Fun fact about Be Prepared too: In the middle of the song, Jeremy Irons’s voice blew out (around “you won’t get a sniff without me”), so Jim Cummings had to take over to perform the rest of the song. Goes to show how talented he is as a voice actor because you won’t notice unless you know it already and you’re listening really closely
@Krendall2

Yes, Jim Cummings' impression of Jeremy Irons singing is amazing. There's only a slight change in tone that you don't notice if you're not listening for it. Speaking of Cummings, he also sang "In the Dark of the Night," and his impression of Christopher Lloyd was so good many think Lloyd sang it himself.
What I like about Gaston's song, is that it subverts what you would expect a villain song to be. Rather than having threatening and ominous lyrics, the lyrics are more egotistical and narcissistic. It's still very much a villain song, but in a different kind of way.

Deadass love Count Frolo. His depravity and villainy is arguably the most realistic and human. For that its what make him my favorite Disney villain given how realistic he is.

I wasn't expecting In The Dark Of The Night because I didn't know Anastasia was owned by Disney. But MAN am I glad you put this at number one. This song is CRIMINALLY underrated! Well done Critter!
Since its owned by disney "Its a high to be loathed" by Mr burns from the simpsons Its a song about how the most popular characters of most products are the villains because its just more fun to be the bad guy

In the Dark of the Night, is a really good villain song. Perhaps the ultimate irony in this is that Anastasia was originally made as a attempt to compete against Disney. But is now technically a part of the Disney.

Having Hellfire not at number 1 is a sin. But having In the dark of the night in its place is..okay, I forgive you.
... I find it alarming that you released this after I had a sudden desire to blast the Selena Gomez cover of "Cruella Deville." Incredibly delightful, but also alarming XD
Though if im being honest, while I love Disney Villian Songs. There are many that struggle to live up to DreamWorks Villian songs like "Let My People Go"/"Plagues"which is a duet of the protagonist and antagonist Brothers from Prince of Egypt. If you haven't seen that movie I'd highly encourage giving it a watch.
My Villain Song Ranking: 1.) Be Prepared (Lion King) 2.) Hellfire (Hunchback of Norte Dame) 3.) Friends on the Other Side (Princess and the Frog) 4.) My Lullaby (Lion King 2 Simba’s Pride) 5.) I wanna be like you is not a villain song
@cmcwar

@@kingfisher2569 I mean, the wiki says that it’s a villain song and says that King Louie is a villain. Plus, just because a supporting antagonist sings and not the main villain doesn’t mean the supporting antagonist’s song can’t be categorized as a villain song. Shiny can also be seen the same, since just like King Louie, Tamatoa is only in Moana for one scene. Besides, if there are people who say that Let It Go is a villain song, then I think a song sung by a supporting antagonist can be a villain song
In terms of awesomeness, breathe taking, scary and showing the true colors of the character and their ideology, nothing beats Hellfire. A song that goes right after Quasimodo’s Heaven Light, and showing a beautiful pararell between the monster and the man. Quasimodo sees Esmeralda as light in his dark life, someone who makes him feel special, and meanwhile, Frollo sees her as a witch who must burn if she doesn’t belong to him. Frollo is convinced he’s the good guy, and that Esmeralda is a witch who poisoned him, and he falls into these “sins” even blamming God himself for making the devil stronger than a man. I know Hellfire ain’t the catchiest songs ever, but the ideas it shows, the pararell with Quasimodo’s song, and showing who is the monster and who is the man. I love Hellfire. For me, along side Biggering, the greatest villain songs ever made. Edit: FINALLY SOMEONE ACKNOWLEDGES IN THE DARK OF THE NIGHT!!!
This proves my point that Disney Villains are at their most enjoyable when they are gleeful about being evil. Like Judge Frolo doesn’t want to be evil and Hellfire is a song about his inner turmoil and it’s great but it’s not really a song you have fun with, despite how fascinating it is. Everybody in the top 5 knows they’re evil and enjoys every second of it
Snuff out the light Would have to be up there for me. Kinda cheating, but Eartha Kitt makes magic happen with that number.
I can only wonder what a nightmare the copyright for this video must've been, thank you for your service

