@@rtiq270 a whole album. If you play the songs in order of the Fibonacci sequence they actually gel together and combine into one complete track on Lateralus. That's why it takes so long for them to come out with an album, it's a work of art and a masterpiece of thought.

J R Thats actually not true, at all. Tool are very unorthodox. The layering process is very abnormal. Very often, Maynard lays the vocals down right after the drums.

Danny is goddamn amazing and he's so.....eclectic. I don't know how else to say it. He's very technical but he's so.......different. Top 3 for sure. I can't in good conscience put him before Zepplin's Bonham or Rush's Peart but since one has passed and the other is officially retired ........can't name anyone I'd put before Danny on a list of active bangers.

Yeah it is, I've listened to it with and without my headphones on and in my car (500 watt amp through 2 10" subs) without headphones I almost can't hear Justin at all when Adam comes in, even when it's just Justin and Danny the bass sounds really compressed. Headphones make a world of difference.

Maynard's vocals ARE an instrument Adam Jones is pound for pound the best guitarist around Justin looks and plays like what I assume Jesus would play like (if hes still rockin the long hair) Danny, well he is without a doubt the drummer to beat. I do feel sorry for the old bassist. Yeah, that guy that no one remembers. After Justin usurped his position, the band became whole. Sad note, probably their last album. Seeing how Maynard is doing so many other things in music and with his vineyard.

Phil Bert Paul D’Amour was the first bassist for Tool, and definitely not a scrub that nobody remembers lol. He’s done music with bands like Ministry, and Lusk. And a phenomenal bass player. Just saying lol Also, he left because he wanted to play guitar, rather than bass. Just thought I’d add that part in there lol.

Best thing about Tool is their ability to write and play in extremely fucked up time signatures and still sound smooth as an ocean. Not to mention they're usually all playing in a different time signature and just meeting back at the 16th or 32nd. Tool is just that band that makes your brain go "Pooof"

You are absolutely correct and that is why Carey stands out. People don't do this in popular music because either they can't do it or can't make it sound good, but Tool does both. Even studio guys that get paid big bucks can't do these odd time signatures this flawlessly.

Eulogy is possibly my favorite Tool song. “You said that this time you would die for me, why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy” Tool albums are intricate clusters of songs to experience as a whole, but fortunately songs are absolutely amazing to enjoy when you don’t have 80+ minutes available to take a journey.

As a lifetime TOOL fan I am so happy to see these types of eye-opening reactions The drums and bass are the soul of TOOL and the guitar and lyrics are the cherries in top. Great reaction

Reason why they are receiving so much attention is their last album released 13 years ago, they also just released all their music to streaming platforms, the band is pretty reclusive, and they remain to this day, one of the deepest, most spiritual experiences in metal music.

To answer your last question, it was worth the wait. It's Tool, and as a Tool fan, that's all I can ask for. They haven't diluted themselves.

Well worth the wait. That song is everything I’ve always loved about Tool put into one song. Also, I heard Maynard talking on Joe Rogan about how he never write lyrics before the music. He always writes the lyrics TO the music. So your comment about the music vs lyrics actually makes sense with Tool. But don’t ignore the lyrics. Maynard’s are always extremely deep and cryptic.

love that you feel the drums! I've been a Tool fan since the early 90's. I have always felt that the drummer ( Danny ) is the main ingredient to their sound. Of course in any band the drums are the main foundation and beat that holds it together, but Danny is like no other and totally gives Tool their signature sound.

Danny Carey is the drummer and he is concidered one of the most creative and powerful drummers of our generation.

This is like foreplay. It's been a while and we're a bit out of practice, so Tool starts off gentle.

You defintely should react to more tool jambi, lateralus, stinkfist, wings for marie pt 1 and 2, parabol/parabola

I always catch hate from Deftones fans, but I can count their good songs one hand. All he does is creepily sing into the mic and then blast your ear drums out with his terrible screams.

I saw them live twice and after the 1st one I wrote them off cause it was one of the worst shows I've seen, til I saw them the 2nd time and they blew my mind...still not a fan, but the song "my own summer" is fantastic

If you like the musical aspect of metal music, you should check out Coheed And Cambria. They're an amazing band. The singer has a high pitched voice, so he takes some getting used to. I'd start with the song Welcome Home.

They're okay but come on not even close. Imo better recommendations for someone that likes TOOL would be Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Rage against the machine, and ofc a perfect circle.

Never managed to get into Tool but after hearing this I need to go back and try for the 5th time.

Tool.. Is a tool of music and sound of spiritual and emotional evolutions of self understanding and awareness , of who we are as spritual beings... How the.. shadow.. . the ego.. Works and affects us internally and externally. We all have had some sort of traumatic experiences in our past...that has greatly affected all of us to a world of distress and unbalanced lifestyle. This unbelievable next level music.. Is a tool.. To understanding and evolving to the next level of your spiritual self and with that.. You will be able to emotionally unlock yourself of your inner captivities.. Just my own insight as a life long tool fan.. And i absolutely love this song.. You are awesome bro.. Your reaction videos are great.. Best of luck to you... SPIRAL OUT KEEP GOING...

Lenny Freire hey Lenny, thanks for such an insightful write up, funny after 20 years with the band I never understood that their music was the tool until tonight. I’m battling my own trauma now, my own brutal anxiety and fear and this song and lateralus coming right after is really helping to create a breakthrough. Just wanted to reach out and appreciate your reading of the band and their music.

Tool: Third Eye Easily my favorite song of theirs. You gotta check out the live version from the album Salival. Lengthy but worth every second.

One way to make that sound is to hammer on a note and then turning the volume pot of the guitar up, then down. Makes that sound like a cello.

Is that the same technique from My Dying Bride's 'She is the Dark' where they Play a note, turn the volume all the way off, then hammer on a different note before turning it up again?

I love TOOL. Most talented and genius band on the planet. It’s like the soundtrack to our existence. Very unique bunch of guys. Amazing stuff.

Tool albums are meant to be listened to start to finish. It’s a journey through your/our conscious. I never thought I’d live to see the next TOOL album and cried when I heard this track play on the radio for the first time. It was beautiful. After so many years in wait it was epic. Coach, check out Parabol+Parabola, Wings for Marie pt.s 1&2, The Grudge, Sober, and so many more. You’re ready to jump in the deep end. And buy yourself these albums, you will enjoy. If you listen to MJK on Joe Rogan podcast, he explicitly states that albums are NOT necessarily meant to be listened to start to finish. He says, if they were then that is how they would play them live. They have never once played an album start to finish live.
