Ugh, I feel like I’m in the minority here. But I loved the old Hollywood Studios/MGM feel. The premise was great, “the Hollywood that always is, and never was”. I don’t like how this park will be driven just by 2 major IP lands. Would much rather have a plethora of different IP attractions in one land... not just based on one movie franchise

Actually, quite the opposite. You're in the majority. Now it's not even a 'studios' anymore. Calling it Hollywood Studios, no longer makes sense now that there is little to no elements of the studios aspect left. I miss the MGM Days.

You're far from being the minority...I miss MGM too I like some of the new stuff like Toy Story Mania but am pissed about losing the Osborn Lights at Christmas and Back Lot and Great Movie Ride and One Man's Dream....the parks in general are fading form Walt's ideas and becoming more like a regular boring business than a magical place...to put it simply they are relying on fads instead of special experiences to stay alive and when fads fade so too will tourism and interest

How do I feel? I want to cry. I know it needs a renovation to keep up with the times, but to me it feels like they're trying to erase their roots little by little. I didn't even know there was that much more about the backlot tour. I was too young when they shortened it.

cmm07r I can live with the renovation, but why did they have to get rid of the back lot tour in the Great Movie Ride and catastrophe Canyon? I love those that made the park for me. I loved watching the animators work, we saw them drawing what would become the Little Mermaid.

cmm07r I recently went to the Hollywood studios for the first time, and I liked it, but we finished the park way too quickly, there are very little things to do all day if you don't like rollercoasters or star wars, however, I did like star tours. The thing that made it all worth it for me was fantasmic, even though it was raining. My parents say it was horrible compared to what it used to be, and thats probably true, but overall I would recommend it if you have a park hopper ticket, annual pass, go later in the day, or plan to have a little break day.

I don’t mind Galaxy’s Edge or Toy Story Land, but I wish that they kept some of the iconic sights and rides like the Backlot Tour, the mouse water tower, and especially the Great Movie Ride. I also with they kept the iconic feel of the the OG MGM.

Hollywood Studios used to be my favorite park. I just adored having the opportunity to see real movie props and being part of the processes of movie magic. All the work that went into the making of a movie absolutely fascinated me as a kid, and still does to be fair ! I loved learning about special effects techniques, real behind the scenes stories, iconic film history, and everything that this park used to be about. Now it's just... Star Wars, Toy Story, and Frozen. It doesn't feel like it's about movies anymore, it's just about pushing a franchise up to its maximum profit making capacity. I'm not saying I'm not somewhat excited to discover these new lands, but I don't know, it's not what Hollywood Studios was for me. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, and still keep amazing memories of what it used to be.

I rode Great Movie Ride for the last time over the summer and it's really bumming me out that they got rid of it. It could have been even better if they worked around things breaking down and leaving them broken. It feels like now it's only worth going to the park for only a couple hours. My family likes ToT, Muppet Vision, and Star Tours and that's about it. My brother and I are the only ones who enjoy Rock n Roller Coaster. Who knows how long it'll be until they tear out Muppet Vision, too. My parents are older and really have no interest in the Star Wars stuff or the Guardians of the Galaxy stuff in EPCOT, or the Pandora stuff in Animal Kingdom. And it seems like a lot of people aren't happy with tearing down the iconic rides, too.

  • @kale3563

ssshikari23 agreed. I understand maybe the family takes everyone to Disney and the younger boys aren't too happy about seeing Cinderella's castle sometimes and Hollywood Studios is a good park for them. However, it seems that Hollywood Studios lost what it was made for and kind of revolves around the idea of Star Wars and Indiana Jones and things like that now. I don't find those things interesting, but I'm not the only one visiting the park. However, me and my sister only liked maybe 3 rides from that park and went on them (no exaggeration) 10 times in a row. I'm looking forward to the toy story thing, and I'm not EXTREMELY mad about them taking out the great movie ride (still wanna cry though) because it's not being replaced w some guardians of the galaxy bs. I have high hopes and wish Disney realizes the changes they're making aren't working well with a lot of people

I think they shouldnt have taken down the Backlot Tour ride, its a classic in my opinion and that was one of my favorite rides (until now) i also wish that they never took down the mickey mouse wizard hat. The new star wars land is a good and bad idea. Yes it will be profit and fun for people, but its taking away so much of MGM that its basically its own park. I wish we still had the old MGM and i wouldn't mind having a star wars park, but i hate that its taking away the classics and the great things of MGM.

I loved the Sorcerers Hat. All of the parks have a symbol that really add to the theme of that park. The *Magic* Kingdom has a castle, Epcot has the giant ball, which was from Disney's original plans for his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, from which Epcot gets its name, and the Animal Kingdom has the Tree of Life. The Sorcerer's hat made a much better icon than the tower of terror does now. And there was a really great pin shop under the hat. The unfortunate thing is that it was only intended to be a temporary piece.

