"What happened to the music?" Took me a beat to realize what you said...outstanding response!
Your video quality is increasing at a crazy speed. Keep up the great work!
Beautifully filmed and edited. I'm sure it's exciting to see the Tormach perform; I could feel the giddiness on this end. 😁
Killing it guys. Your checking things off my to do list waaaaay faster than me. You're currently... 4 years ahead. So I'll be back in a bit...
You have some very nice surface finishes! Looks like you learned a lot about speeds and feeds.
Thanks for all the content!
Wow, that turned out like a really nice little unit!
Love all your videos, awesome job on this one
I love how this started out like a QVC infomercial lol. Overall great loved the design. Wish I knew how to work CAD.
Jak zwykle dobra robota, merytorycznie i na temat.
Great build and great results. Didnt know about those other channels either. Thanks.
Loving all the content!
everyone is digging my new "Physics Anonymous " tee shirt. Really getting a ton of comments on how sweet it is! Thanks Guys
Nice build. That looks like it works well Did you consider mounting the tool post and completing the final boring operation with a boring head in the lathe?
What an amazing video! Thank you guys!
that surface finish is nuts!
You are geting better and better! :D Ceep up the great job! 😁
If you have ever experienced a grinding wheel explosion... You may not ever experience anything again AT ALL. Do not try this without a substantial metal shield covering the wheel. When the wheel explodes it can go through a metal roof without any problems, imagine what it can do to flesh.
Nice job guys! Steve
Holy crap! You guys read my comment! I feel so involved all of a sudden :)
Hey, I'm fairly new to cylindrical grinding but i was dropped in the deep end on some rather complicated parts. best advice for small parts, coolant to help stop the wheel building up, causes some weird effects in surface finish and given the small spindle it to flex. dress the wheel as you did, then approximately step the wheel, leaving about 2-3mm of wheel. this will help towards rigidity and power usage. did you confirm that the probe body is centreline with the probe tip prior to modification? now you have means of cylindrical grinding make yourself a custom suited milling/ grinding spindle?
THE VERY BEST VID ON LATHE GRINDERS !!!
Nice show of strength: Spinning the Fly-cutter by hand 4:11!
my heart skipped a beat when you put the probe in the lathe XD
Loved the build! Link to the spindle you used?
Nice production of the video really enjoyed this who ever edited it.
Just saw the readon for the rabbot outstanding
Excellent work 👌🏼 I need to make me one of those to bring my own tool holders 😂
Do you guys have a profilometer to check Ra with? I’d be curious just to know. Keep up the killer work!
Nice Job
You should use the toolpost grinder to grind the lathe ways. Worked wonders on my south bend heavy 10l, I went from 4 thousands run out on the ways to 2 ten thousands.
what type of plating have you used for the aluminum bracket? Please
Nice tool path... looks like the end mill is in a half-pipe in a skate park.
Very cool !!!
Linuxcnc or mach 3 or mach 4? I am converting my mach 3 control to Linuxcnc for the modbus support that my atc build is using. I’ll hopefully have the atc fully running soon. Love the videos guys!
Sweet grinder!! What was the material you used for the new probe arbor? It didn't look too hard when you turned it to size which to me misses the main benefit of grinding...I don't think grinding soft material on a lathe is going to benefit you in accuracy or concentricity...the thought is that you heat treat the arbor first, then grind it to size, and now you have a very wear resistant part, vs a soft part with a ground finish. But it's still a sick grinder, you just need to show us how to make a heat treatment oven now! 🍻

All good points Nathan. We definitely plan on working with hardened steel soon. This was just what we had on hand. I am sure a good tight lathe wouldn't see much benefit from grinding non hardened steel, but between our crappy insert tooling and tool deflection, it's almost impossible to get a good press fit on our lathe. So the grinder helps us with all sorts of projects.
The tape on the beaker is telling.
Can this be in the next video? That would be awesome
nice work guys, but that 3/4 post for the probe you made, should you not have dialed it in with a 4 jaw chuck before grinding it? i might be wrong but i dont think the centre of the shank will be concentric with the centre of the probe? or does that not matter?? TIA
Was that silver anodizing for just surface protection?
One tiny quibble: how did you ensure the shank's centerline was concentric with the po robe axis? Is there any adjustment? I ask this because it appears you simply three jawed the probe body and started grinding. Plesse tell me you established the shank axis from body mounting references.

