Tool is the best band I have ever heard. They’re simply on another level. So dynamic. They’re melodic and then they turn it to “11”. All 4 members are masters of their craft. Thank you for the reaction. It’s always great to connect with others that can appreciate just how special this group is. Can’t wait for the new album which they are currently recording. And congrats on England’s victory!!!

Danny Carey(the drummer) spent years years training under a master to learn tabla drumming, then he brought in an engineer to replicate the sound and made his own pad. Years of work for a 20 second bit, that is the essence of Tool.

Yes. this is different from the studio version, I suggested this because it's easily one of the greatest live performance's ever, those high notes by Maynard at the end really are amazing for how crisp they sound being that it's live. just remember one thing. You don't listen to Tool, You experience Tool that's the difference from them then anyone ever.

Started out watching your "The Grudge" reaction when you weren't quite sure what Tool is and went on to "Lateralus" and now this, grinning like a useful idiot the whole time. I can't imagine what it must be like to discover this band at this stage of your life. I can remember watching Sober make its MTV debut in 1993 at the age of 16 like it was last week and here I am 26 years later just as awestruck and inspired by this band as ever. Welcome to the Tool Army.

The version of No Quarter on Salival is not live, it's a studio recording. There was an earlier version that leaked months before Salival came out that sounded nearly identical but had some differences in the guitar and length of certain sections. It's very difficult to find online, but if you can't take my word that it is a studio recording and not live then it may be worth the search

The studio version is raw and aggressively vitriolic, the contrast between the two complement each other, feels to me like the two sides of the conversation. When I started listening to Tool, I thought this was about a toxic love affair, sent shivers down my spine when I realised that it was also about the relationship between the id and the ego...

Danny Carey actually has a hybrid kit. His kit is a Sonor acoustic kit but he also electronic pads called Mandala pads, something that he helped develop, that are electronic pads that are making the tabla sounds that you hear here.

Thanks for doing this one, and congrats on the win against Sweden! Another melodic one, which at moments is VERY similair to Pushit live is Right in Two. Try giving it a listen. A side recommendation: You should check out Maynard's second band, A Perfect Circle, a good song to start with would be Orestes, Judith or The Hollow.

Hey Jim, like it very much to watch you reacting good music. Especialy Tool, was fun to see you hearing it the first time (grudge). Very clear analytics, getting to the point! A recommendation: the band is kyuss, songs could be demon cleaner, green machine, fatso forgotso, freedom run, gardenia... I would love it to watch you discovering them! Greetings from Leipzig

Thanks for doing this one friend. Those tribal drums you heard are Tabla's played by a man named Aloke Dutta on stage. He is an established Bengali player. He played along side Carey for this song, the other noises you hear during Aloke's parts are Danny playing on his Mandala Drums (Electric). On your off time you should listen to the studio version of this song as well. Not as tribal, but just great non-the less. More tool (slowly of course - alot to absorb) in the future, please!

No doubt it's a beautiful song.. the way the song transcends and builds up.. You should try Right in two , no quarter and wings for Marie (1 and 2). Im sure you won't be disappointed.. love all tool songs. Tool as a band are one of those few gems where the songs are an epic journey and a band where each of the band member are a class apart. Peace.

I have to beg to differ!! Think their tour in 2014 they had the best your of their careers which made this new album they created to be such a drastic change in their mindset going after the emotions of the listener!! Which no other band in history has 4 of the best musicians to walk the earth!!

This is great but you should really try the studio version too, to appreciate the diversity of this version. Also you get that visceral intro that feels like it’s digging in deep.
