went in a more regular rock direction. Listen to "Cold and Jaded" after Chavez left it's great.
love how tallah was mentioned
Slipknot and Linkin Park should be S tier.
My list would be similair, I only would move Slipknot up to S. I think the material after Iowa is still very enjoyable. I don't consider them a nu-metal band, however.

Their first album has so many nu metal elements in it, I mean just listen to Corey full on rapping on Spit It Out, they definitely are, it’s just heavier nu metal like LD50 from Mudvayne
No pod?
How do people keep leaving ill Nino out of their nu metal list
I personally favorite SlipknoT, MuDvAyNe, Static-X, , S.O.A.D, and Soulfly in this list.
I really liked staind's albums pre chapter v. Should have been at least c
I respect you for static x they are my favorite band
Limp bizkit should be at S they are so popular still today
I’m a hip hop head but I like the metal genre.
Damn, I completely forgotten about Cold....only thing I remember about them is they sounded like a mix between nu metal and pearl jam lol.
I mostly agree with your list, but I'd swap Slipknot and Deftones. Also - you just gained a new sub ;)

Kinda feel the same as much as I enjoy both for different reasons. Slipknot is just too huge nowdays. Altho Deftones have more often replay ability to me. Definitely a solid list tho.

I have a review up for the new Limp Bizkit. New Slipknot track is also decent
Personally think Taproot and nonpoint need to be higher mostly because they are insanely good live and have a lot of songs i like
Good and interesting tier list, man! Here's mine (only based on how much I like their music, not on their influence and/or success): S: Linkin Park, Chevelle, Sevendust, P.O.D., Slipknot, Deftones, Mudvayne. A: Papa Roach, Disturbed, Staind, Korn, SOAD, Limp Bizkit. B: Static-X, Nonpoint, Soulfly, Cold. C: Coal Chamber, Kittie. D: Powerman 5000, Mushroomhead. Haven't listened to: Taproot, (hed) p.e., Tallah.
No RATM? great video though!

Don’t consider them nu metal personally.
Staines dysfunction is one of the best nu metal albums during that time and is still great,
Where's adema?
Totally disagree on what you said about Nonpoint. Love them. They are pretty consistent. The last few albums where great. And that Sevendust album was excellent. Saw them live for the anniversary of it. They are so underrated.
Can't argue with this too much but I do have to say Slipknot's discography is sooo much more consistent and enjoyable than Korn's. Even their mid-slump is very good music; just not the peak of their career. Korn's late career slump is a dumpster fire. Even with that being the case Korn's early career work (up to Take a Look in the Mirror) is astounding so I'd put Slipknot and Korn both in S tier. Probably have to move Chevelle down to C-tier and the rest is good for me :P

Korn outclasses SK in every single fucking department. Only exempt of Self Titled & Iowa which are genuinely good albums that can compete with top tier bands.

@@InveterateMendaciousness We both know that's a lie
One point I do disagree with is Taproots rating I’d say they are a sleeper pick for high C to low B tier, their sound was different for the time and their discography is varied enough for each album to not sound the exact same. Personally one of my favourites

Love Gift. Everything else is pretty meh
missed earshot, but this is a better list than finn's !!!
Yeah I have to disagree on the mudvanye,....they start out straight terrible up till lost and found ( witch is where their " good sound" started ) also don't feel like a lot of these are nu metal bands at all . But other than those personal feelings. Great video as always

My guy there’s no way you think that LD50 is terrible, that’s the best Mudvayne right there
Taproot is really underrated

Gift is great. The rest of the material after that goes over a cliff real fast
system of a tier list is my favourite band