YES!
I love to see the love for Dr Facilier here. Princess and the Frog is so underrated, and the soundtrack is easily one of the best Disney has ever done. I mean, it is the one movie that takes place in the Jazz Central, so it has to be amazing otherwise it’s a disservice to the setting. And Keith David’s silky smooth voice is just, ah, it’s the biggest chefs kiss imaginable!
Be Prepared is such an awesome song. You can practically feel the ambition radiating through the screen.
*YES!!!* 😆❤️ 🎶RA-RA-RASPUTIN, RUSSIA'S GREATEST LOVE MACHINE🎶 Btw, the "dark and operatic" music genre is named "Symphonic Rock".
I think the bugs aren't distracting in 'In The Dark Of The Night' because, for how goofy they are, they are still bugs, and their sounds and shapes still have a slightly gross factor to them that compliment the other elements of the song while not distracting from them. Incidentally, if anyone's watched 'Wander over Yonder', then 'I'm the Bad Guy' is a PHENOMENAL song. It's not up there with all the songs on this list but it's a bloody darling to me. I wish more Top 10 Disney Villain Song lists included it. Shame how hard it is to watch the show now; I can't blame anyone for not knowing about it or including it. Also, you got me to listen to 'My Lullaby' for the first time and, damn, that was good. Those goofy minions detracted from it, yeah, and I honestly reckon 'Hellfire' should be above it more for the consistency alone.
Finally someone appreciates my lullaby
If you look in the background of "We don't talk about Bruno" during Delores' part Bruno can be seen dancing in 2nd floor
Friend: Hey do you know how to get last years’ test papers? Me: “I’ve got Friends on the other side”
11:17 that's why I love watching critters videos I love this movie I don't know why alot of others don't critter you have good taste girl
this is like, such a classic youtube topic to me. iconic subject interesting to me that after the last decade or so the list is mostly the same, bruno and shiny being the only """new""" movies to break into that list of 15 or so songs people normally pick. feels like the villain song is kind of a dead art in the new age of redeemable villains that animated movies are in nowadays personally id still put friends on the other side at the top but these were all great picks! :)
My favorite is hellfire i just love songs that feel grant big with a inner conflict in them.
If I had to recommend two Disney Villain songs that were not on this list it have to be: You’re only Second Rate. From The Return of Jafar. Perhaps not as good a sequel villain song as My Lullaby. But still pretty jazzy and fun to watch. And Snuff Out the Light. From The Emperor’s new grove. One that’s incredibly Jazzy and one that you can’t help but want to dance to. The fact that this was sung by the Eartha Kit really makes this song all the better.
OMG your top 4 is the same as mine, I'm so happy that My Lullaby is getting the recognition It deserves, Its so underrated. Also Into the dark of the night is so good, I love the loudness of it and I just got a thing for green lol
Friends on the other side will always be my favorite
If Hans had a real villain song then I would like him a little bit more as a villain
I bet if “Snuff Out The Light” was official I’d be one of the top 3
Spoilers for number one. Watch video to end before reading comments XD Yes do think last one was cheating, but not sure if that's praise for Don Bluth, since that film many say was him giving up to Disney, saying they win and princess films were way to go. Personally think its a plus cos means he out did Disney at their own game XD Hellfire is fave, but one I'll sing is oogie boogie song.
Before seeing No.1 I was going yo make a joke about Dark of the Night.
Rasputin's in the Dark of the Night, one of my fav villain songs. Almost like a Disney Inspired Villain Song and with Disney owning this movie now makes it a Disney Villain song even though it wasn't made by Disney.
Also Jim Cummings took over for Irons after his line “You won’t get to sniff without me!”
A fun detail about Hellfire: When the guard comes in, right after Frollo demands that God "Destroy Esmeralda and let her taste the fires of Hell or else let her be mine and mine alone", the previously hellish room is temporarily bathed in a bluish light. It's almost as if God is giving Frollo his answer. God has let her escape Frollo's clutches; she is not Frollo's to claim or kill. And when Frollo tells the guard "Get out, you idiot!", he is symbolically saying that to God without knowing it. And in the final shot, where the room is bathed in blue once again as Frollo falls to his face, it's as if Frollo has crumbled under the judgement of Heaven.
20:05 That line gave it right away for me; an excellent choice!
I mean not expecting but expecting other top 10’s like the I want songs, sidekick songs etc.
Disney Villains love to ham things up.
You have no idea how happy it makes me that My Lullaby and In the Dark of the Night are on this list! I f-ing LOVE those songs!! They hardly ever get included in top villain songs lists and it is such a shame! Great list!! Love every song here!!
They funny thing about Anastasia and it’s historical inaccuracy is that no one wants an accurate version of it. Unlike Pocahontas, which people will freely rag on for the over-sexualizing of the main lead, Anastasia is one of those movies where we are all like, “Nah. Let’s-let’s keep the fantasy fairytale”. That’s what tragedy does. I think Rasputin would probably have preferred to be the villain vs what the family really faced. But hey, that’s my head-canon to not only justify this glorious movie, but also to handwave the sadness that real story brings me. Important to learn so as we don’t ever repeat history, but still very sad.

