Can't believe you haven't seen that video. Mrs O even mentions it from time to time here on SMA channel. I believe it was on a Nissan Sentra that you have to replace the whole lower control arm instead of the ball joint. He found a ball joint somewhere and welded her to keep her from spinning.

It's made worse by the fact he can't weld for shit.
Sometimes homemade tools are where it's at. It's especially awesome when they work better than you thought they would.
Genius in its simplicity. Don't ya just love it when home made tools work!?
Good job Eric O. On the homemade ball joint puller 1.0 You made that look easy eric . Can't wait for another video thanks
Awesome little invention :) I love how the smallest parts/tools can save the most time.
Awesome idea. Necessity breeds invention. Good job Eric!
Great job! Love it when people make their own tools. Probably works faster too!
It’s just awesome when you come up with a slick tool to get a job done. You’ve made another excellent video, Eric, thank you.
Sweet!! Now that's using your noodle! Awesome example of improvise adapt and overcome sometimes the simplest things makes the job easier thanks for the awesome video and 💡 idea Eric O
Brilliant Eric! Why has nobody every thought of this before? Crazy! Love watching your videos, you are a logical, engineering type dude than just an every day mechanic, looking forward to the next one :)
Where there's a will, there is a way. And nothing gets done by the unwilling. Great work Eric.
My man is killin it with the uploads......
Killer video necessity is the mother of all inventions.
That is beautiful Eric! Whoever said this was'nt kidding~ "Necessity is the mother of invention".
Hey Eric, Thanks for all the great videos! I've done a few Subie ball joints and found using a small chisel tapped in the gap on the ball joint yoke helps reduce the grip on the ball joint has in the yoke. Rich, Albany.NY
Good homemade tool...ive made several pullers and bearing removal tools from old sockets etc...glad to see it worked first time...
Wow, Eric O. That is an incredible design. I am always impressed with your videos! As a 25yr mechanic your videos inspire me when i have tuff issues. I just wish more garages in my neck of the woods was as diagnostically diligent as you. We all kno that guessing can cost more in the long run. If i am ever in your area i would love to visit and maybe sling a wrench or two for you, for free of course! Well wishes to your and yours!
Great way and thanks for the tip for ppl who dont own a lift to cup it and extract it out keep up the great video and tech tips.
Necessity is the mother of invention. Good job.
Love it, you have to use what works it's that simple! Thanks for showing us, Mechanics like you help the normal DIYers do stuff at home, I love it. Give me a "Mom and Pop" shop over a Dealer any day! WORK HARD DREAM BIG Eric! Thanks a lot we really enjoy your videos here at Huber's Ranch!
I used this general idea and you are a genius. EJ. To Eric O.
Good job man , the simplest things always seem to work the best
1_2 BARBEQUE!! Now Why didn't I think of that? Keep 'um comin' Eric. Thanks for sharing your expertise. Kevin in King, NC
This made my day, Great work Eric O!
I have the same slide hammer made by OTC. Great tool.
Eric, I made and used one of these about 2 weeks ago. It worked just like the video shows. Amazing! Judging by what I can see in your videos, I think Illinois rust might be worse than New York rust, if you can believe that. I’ve heard tales of a place where cars aren’t rusty and one man can do a dozen or more alignments in a single day because nothing is frozen. I don’t know if it’s an urban legend but it sure makes for a nice dream. It’s right up there with the dream of working in an air conditioned shop. 😎
Great idea. I made one of the pipe units to use when flat backing. The slide hammer (10lb) with the vicegrip attachment over the balljoint nut works well if I am on the lift. I will have to weld a couple of nuts together and continue to pay royalty through Patreon. Thank You Eric
Nice job Eric , $0.32 cents for the nut , $200.00 for the welder and $2,000.00 for a lift so that the slide hammer can fit under... not a bad deal , but never the less that is a sweet idea... thanks bro.