  • @whossoul

    @whossoul

    6 жыл бұрын

What they are eliminating is being removed because of a lack of popularity. WDW has plenty of space that they can just build out into without removing anything else. So the choice to remove these things really have nothing to do with the expansions, because there could have easily been both if Disney wanted too. I think they see a desperate need to completely rebrand what had become known as a tired, half day park. While it's sad to see classics go, you also can't expect Disney to hold onto stuff that wasn't popular with the crowds, even if there's a small group that love it.

Totally agree. The Great Movie Ride, for example, was a beautifully fitting and educational tribute to the history of the movies. The identity of the park included many movie franchises, which are slowly being swapped out for purely 'Disney' references. Indiana Jones will be the next to go, I bet (although I really hope not). I know it's a Disney Park, but it's previous referencing of other non-Disney movies is what made the park so different from the other WDW parks.

I loved this video. Extremely informative. My family and I recently went to WDW and spent our last day at Hollywood Studios. I was sad that a lot of the hidden things that I had seen on an Adam the Woo video were gone. My son looked forward to hanging off the Singin' In the Rain umbrella. Alas, not a lot of history is still there with the renovations. I hope they keep the name the same since the new additions are Hollywood blockbusters and hold on the history that they still have. We loved seeing the brass lines for the old parade in the sidewalk!

Great video! My 1st visit to MGM was Aug 1993. It was so much different then. I'm going to miss the GMR, but what I miss the most is the Original, 2-3 hour backlot tour, which was true edutainment!!! I also miss New York Street - that entire backlot steet area was originally themed to New York City. As late as Aug 2015, I would stay at The Studios for Extra-Magic Hours after my family went left. I would go back to NY Street during the last hour and be able to hear the background city noise sounds and for the most part there were very few, if not any other people back there!! I photographed and just walked around and enjoyed the ambiance of the area!! It was great to have a nice chunk of a theme park almost all to myself!!!

It was never supposed to be a permanent fixture or icon. The hat was installed to celebrate Walt's 100th birthday, but ended up being more cost effective to leave up until the need for a major overhaul. When that time came, down went the hat as originally planned. Also, I may be in the minority here, but I hated that hat blocking the view of the Chinese Theater

As I child my family and I took shelter from a sudden rain storm in a building just to the left of the crossroads and during the storm lightning struck Mickey. It was quite a feeling with the bang of the thunder and you could feel the static in the air. Mickey was still shaking 4 hrs later lol. Will always remember that.

For some reason i always loved the outdatedness of Hollywood studios. It made it different from all the other parks and as much as I love Star wars and Toy story i am going to mis the way it was. When my family goes to disney, usually all of us go (so about 10-14 of us). Well one year my cousin from Ireland went with us and he had never been to disney or on a roller coaster before hand. So naturally we took him to the rockin roller coaster but claimed it was an easy ride that was just a tour of rock'n'roll. He believed us until we got to the area we they load everyone into the ride. Thankfully my two uncles were behind him and my dad and older cousin were in front of him to prevent him escaping. They should've just let the theme of Epcot and the Studios the same as it was before with some re-imagining to keep it current but they should've just made another park like DCA (With a different name of course) to put all their themed lands in like Avatar, Toy Story & Star Wars. Its just a shame I cant go on a backlot tour and experience the movies or feel what Epcot was meant to be. Sure IPs representing a country is fine, but a rollercoaster in one of the Epcot pavilion with no Epcot like theme? At least Test track is still somewhat of a 'World of motion'. I once heard someone say Michael Eisner loved the parks and knew what was good for them while Bob Iger doesn't seem to understand how to make the most out of the parks beside that people love quality IP rides, themed lands and transportation methods. But fitting them together the right way?

The thing with Disney parks is that the imagineers respect and honor Disney's history, but are more concerned with making the parks better in any way possible, which I fully support. If there is a ride or attraction that is very popular with the guests, but could use some change to spice it up a little, the Imagineers won't hesitate. Change is good, and it's all about accepting the fact that some things can be improved, even if you don't want it to change

I went, for the first time, in April of 1990. There weren’t a lot of rides open yet; but we had a lot of fun! You really appreciated the street performers back then, and the larger then life studio props. The back lot tour was veeeedrrry long at that point and got boring quick (I was 10!) But the HIGHLIGHT of the trip was seeing the filming of the “NEW” Mickey Mouse Club! It was through glass, not as part of the audience but we thought we were big stuff!

It’s sad that a lot of the classic MGM studios is gone now, but expansion is just part of the process. Over the years, the backlot area of the park was becoming slow, with fewer people visiting this section. The logical thing for Disney to do is to tear-down and expand. As long as they pay homage to what was there originally, I think it’s a great change. Hollywood Studios is my favorite Disney world park and I’m so ready for the new rides and attractions.

When I was a cast member in 2008-2009, as part of the college internship, the day before my roommates and I started our first shifts, we all went to Hollywood Studios. By some marvelous fluke, I was the only one of the eight of us who had been to many of the attractions, including the Backlot Tour and the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. I got them to volunteer for both guest interaction parts (and when the working cast members found out we were interns... oh boy, did they mess with them). It was so much fun seeing them get surprised.