Cool video! Can you please do a review about Tangled? :) Also really surprised but awesome you put In the Dark of the Night as 1, despite Anastasia isn’t Disney (wasn’t made by Disney, sorry)
About your #1... I'll allow it.
Hellfire has one moment that's hard to notice on an intial watch. One of the verses says "Destroy Esmerelda, and let her taste the fires of Hell! Or else let her be mine, and mine alone." Frollo is praying for God to either get rid of Esmerelda, or have her fall in love with him. God _deliberately_ answers the first request. Having Esmerelda escape captivity and be at large. Frollo can free himself of this curse set upon him by simply refusing to pursue her. This is made apparent when the guard who informs Frollo of this is bathed in a glorious light, his face obscured as he delivers God's message to the darkened hellscape Frollo has found himself in. Frollo's response to this? "I will find her. I will find her if I have to burn down all of Paris!" Frollo, who sees himself as the most righteous man alive. Outright _defies God's will_ in pursuit of Esmerelda. This choice has him showing a few of the Seven Deadly Sins. Envy: Frollo is envious of Quasimodo's relationship and affection with Esmerelda Wrath/Anger: Frollo stays true to his word, and brings his wrath upon the innocent citizens of Paris in his pursuit of Esmerelda. Lust & Greed: Frollo is only doing this because he wants Esmerelda for himself. The visual of him caressing Esmerelda in the smoke during the 'let her be mine and mine alone' line emphasizes this. Pride: Frollo has the _audacity_ to defy God's will, and turn down his salvation as he has no doubt in his mind he can make Esmerelda his. All of these combined mix into the perfect, literal melting pot for the final confrontation between Frollo and Quasimodo, which results in the former's inevitable demise, as both his physical form and his soul plummet to the depths of Hell where God has deemed he belongs. In this one scene, Hellfire has shown a man, righteous to a fault, defy so many of the principles he thought he lived by, in such beautiful nature, to show us the monster Frollo truly is. It's a fucking masterpiece. And don't get me started on the song itself!

