Ethan, I remember being in art school being taught stuff like "don't use a ruler." "Referencing things from photographs is cheating." Then when I asked to see my teacher's own work I'd be told "I don't do any art of my own." I honestly learned more from your videos in about 5 minutes.

Art teachers that don't do art??? My mom was an art teacher. She really liked drawing girds on photos and then using the grid to help her replicate the photo in a drawing.

That was strait forward as hell. The only change I would make is you are gonna need scratch paper to layout your panels. At Blick supplies, online, you can buy 100 sheets of loose leaf drawing paper for like $4. 500 sheets for about $12. Man, you are killing it on the fan outreach here. Keep it up, my man!
Umm, where's your herald saying, "Make way, make way. The great EVS shopeths at thine Michaels!" 4/10 - too little ego.

One interesting thing about that Faber-Castell brush tip at 7:00 is that you can take the tip out once it gets frayed, and then stick it back in the other way-essentially replacing the tip for free. As far as I know, it's the only brush tip pen that can do this, because it's the only kind where the inner section and the tip are the same shape. EDIT: Ditto on the lack of Bubblicious. When did _that_ happen?

I remember meeting Ethan years ago in Orlando @ a small comic convention. He was very humble, gave excellent & very clear sound advise for comic book artist & took his time explaining to me how the industry works & what I could do to improve as an Artist even drew a sketch in my sketchbook & signed it. 1 of the best in the business 4real!! Thanks Ethan
Lol, "Good rulers are transparent." Always great humor in your videos.
This was great help. This is awesome of you. Thank you so very much for this!
I love how he has spent his money on these circle templates earlier on the channel, just to know later on he uses the same circle templates to measure the size of Rian Johnsons perfectly round head 😂
You are shopping wrong. Use your cell phone and get a 40% off coupon for one expensive item. Put it in your car and come back in and pay for the rest. Get a friend or your wife to do the same thing. If you get on their email list you can get more coupons. If you have a Hobby Lobby they have some nice supplies as well, usually cheaper. Again, use your coupons. Love the video! By the way, my hubby just showed me a Green Lantern Omnibus that has your artwork (I had no clue who you are) and you are amazing.

Finally made it to Michael's and got the circle template and the ruler. 12 dollar ruler? Geesh. 40% coupon on that one. LOVE the ruler and circle template once I started drawing out a whole cloth quilt pattern that needed straight lines and half circles. Most quilting rulers are crap for design work so this is awesome! Thanks for the video. You made my quilt top so much easier to draw out and will look awesome once quilted.
I wanted to hire someone to draw an album cover for me, fuck that I'm doing it myself. Ethan this channel is great. Learned a lot fast, used to draw like crazy as a kid. Making my own album cover is crazy satisfying.
I can't draw for shit, but this was still super interesting!

Thank you for your professional advice EVS. This video has taught me a lot. Thank you again for your wisdom Ethan.
I have to say after using Pigma Microns for years, and still do since I have a lot of them, Copic Multi Liners are wonderful to work with! Also I loved that bumper sticker but I need one that says my cat is a non voting felon.
Ethan, thank you for all you do. Have you been to Hobby Lobby yet? It's like an artist's toy store. Wow, thanks again, your lessons have inspired and has helped me to increase my productivity. I pray that 2023 brings you more success and happiness. God bless you! 🙌🏾
Thank you for this helpful video uncle Ethan! I recently started to practice sketching, your work and channel is what gave me the push to do it.

Great advice Ethan your artwork is inspiring thanks for helping people choose the right supplies. Much appreciated
I am SO glad I surfed across your channel! I used to love drawing, then I lost my vigour, now I am slowly getting back into it again.
Thanks bra. Useful information with no padding, and basic explanations as to why. This is really helpful.
Certainly helpful, a great kit to start making comics the pro-way. you can't go wrong with any of the tips Ethan gave us here.
Thanks for this Ethan, I'm sure I watched this when you first made it, but was just wandering around Michaels with one of my girls the other day and we watched together in the pen aisle. It had been picked over pretty good so we didn't actually get to buy anything, but I just put together an order for Christmas gifts for my oldest daughters that have gotten really into art and drawing.
This is all great stuff for basic machining, ty Ethan.

Legends say to this day, these supplies are what were used to draw Cyberfrog: Blood Honey.

Just found your channel. Love your work, have a few pieces you did for me on comic covers. They will never leave my collection. Thanks for sharing.
Wow Uncle Ethan, you have no idea how much I appreciate this video. Thank you and a hundred thumbsup.
Thank you, thank you, thank you this video has litterly changed my artistic life. Uncle Ethan is the man.
This is amazing. And I mean like for real. Ethan you're great, and I'm honestly moved. Right now for my minor crisis in inspiration (I'm a composer) I just draw my first in life Batman. Extremely simple, BTAS based, just 10 minutes of drawing. And now I'm happily going back to my main thing. And you inspired me. Thank you!
This is great I always like knowing what people use for there art helps me find thing I might have missed.
This. Made me smile
Great video, EVS.
This is the most useful video I have seen my entire life! After watching a bunch of stupid videos talking about comic supplies, this one has actual affordable and good quality comic supplies!!!!!!! Than you so much!
Definitely seen the brush on that Pitt B go raggy after not too long. This was a great video and very helpful for my next run.
THANKS!!! I NEEDED THIS!
Just bought that led holder at Michaels for you Anyone can draw videos!! Also when going to Michaels, always google their coupons. They always have a good deal that you can pull up on your phone. On Saturday I got 50% off my led holder
Found this v helpful - I'm experimenting with drawing my own comic book so am looking at vids like this for help and advice :D
Hey thanks for doing that Ethan. You gave me a better option for filling in a large black areas. I would add a good gum eraser. I use it to lighten my pencils before i ink but hey thats just me. Thanks again love what your doing with the channel
Thanks my man, was trying to get back into drawing, this definitely inspired me.
Ethan, Thank you for the tip on art supplies!! It was nice to see Ava!! She is a cutie!!

Thank you for this! I'm getting that big fat ink pen and the ruler. Extremely helpful stuff here :)
Ethan have you thought about offering a master class? I may never get hired at marvel or DC but I would love to draw my own comics. I have good understanding of anatomy but my perspective kind of blows and i love yours
Love your work and your attitude.
She's adorable !
Very cool! I wish my local Michaels had that much variety in inking pens though. :(
Really useful and cool vid :D I've always wanted to make my own series on a superhero fight club but I've never been that good at drawing, I do animations more and I might be thinking of doing the comic series that way? I also love Staedtler pencils and I often use biro as I like the feel of them.
Staedtler, Faber Castell, Schwan-Stabilo...German quality pens & pensils. Don't remember seeing them in the US when I lived there in the 90s
thanks for the tips, greatly appreciated!
