Hey Mark, love your videos. I know this is a older video but a suggestion on the air filter. When I take a long trip into a remote area I bring a spare air filter oiled up and put it in a zip lock bag and push the air out before closing, flattens down to almost nothing. Then take a second zip lock and put the bagged filter in with a pair of latex gloves, seal it up and you can change the filter mid trip and no oily hands. You also have a bad to put the dirty filter in. Thanks for your videos.

You pointed something obvious out to me that I always carry in the truck but I did not have on the bike and that is some sort of light. It takes up so little space but I didn't have it on the bike. I put a headlamp in my kit today. Thanks Mark.

Mark, recently I discovered that Snap-on tools makes a dual gear ratchet in 1/4" drive that can take over 90lbs of torque. That little thing can take off wheels and more plus I can add the long spark plug socket to lengthen the handle. Pricey but worth it for ability and light weight. For my street bike I have a tire plug kit and a mini air compressor I got for 35 bucks made for motorcycles. I dont ever want to be stranded on my bike, and If I have to leave it, it will likely be stolen nowadays. Lately I've been only using the tools in the tool kit to do all work. A good way to find out how badly you failed the first time to make a real tool kit. hehe

Tools for chain lube: old toothbrush and gear oil (even old) 90W?. -Better and cheaper than anything else. Cool vid. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks.

Great video, that's what we're doing right now before the riding season... going over all our equipment making sure we're not missing anything in case we get stranded. The hair net was a great tip, definitely going to pick some of those up. **Only things we could think of to add is: Spare spark plug, 2+ feet of electrical wire, fuel hose, and a spare fuse is also handy to have just in case something happens.** Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

Remember Slime comes in two types, tubeless and tube tires. It's Great Stuff. Finally warm enough to ride here. I just got back with my first long ride on the DR650 ,100 mi. today. 200 mi. in 2 days. The bike ran super. 2 and 4 lane highway.(Oh,Wv.USA) lots of Fun. Great Vid. Thks.

Hi Mark. Another great video. thanks. one thing that I take on all our 4x4 trips and also my africa twin rides is silicone tape. comes under many names such as SOS and Tommy tape but it's amazing at fixing splits in hoses and pipes. holds hydrolic pressure so is great for the radiator hoses that are rough to get replacements for in the outback. Thanks for effort you put in every week on your channel.

Hi Mark, Slime is good stuff.But don't try fix a puncher with it, thats a shitty job( need to spin the tyre with it in)The trick is to put it in your tyre from the start so it PREVENTS punchers. So put it in and all will be good.Here in South Africa we have very bad roads, so every time i put new tyres on my DR, i put 2 bottles of SLIME in each tyre. Have Not had a flat tyre in years and i often cross the Great Karoo!!!! Thanks for the great Simpson trip.

Epoxy didnt work for me cuz i have a 2009 dayun cargo motorcycle in iraq and i use it for transporting engines ect and the side door hing just broke and i used epoxy smells like shit and got it on my hands and afterwards it broke while i was driving and iv been driving 40minutes sooo embarassing i think i hit some people walking cuz its just hanging giving high fives

Always good seeing what tools someone else carries. There are a few things you mentioned that I think I need to put in my kit if I plan on a bigger trip. Your kits looks pretty damn thorough but if I could recommend anything it would be to put a pair of needle nose vice grips in your kit. mine come in so handy. they work for either those hard to reach bolts or as a third hand to hold things in place while you do your repairs.

Just finished Riding the Tintaldra TT through the Snowy Mountains. One of the guys was smart enough to bring spare clutch and brake levers. Great idea i thought

Stainless hose clamps., they're tough, can be joined together,I've seen them (with a splint ) hold a frame together in an energency.I carry them.The top off an old nylon tent, together with some reuseable tarp clips ,elastic cords & any line can make a great (fit in your pocket ) rain shelter.

there are 2 tools that I found most useful that will get you out of trouble, and they don't even take up much space....Credit Card & Mobile phone...that's what I am doin. The rest is too much hassle and you might still need a tool that you didn't take...but each to there own. Thanks for sharing Cheers

Mark, great vids. Just a comment on this, I would definitely use the tyre irons, get the light ones from motion pro including the bead busters which are also leavers. I have split a tube a couple of times and then slime is just slime......