Dangit my pick didn’t make it in. Anyway let it go is actually a villain song. It was intended to be a villain song and was that good they redid the entire movie cause it wasn’t working with Elsa as the villain anyway. I don’t know how you can hear “standing frozen in this life I’ve chosen. You won’t find me, the past is all behind me, buried in the snow.” And not see that as a villain letting loose. Let alone when she doesn’t give a shit about the town being frozen over

The problem she or at least her problems and consquences, are the villain thopu, or th problem. And hans isnt really the villain in any sense it would matter. Honestly the thm of arranged marriages not ideal woul have worked better if he was the worst, and terrible, but not evil, but having good intention terribly misguided. That arent ok. You dont have him evil to freak out, be an oppotunist or being a terrible partner. Sop yeah else loosing it should be the villain, notnessesary herself but all that played up to it and her issues. The snow queen int that bad as villain either, in the original. Anna having to rescue her from herself is a pretty good moment too. I it didnt work, they just dint try enough. Bcaue hans certainly is nothing but confusing.

@@marocat4749 yeah the version we got removed a very important factor in both let it go and doing a reprise of first time in forever instead of the song originally there: Elsa knew she froze the kingdom and did not give a fuck.
I feel like I always go back and forth on which song is my favorite (right now it leaning towards be prepared) There is a reason actors love playing villains, they can essentially ham it up both in performance and song, and I think that’s why we all love them so much and why their songs stand out so much. One villain song I do feel is underrated is “Snuff out the light” yeah I know it was cut technically, but it’s so much fun (and it was put on the soundtrack for a reason)
I'm so glad Mine is getting the villain song recognition it deserves. I always saw it as a villain song for both Ratcliffe and Smith, since both of them see the land as something to be exploited and tamed before Smith meets Pocahontas and changes his view
I love villain songs! Not just Disney's villain songs but most of not all animated villain songs. I agree with most of your list(I have a hard time picking just 10 songs I love however), I just have 2 songs I have something to say about. Now I absolutely love both Shiny and In the Dark of the Night(In the Dark is one of my all time favorite villain songs ever) however I'm not the biggest fan of the video that plays during the song. There's this my KZreadr in the Brony fandom called InkPotts, an animation 2 person channel, that do these amazing animatics using My Little Pony FiM characters. InkPotts had two major animatic series the 1st being the Jackyl and Hyde the musical songs with Pinkie Pie as both characters. This series uses 4 songs of Dr Jackyl and Mr Hyde's musical version with David Hasselhoff as Dr Jackyl and they are so we'll produced that InkPotts picked another musical The Count of Monte Cristo with Rainbow Dash as the Count, Fluttershy as his former lover, Twilight as his ex best friend, Applejack as the Judge who sent The Count to rot in France's most notorious prison and Pinkie Pie as the Greedy Banker who was embezzling money from the trading company he, the ex best friend, and the count worked together at. It's a 6 part animatic series using 4 of the most popular songs in the musical and 2 transition songs to help tell the story. Then InkPotts did an animatic with In the Dark of the Night using King Sombra as Rasputin and Twilight as Anastasia and the other 3 Princesses as the Russian royals and even though some of the lines are changed to fit the MLP storyline better than the original somehow I still vastly prefer this animatic over the original video, I would love to see this animated to be honest but I still love it all the same. And the other song is Shiny, there's a Lusamine animatic version GinjaNinjaOwO with Lusamine as Tamatoa and it surprisingly fits well. Now again I do like the original videos but I do also like the MLP animatics a little bit more.
I was really happy to see My Lullaby so high on the list because I LOVE that song and I find it such a shame people don't talk about it more. I was OBSESSED with the romanian version aka my first language when I was little because IT FUCKIN SLAPS AND THE VA FOR ZIRA DID AMAZING AND I'M BEGGING EVERYONE WHO READS THIS TO GO CHECK IT OUT IT'S ON KZread PLZZZ🙏🙏😭😭😭(I'm so normal about this hahaha😁🤗🥰the video with the english translation isn't fully accurate btw)
Pretty decent list, I’m glad we’re appreciative about the villains we have whilst lamenting the lack thereof of them in recent times…..
I haven’t seen a lot of these movies 😓 but I like this list and agree with most of it!
Was not expecting to see "My Lullaby" on this list, but as a huge Lion King fan I am thrilled to see it included! I know this is considered blasphemyamkng Lion King fans, but I like "My Lullaby" better than "Be Prepared."
About number 9:: there was one time where a boy in middle school at the mall I go to who asked me if I saw Encanto and when I said yes, he sang and danced to We Don’t Talk About Bruno. That’s how you know a song is good. And that boy is braver than I am too lol
My favorite villain song is lion king- be prepared and Anastasia- dark of the night Those songs are 🔥
"Hellfire" will always be my favorite. It's so intense and a piercing insight into his character.
Out of curiosity, what's your opinion on "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind" from The Great Mouse Detective? While there is a break between the two halves of the song, its a bop that really set the tone for the Renaissance Era's villain songs. Not to mention that it's pretty obvious that real-life cartoon character Vincent Price is having a ball performing the song; he even admitted later that he enjoyed playing Ratigan so much specifically because he got to sing as part of the role.

