Tool Review: Bosch 12” GCM12SD Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This tool review is for the Bosch 12” sliding compound miter saw, #GCM12SD. This saw has been the workhorse for my shop for the past two years, and its predecessor with traditional linear rails for 10 years before it. I’ve used many saws over the year but this one if my favorite. The best part is the axial glide system that allows for buttery smooth cuts and can be put up flat against a wall with no back-side clearance needed.

    *Remember that this saw needs to have adjustments made to make 0 or 90 cuts accurately **MyBest.Tools** I had to use a right angle on the deck and blade and then adjust the bolt to get the correct reading. Once this is done, it works great.*

    Nice review, thanks! I'm looking into one, probably the 10" (very small shop issues)

    Thank you! The 10" is a good compromise, I rarely exercise the 12" capacity in crosscut, I got it more for cutting thickness capacity. Anything wide is far more precise to cut square on the table saw with a crosscut or slider sled. Thanks for watching.

    If you push it as close to the wall as possible, what’s the measurement to the front of the fence?

    First video I’ve seen if yours. Subd. Do the pivots point show any signs of play in any direction?

    No but I take good care of the saw. The saw has adjustments too if they come out of whack over time.

    I've had one for three years and have used it heavily in the field. As of now, it hasn't developed any more side to side play than it had when it was brand new. The pivots do form a tiny bit of surface rust if they get wet and stay wet overnight, but still no sign of any wobble in any direction. I will say that there is more side to side play than DeWalt sliders, but just a little bit. It still cuts perfectly straight if I take care to push the blade straight back and forth with a couple passes when cutting larger material. As far as up and down play, it had some out of the box, so if you're going to be using the depth stop to cut half laps or whatever with it, then this isn't the saw for you. The depth stop is rudimentary at best

    I’ve had too much play with it from day one. I’m comparing to my 12” sliding dewalt that I keep on the job-site. I put zero clearance inserts on both my saws and within days, the Bosch is now a 1/4” gap at its widest. My dewalt is still barely wider than 1/8”.

    Hey Brian, nice review. Do the plastic detents cause you any concern for long term stability?

    Apologies in advance for the ignorance: I don’t have much space and I need a all-in-one chopsaw/mitre solution. Is there a way I can also use this for metal? Speed control, compatible blades? Thanks!

    There are plenty of good blades for metal, both non ferrous and ferrous metals. Long gone are the days of only having abrasive cutoff wheels, you can get carbide tipped blades for cutting mirror finishes in aluminum and steel. I would say that aluminum, no major issue for extrusions but I wouldn't cut thick plate. I also would search around to see if there are any issues cutting steel. This saw is certainly not designed for it and best to google it see if anyone has tested it in this application.

    I recently picked one up I saw on marketplace the guy was selling brand new in box with recept for 500 I know they honor 649 plus tax at Home Depot I asked why not just return he showed it was bought on store credit, I jumped at it because it was a great deal, just 2 days prior j bought the Metabo 10 inch zero clearance I paid 399 plus tax so a difference of like 70 dollars I believe I got a better saw.

    Does it have a laser?

  • @briancnc

    @briancnc

    Yes but honestly who uses them, my accuracy is a find pencil line, with the projection of the laser it's nearly the width of a blade kerf. The battery dies quickly too.
