Tool restoration: Vintage German Heuer vise by Isographer
Ойын-сауық
Recently I have decided to restore this German 1920's DRP (abreviation for Deutsches Reichspatent ) Heuer vise that has been lying around for ages in my garage and convert it to a semi-portable vise, designed to hold small to medium pieces of work. The following video documents this process. While restoring the vise I have tried to keep the process simple and avoid using any complicated tools or chemicals (including any rust-removals like Evapo-Rust), to show how this task could be accomplished even with modest tools and equipment. The vise was painted with Hammerite paint.

I liked this video because despite the few means available, the restoration of the bench vice was done well and with a lot of willpower.
Interesting - I've seen several videos on REALLY big/strong Heuer vises, but not a small one. BTW, you may or may not know that this is a forged vise, not a cast one, so it's a lot stronger than you might think.
You put much work into restoring this fine vise. Thank you for sharing, and God Bless!

Great job. Really nice vise, well worth the restoration. Your other vise looks good also. Time to give it a redo?

Hy, thanks for the kind words. To be frank it will not happen soon as the second vise is a locally produced one (Romania) in the 1990's and is not as valuable and is quite common around here. Furthermore, it is the vise I abuse the most and sees a lot of grinding, hammering and bashing not to forget all those times I've clamped something in it and heated up with a blowtorch... so unfortunately it won't get pretty any time soon.... I just oil the main screw and sliders from time to time.
👍👍👍👍
Now that’s a good moveable vise that base is probably heavy enough to allow some medium duty work without it becoming unstable! I’m sure it will be handy for you, I know it would be for me

Thanks! Part of the reason I decided to use that configuration (movable metal base) was the fact that I have decided to only use this particular vise for light to medium duty work, as to preserve it as much as possible. I do have another vise that I use and abuse and it is a common model here where I live so preserving this 100 Yrs old German vise seemed like a good idea.