He could sell it all as a kit and still be cheaper than the Snap-on tool.👍
This is great. I’ve worked on mostly in Asian and European cars, and lot of times some hand made or self invented tools are best and almost free. I recently replaced front ball joints in 03 Forster. Harder part for me was removing bottom part than upper part that stuck in pinch bolt area. An attached to control arm and giving couple of strikes with 2-3 feet long 2x4 worked great for me. Love your video in real time and shows trying out different techniques when some fails. You have luxury of lift which I don’t and I’ve spent more time for set up in slope driveway than tackling hardest tast. Appreciate your time to create great memories. Thanks again.
Ive always used a slide hammer on those. Use the old castle nut and slip the hammer on. Good as done!
Congratulations. Serious good of you to share.
Awesome idea thanks for sharing, I love coming up with time saving tools I have quite the selection, work smart not hard :)
Nice sweet & simple homemade tool to get the job done!👍
Lol!!, Something so simple makes life so much easier. Nicely done! I like it.
Hell of a job Eric nice find I must say.. You are well ahead of your time and I appreciate you sharing this method.. but I would have love to see how pop that new joint back in ... other than that Great Job Brother..
You are so cool man , you have respect for your family and the public you don't use foul talk you just real brother I have been working on cars sense high school from the late 70s ,i love the way you trouble shoot and you share your knowledge that's why GOD has blessed you and your family some much.hey brother may GOD continue to pour his blessings on you
Any way to save time, fix the problem and make you money is a win-win.
Outstanding idea
Awsome idea man. I work on alot of cars and trucks but have used the c clamp ball joint tool. Ive done those ball joints like the 1 you juat showed using a impact deep socket and wide sleeve on the bottom and 3/4 drive ratchet.
No, you won't see it on the Snap-On truck for $80 ... it'll be $180 .. plus tax! :D Nice job! I've been doing ALOT of things the hard way before I discovered KZread. Just used Big Nasty the other day on those 4 tie rod ends (drag link setup) on a '04 Grand Cherokee - dropped all of 'em right out in less than 10 seconds each! Love that thing! Thanks for introducing us to Big Nasty too! BIG, DOUBLE thumbs up!!

Smitty Smithsonite buy the crap on one and return it ...after you use it lol.
I love making my own tools....when they work! Nice job!!!
Very simple and effective tool. Great idea. Have you considered putting a jack stand under the lower arm to keep it from moving when you used the slide-hammer? This will eliminate any stress on other suspension components when you apply the force.

The bottom arm isn't attached during the ball joint removal?
Great paint job!
Well, I have the welders but am disabled so cannot lay under the vehicle but could lift it up in the front end some way. Nice going, make sure to get the credit for this. Aloha from Maui
Simple but effective. Can't beat that!
Awesome creation !
Very good Eric I'm impressed
Looks like you got it right on the first version, No further development needed! Haha good job Eric :)

Awesome Mr. O! What an awesome tool!
I’ve actually attempted this with a slide hammer before. The problem is like other have stated, most of us will be on the ground so there isn’t space for a slide hammer vertically. And then if you remove the knuckle you need to find a really good way of holding it and that is also a pain. On the other hand, the other tools that you make at home require welding so that’s an issue too.
Love the tool!! You just saved yourself a whole lot of trouble you clever son of a gun! Have you seen them anywhere? You've got something there, whip up a crap load and stick 'em on Amazon for a couple of bucks, extra dough for whatever. Thanks for the video.
Nice! SMA's SBJP tool. Get cha' one. Thanks Dr.O!
Nice job, I like seeing things like this.
Mr. O "THE TOOLMAKER!" "EXCELLENT VIDEO ! ! FANTASTIC ! !
I find that most tools attached to a guy with a couple of nuts work great.
great idea, keep it simple, always works best
Nice! Home made tool for the win!
I hope u go forward with it. I created some tools that I showed my snap on guy. He thought they were great. A few years later he makes fun of me because I never went through with pushing or presenting my tools to the world. If you make em'. I'll buy.. Take care young fella FM
awesome as always cool thinking on the tool.