I miss the way it used to be. Some changes have been cool, and I won't lie I'm really looking forward to Star Wars Land, but the theming and feel of Old Hollywood, the magic and grandeur of the Hollywood fantasy, I miss it. The Backlot Tour, Great Movie Ride, even some of the parades. Nothing encapsulates more how much the park has lost that in favor of more IPs and such than the closure of The Great Movie Ride. IT WAS PERFECT FOR THE PARK! Taking it away is like demolishing Pirates of the Caribbean. They could have updated and renovated it...but NOOOOO. Instead they want to give us this underwhelming looking Mickey Mouse ride. A Mickey ride, I'm cool with that. At the expense of The Great Movie Ride? HELL NO! The MGM Studios I remember is what I wanted to share with my wife and kids. What's there now is still good (so far) but NOTHING like the magic it once was.

I totally agree! They make enough money that the royalties they pay for The Great Movie Ride shouldn't have been as big of a concern as closing down the most iconic ride in DHS. And I love Mickey, but they are doing the ride that new style crappy drawing anyway. Even my kids hate the way they are drawing Mickey now. It is like the animators lost their talent! That ride would be better in MK anyway.

I agree a Mickey ride should go in Disneyland/Magic Kingdom. Duh. I also REALLY hate that new style. It's like the animators are letting their 3-year old kids do the drawing instead. Besides, a true Mickey ride ought to showcase all the looks, designs, and styles of Mickey Mouse and cast as they evolved through the years.

I understand you've got to upgrade the park and all because you can't have the same thing all the time, but please. PLEASE DISNEY! Stop taking out complete classics and replacing them with horrible rides. They took out the tower of terror from Disney Land for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (why. NO). No more great movie ride for some Mickey and Minnie thing. I'm very upset that the great movie ride is being completely replaced because that ride is one of the most memorable experiences from when I was like 7, but I'm not completely mad since it wasn't replaced with some overrated movie like guardians of the galaxy or another Star Wars attraction. Also, I love Hollywood studios during my last visit because of tower of terror and rockin roller coaster, but I'm a "classic" Disney lover and don't find Star Wars and Indiana jones very interesting. I'm not saying make Disney World revolve around what I enjoy and I'm glad that Disney is adding in attractions for those who do enjoy the other things, but my god Disney I'm gonna miss the great movie ride and I'm scared the tower of terrors gonna go missing.

I'm sad that for opening the Star Wars thingy at Hollywood Studios, they got rid of being able to take pictures with a stationary Lightning McQueen and Mater, and the Meet-and-Greet with Mike and Sulley, and also changing Pizza Planet to PizzaRizzo because of Toy Story Land. The first movie I ever saw in theaters was Cars, and it remains one of my favorite movies to this day, so it was really cool to be able to take a picture with Lightning and Mater, and very sad to not be able to this year. I also really love Monsters Inc. and Monsters University (but Inc. more) and I remember going to take a picture with Mike and Sulley in 2014 and hugging Sulley and being covered with blue and purple fur for the rest of the day, so I was sad when I returned this year and that was gone, after also having bought Mike's MU hat, and getting my name embroidered on the back. And while I do love the new Toy Story Land, it has one quick service restaurant that's outside, unshaded, and always very crowded, and I wish they could have brought Pizza Planet over from its former home by Muppet Vision.

The short wait time was due to it being one the higher capacity rides at the park. Hollywood studios is what is considered a half day park because at its former/current state there isnt much to do so their daily vistors is lower than other parks. Now most people will flock toward the long wait thrill rides first before moving onto the higher capacity slow moving ride.

Hollywood/MGM has been my favorite park out of the 4. I do understand the renovations and changes, I am honestly excited for them. But I will say that it was amazing because all the wonderful Hollywood flair, I just hope that retains that flair with all the new changes

So long as some remember the history of the parks will never be forgotten. And thanks to you and others the old can still be seen along with the new. After all Walt always said disney would never be complete.

I loved the old MGM Studios. I was very young the first time I went, but I can still remember the first time I went on The Great Movie Ride and the tour. I was even one of the two kids chosen to "ride" the Honey I Shrunk the Kids giant bee prop. I have some great memories at that park. However I completely understand the need to expand and to recreate. That's one of the greatest things about Disney Parks and what really sets them apart from the rest. They are constantly growing and evolving. And I can't wait to see what new things are being brought in to this park.

You have great videos. Best memory of Hollywood MGM Studios - Christmas Lights Tour on the backlot was the best. Even when they closed that down to make the stunt show, the new Osborne Family light show was fantastic, but didn't hold the memories of the original when the backlot neighborhood was lit. It was a tradition for many years with our family. Now the lights are gone completely. :-( Thank you for your videos!

I loved Tower of Terror. The last time we went, it was pretty slow on attendance, so the lines were fast. I rode that thing at least 5-6 times in a row. I got to witness first hand (as I didn't know about it prior) the varying drop cycles incorporated into the ride. I asked my sister and cousin who rode with me if they felt the differences too, and we were like, "let's go again and see if it's different again!" My parents were just like, "are you done yet so we can move on?" "no..." "ok I think so. I'm dizzy now." lol That's probably my favorite memory. I'm also a huge fan of the Aerosmith coaster.