mother knows best may sound lighthearted but it is darker than most as its just showing gaslighting in song form
Even though Bruno is not a villain, "We Don't Talk About Bruno" is still a villain song imo. It's the family's villain song. It's them expressing their reasoning for pushing him out and villainizing him. None of them are evil, but the things they're expressing in this song are. That said, it definitely deserves a low spot on the list due to not being sung by or about actual villains.
Who doesn’t like the villains songs ? Not me.

I Think Dr.Facilier He Does Have Some Of Judge Frollo and Jafar in him.❤️🖤💜🔥🃏🧞♂️
I wonder what does the random "testify" even mean in Lullaby.
Frollois soo good, its so real, and he isnt just evil, by making it about his own supression its also really good commentary, and tragic, and human . And all of leads to making him so much worse an scary. (as opposed to frodo who gets over his jealosity) . And i think its playing the queer angle up too about selfloathing leading to bad places. maybe?! Becaue disney has a lot of queer artists?! And varian, oh varian is there. And yes he copunts as villain that season. I woul say we dont talk about bruno is about the villain, or at least what wents very wrong. Th beautiful disharmony , thats the villain, that bruno i blamed, all that , is what is the villain. So i would argu its a villain song, even if the villain isnt bruno, it their whole disharmony a family coming from the granmas trauma tricklin down, And runo, is a victim. But its also here that shows that omething is not well,nd it not bruno. Hans should never have been the villain, becaue he sure wasnt relevant fin anytheme as villain, elsa was, or at leat her isolation, was the villain. He was at best an opportinist. That was not relevant in the movie at all.And the one thing he did call a witchhunt against else, literally anyone but anna in th castle could have done so. Plus it fairly reasonable in that situation, its bad, but reasonable. Wy isnt he just a misguided opportiunist jerk that is just awful, but not evil. that h is evil really plays down the whole message too. an he can be even wore, if he is no mastermind, but just the worst, including her realizing she doesnt like arrange marriages. Hans just should e a situational villain at best, that i the worst and hatable, but reasonable, not eeevil. That elsas problems ccan be the villain.
I miss old disney
I would personally rate Friends on the Other Side and Gaston a bit higher, and yes, using Dark of the Night is cheating, but hey, I'll allow it. Gonna be controversial here and say my personal favorite Disney Villain song is Jafar's brief reprise of Prince Ali. Genuinely think about it more than the original song, and that song is right next to Friends on the Other Side and Friend like me in favorite Disney Songs ever.
I miss it when Disney had actual villains
So I guess we’re counting Anastasia as a Disney movie now.

The relationship between Flynn and Rapunzel is really good, but I don't like the flow of their adventure. The same forest locations feels like they're not progressing a lot, and I think Mother Gothel and the twins had untapped potential. As for the songs, they're all just a bit too "2010's pop-song"-y to me. Their fine, but nothing that really stands out compared to other Disney films. Although, the actual score of the film is really great, the song that plays when Rapunzel and Flynn and wandering around the castle town is PEAK music!