Don't you just impress the hell out of yourself sometimes!! Seriously though Eric, as you were explaining some of the difficulties with Subaru's a "threaded rod coupling" popped into my head but I hadn't thought of using the slide hammer......KISS principal! Coolness: 5/5
U C, IMAGINATION. Whatever makes da job easier. Good work.
That's freaking great. Awesome!
Nice one Eric it just shows you its the simple things like that that makes the world go around patient pending.ahem.lol
Brilliant idea for the SBJ puller, I hope when you retire you can still stay on U Tube.
First finally and love homemade tools sometimes there better than what you can buy.
nice tool you rock eric
Nice. We use a metal shaft that threads on the ball joint and has a j hook at the bottom you put your big nasty on pulls it in like 5 hits works just as good and easer on the shoulders!!!
Like I said, Subaru engineers are the nerdiest nerds. Everything they do on these cars is for a reason. Like I said on his previous ball joint video, it took so long because he was doing it backwards. Yes, this job takes a few seconds when you do it correctly. They put the control arm there for you to use it as a lever. Eric, you should have an Ebay listing for these. I wouldn't mind paying $50 for it.
Sweet idea Eric..
I just take the pinch bolt out and then use a bull pin between the lower control arm and knuckle, just under where the pinch bolt is, I hit the bull pin with a big hammer a few times and the ball joint comes right out. This method worked for me all the time.
Looks like a great idea 👍
Mr O for president!
Bish bash bosh and its off. Your the man EricO.
Here is another great tip from SMA
I'd by one from you and I don't even own a Subaru, but I can show it sitting in my tool box and be like "Oh Yeah, I got Eric O's Sabaru ball joint tool!" Way cooler than Snap On stuff. 😏
Love the Beker music at the end!
10 POUNDER is about 5 pounds more than a 5 pounder, I need to write that down so I never get that mixed up again , good stuff !!! TY for the puller tool tip, great idea!!
well its geometry . Straight down is least resistance instead of angle whack. but any time you want things out from press fit its always best for 90 degress than 80 degrees. keep up the incredible new tools
I'm a subaru apprentice. I'll be making one on Monday. Where do I send the royalty check.

Wow great vid. I love your channel.
SWEET! I'm Impressed!
Cool tool to have in the ammo box! Best use of two nuts at one time I have ever seen, well on a Subaru. just sayin
Well done! That's using the old noodle!
Kewl Beans! I.m making one of those tomorrow. KISS principal at its finest.
Just watched a video. Matco now makes this tool!!
Awesome. Great idea!
Eric patent that idea. Snap on will make money off your idea. That sliding hammer idea works great. 👍👍👍
I just love it, ha ha ha. You deserve 29.99 for that new invention. Where do I click again to get this part?
can't wait for SBJP 2.0
1 2 subaru baby . Do love the inverted subaru balljoints, good design unlike rear hub long bolt lol, would love a tool for 5 second fix on that lol . What I tend do on these when splitting and BJ being replaced is soak with plenty penetrating oil . get the cotter bolt out, spray some more oil lol . use a thin short chisel in the knuckle joint slit to open it just a fraction, spray some more oil . now pry lower arm off the knuckle and BJ comes with it easy . once out whizz nut off the BJ and use a standard BJ clamp to pop it out the lower arm and job jobbed . Your SBJPv1.0 seems work👍 only reason they tight is all corrosion causes expansion and gritty mess in the groove collects all the crud, using thin chisel in knuckle slit (with care) breaks the rust bond a bit and reduced tension so generally pop out easy .
Genuiss Eric!
Gonna make a few and go around to the shops in my area and see how it go's.. thank man, check will be in the mail if it all go's right.....lol.
Cool haircut!
Very cool tool ! For "production", I would start with a 2" piece of hex bar. Slap it in the drill press vice or lathe. Center up he part and drill the minor ID for the smaller bolt all the way through. Flip the work piece around and drill the minor ID for the large bolt. Tap as required !
I just patented one with interchangeable ends. No just kidding 🤣 Good Idea!!
