This + the original Schlitterbahn look to be the best water parks in the business due to their unique attraction lineup, a rarity for most water parks. I love their willingness to build attractions into the hillside and also have attractions like the cliff jumping and the waterslide with the 18 foot jump at the end, those are often the most fun. This place just needs a watercoaster.

Great countdown. I saw that Action Park film they made a few years back a year ago and it was insane. The owner has a touch of craziness, like a cross between Vince McMahon and Jackie Moon from Tropic Thunder. I see touches of craziness on this list, especially with the last 4; definitely safer than the old-school era, but touches indeed. Awesome vid!

It was so much fun as a teenager going to the original Action Park. As long as you were a sane human being, it wasn't dangerous. Of course, there are always idiots who ruin it for everyone else.

So Ifound the minutes from an April 10, 2019 Land Use Board meeting - looks like they wanted to just make the Tarzan Swings lower and bring them back (and do the same with the 18' cliff jump platform), as well as make the Thunder Falls slide at the Roaring Springs part (IIRC the slide whose end is between where Gauley and Thunder Run let out) a body slide like it originally was. Wonder if these ideas are outright abandoned or if just facing delays. Hmm, I'm gonna keep doing my research. EDIT: So far looks like the matter went into 2020, so far not finding any thing public about it beyond that, but again, gonna keep researching.

I had said it before, but many of these attractions, especially the ones at the top of the list, look to be too much for me. I'm not sure if I would enjoy them, but I would have to try Bombs Away and the cliff jump. I wasn't liking the looks of the slides, which is why it got cut from last year's trip to the area in favor of other options. I'm guessing that your feet don't get slammed into the walls on Gauley?

    > *"that park was a f**king death trap!". TBF outside of the alpine slide and wave pool shenanigannery, it seemed like the largest cause of issues was a lack of crowd control, over-availability of alcohol (and lax enforcement of any relevant laws), and advertising to people who didn't know how to swim (where the whole practice of scribbling "CFS" or "Can't Fuckin' Swim" on armbands by lifeguards really accelerated). The original owners did make mistakes a plenty that contributed to safety issues, I won't disagree, but I do also think it is fair to say the "death trap" part (especially today) is a bit exaggerated.