Greetings - at 4:39 when you comment on the finish, what type of tool are you using ??
I don't necessarily have to swear, but DANG that is a sexy lump of aluminum, you made right there! MAN!!!!!
I have one question How would you adjust the height of your new grinder attachment for the lathe? Or is that not something you'll ever need to adjust? Usually tool posts are adjustable up and down.
@PhysicsAnonymous
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, no adjustment on the hight. It could be my ignorance, but I'm not sure why you would need a hight adjustment if the tool is on center.
Good 👍
Whats with the rabbits on the lathe tool holder? Love the work on the lathe.
I saw what you did with the volume.
Where did you guys pick up that motor unit?
Amazing 👌👌👌✌️👍
Did you check the runout on the spindle? I tried to do this but the runout made it impossible.
Where did you get the grinding wheels from
What liquid did you dip it in and what was the name of the process?
A nice work thanks sir from India bykhushi eng
Great editing, especially with music incorporation. The way the mill was in sync with the beat at 3:17 was fantabulous.
whats the finishing process at 5:10 called?
What was the bath that you used for the aluminium parts?

Anodizing- just to keep it from getting all scratched up. Maybe next time we'll add some color to it too

That tool post grinder looks slick, especially with the anodized surface but it's not very heavy and in order to avoid chatter you really should add som####ERR34158 - Banned from channel####

What is your guys education slash day job?
Of course it was in a bonanza, freaking doctor killers.

Good job! Feel free to embed you homemade tool vids on our forum; you're one of us :)
Almost makes me want a Tormach....almost.
Funny well over engineer tool post for a grinder. I hope you realize that it didn't need to be center because it is spinning. Nice montage of all the cad work and end result.
@noanoxan

Sounds like you don't have much machining experience. The tool needs to be set to the center of the work or it won't cut properly, spinning or not.

@@noanoxan I have 15 years of experience Thank you for asking BTW. I know that it doesn't need to be center.

@Chris No it does not need a circle on a circle is tangent no matter where you touch.
@marc-antoinethebeautiful7714
4 жыл бұрын
@Chris It is not or wheel. it is a wheel on wheel. Take 2 object that are round. Next put them so that they touch each other. Now imagine one is fix like the spindle of your machine and imagine the other one to be the grinder wheel spinning. Now tell me who is the idiot. There is no centerline both touch each other to the tangent no matter where you put it.
seen someone that made the grinder so it could be mounted to the quick change setup on the toolpost , basicly made the dovetail piece that slides ontoo the toolpost with a mount for the engine from a solid piece makes it a lot more solid and you dont need to take everythig on the lathe apart to mount it \ he used this for the grinder : www.feramotools.nl/contents/media/t_rechte-slijper-houtrotfrees-spero.jpg

Well, the finish should be good. Look at the finish you get on a Crankshaft when you get it back from the machine shop.

@Chris Well when we grind a crankshaft it is done between centres. But in your hand is very different from seeing it on screen
Why do you need a tool post grinder for the lathe? What does it do that the lathe doesn’t?
@hyeloque3537

It comes down to the precision finnish and tolerance a toolpost grinder allows you to do cylindrical grinding which is process that will yield better tolerances, essential if you want to make pressfits for bearings for example
@PhysicsAnonymous
4 жыл бұрын
Indeed, hyelo is correct. It's all about precision. It can do this because the tool pressure is so much lower then a normal cutting tool, so the whole system doesn't have to be as rigid. It also allows you to remove much small amounts of material at a time, so sneaking up on a specific measurement is a lot easier.

That works too! One thing I like about our setup is it's very quiet and smooth. Every angle grinder I have come across is obnoxious after a few minutes of use.
One word.. Dremel
You ground the arbor with a shitty 3 jaw chuck? Why even bother? Built in 1.5thou runout!

Cool project, specially with making the new shank for the probe, buuut your inaccuracy from the lathe is showing. God, look at the parallelogram shaped grinder and shank shaft. Yeah, when you can obviously see 0.000000000000000000000000000195 of inaccuracy, specially via your video, it’s terrible! Just terrible! Couple of scrap artist. Yours is the only work piece I know that has a butter face. Naw, I’m just kidding. You guys did very well. As best you could with a crooked lathe. 😉 👍.
I watched every video expecting anything but a fast forward cleanup and repaint. you did not bother to address what you were doing at any time in ANY of the videos. some poor schmuck is going to see this series and think it will help them tear down their lathe.
90% bla bla bla
This motor cannot be used as a spindle, there is no rigidity in it, bearings are installed inside rubber bushings. You need to use this motor as a drive through a belt, and on a lathe send a spindle on tapered bearings to it.
@EDesigns_FL
4 жыл бұрын
They have show that the motor can in fact be used as a spindle; it's just not that great for this application. As you stated, the bearings have way too much play. A cursory examination of the finish shows the conspicuous cross-hatch pattern from the KZreadrs' attempts to clean-up their grinding with Scott Bright pads, which they didn't mention: VERY DISHONEST!
God that music is annoying.