Great video! I use a tire product called Ride-On. It's a lot like slime, but it also balances your tire. I did a video review on my channel of it in my DR 650. I'll be testing the puncture sealing ability this summer as I'll need new tubes on my next tire change (every other tire gets a new tube). Keep up the good work Mark!

hey mate the slime stuff works good if you put it in the tubes before the ride as if you get a puncture it will automatically seal it up only thing is you may loose a couple psi but alot of the time you wont even notice it. i once got it to seal up a puncture and it didnt work for me when i tried to pump it up it forced all the slime out

Good stuff man .... Never hurts to see what others are using .

dr 650 Id take Adjustable wreches puncure repair aersol and allen keys (replaced most of screws for allen keys) a good flash light or headlamp...

Great video Mark, do you remember a couple vids ago u dumped Max over? when you picked up the bike it was a little hard to start. The fuel drained out of the carburetor float bowl and either ran into the air filter or into the cylinder, if it goes into the cylinder it will flood the spark plug out and you'll have to clean it, lol you were so close to needing that, so I always carry an extra plug and some sand paper or emery cloth to clean the old plug. OH and ur not an idiot , ur awesome and I would ride with you any time .

Motorex chain lube comes in a tiny 50ml aerosol that can be refilled from the standard size can. The off-road stuff has Teflon in it which is awesome for keeping the dirt n crap off Great video as alway Edit: just realised how old this vid is lol

Mark ... lubing the chain ,if your going to do it ,your better off doing when you pull up for the day .The chain will be hot to warm and the lube will penetrate much better allowing it to soak in over night .Personally i dont lube my chain ,only after a wash i spray with silicon spray to get the water off and stop rust .Quality Oring chains IMO dont need lubing when looked after.I have clocked 1,000's and 1,000's of dirt and desert riding and never lubed a chain ,i get 20,000 kms from chains and sprockets often .. Great vid and it's great to watch you develop into a season dirt rider

Nice one! it's good to see what other people take. I guess this falls more into spares than tools but I always like taking a spare clutch cable and lever but I reckon I'll be taking some if that epoxy stuff from now seems pretty decent for temporary repairs

Gday Mark really enjoy your videos and after 5 trips on my Low rider from Perth To Melbourne and back over the last 3 years, I always take some goodies with me, my zip ties,spare spark plug & spanner, gaff tape, spare tubes & Tyre breakers,plus some adjustable wrenches are my favorites plus always some spare fuel Ran out once two kl ms from Nullarbor Roadhouse . Again mate really enjoy your videos and love your DR,don't let the whiners get to you about the fags either (-:

I wouldn't use wd-40 to lube your chain. Wd-40 is a degreaser so it will break down the lube/oil on your chain. That is why it is great for cleaning a chain and rinsing off then lubing

G'day Lemon, thanks for the comment mate. I have to agree and disagree with you :-) WD-40 is not a "degreaser" its base functions are to clean, protect, lubricate, penetrate and drive out moisture. It is not classed as a degreaser at all. I agree that I would not use it as a sole lubricant for my motorcycle chain, but in a situation where I had nothing else I would use it 100%. This has always been one of those debatable things! :-) Cheers... Mark

Yeah your are right the mate. I've just always been told it's a degreaser even though a lot of people use it as some sort of lube. I used to use it on my bike cycles when I was younger as a lube but it always made my chain go dry and stiff and I couldn't understand why until someone said its a degreaser and it just made sense to me guess. Thanks for the reply and teaching me something new about WD-40. I use it a lot for cleaning oily or really mucky parts of my bike. Thanks again LSM

you might want to look at getting a Batlight. Available at Bunnings for $27. Bit bigger than the ones you showed but really brilliant little thing to have.And rechargable 240V and 12V with cables supllied
