Took the 250R to The Trails and it Handles Amazing!
Although I build this quad for the MX track and jumping, I decided to hit up some rocky trails to see how it would handle. Aside from getting a flat and discovering that running with an open air filter is not optimal for the trails, the quad handled amazingly and I had almost no fatigue. I do think there is more tweaking to be done with the motor, I don't think the powervalve is opening all the way and I still need to play with the jetting.

    Might be a bit rich in air but definitely sounds crisp. My 250r rips all gears it’s amazing even though it’s a 250r it’s a monster and being a rider my boys don’t keep up on there 350 Banchee or the 450r the power bands on point. Honestly you should consider a counter wait that 250r is one of the most well built machines and you sir definitely brought this legend to life.💪🏻

    Hey brother. Mike Allen here. Ive had my 87 250R, for three decades. I used to race at Daniel Boone motocross Park. And other tracks in Kentucky. I hallways thought my R was the nicest one i'd ever seen.Due to the care and attention to detail,i've been able to put in to it for so many years. Untill now. Super cool build brother. Yeah,i'm like you. The power should be a lil' better. Your having,either a ring size issue (mine has the ring size issue as I type this). Due to me rebuilding it and not remembering the ring size ,after a decade ago,of my overhaul-bore. Or you've got a power valve issue.The latter ,most likley. I've just started getting back in to playing with my R. I bought a new 2008 700xx. And I love the torque.Anyways.Good job bro.Super nice bike brother

    Run your air box when your trail riding around water and such things... All the other places where you dont have to worry about interfering with the filter, run it open like at the dunes just make sure to run a pre-filter and keep it oiled and keep an eye on it they'll fill up with sand if you over oil or are just chucking sand on it all the time. I like the open look, hate the problems that can happen...lol! Hey live and learn, shit happens!!! Good rule of thumb always bring another filter never know when you'll need it, can save you time and a lil bit of frustration!!! Always pack a fix it kit extra spark plug, tire plug kit few tools that might help if your stuck, you can make one up pretty cheap and can save you if your in the middle of nowhere stuck....Something else I've learned the hard way, give yourself a bit of space between your riding buddy and you when your behind them, I've had a baseball sized rock hit me in the knee from a IT465 Roost made me damn near jump off the bike. I was out for a couple weeks cause of it!!! Stay up keep the rubber side down!!!! Oh yea and another good job getting it fixed up hope you got it dialed in, sweet machine bro, great touch on every bit!!!

    Being a retired pro ATV racer, I can tell you there's nothing like riding a vehicle with suspension that's tuned to your weight and riding style. That's the first mod I recommend anyone get, before a pipe, or reeds, or porting, anything. Suspension first. I'm guessing he didn't touch the shocks, but could've went with a little lighter compression and faster rebound for the trails.

    Steve Banda Shouldn’t take months for an LED pipe, maybe a few weeks. I have an LED Sphynx 300 and 250C raw pipe that I just got a few weeks ago. Haven’t put it all together yet to try out, but hopefully soon. There is very little info out there on the Sphynx 300, because for the same price you can get a 344 or 363. And most go with that.

    Shaun I’m not sure if it’s because I got the chrome pipe. When i ordered a few weeks ago I got an email saying to expect to be delivered in 12-15 weeks! I’m just trying to get the best performance I can without having to get the cases bored. I tried and couldn’t find much info on the 300 either. Just a post on a forum that a pro Xc rider was using that setup and it was making 50-55 hp. Does that seem right?

  • @shaun88R

    @shaun88R

    @@stevebanda8776 They do have two guys doing pipes now, which is great. But I'm sure chrome is going to delay things a bit for you. And a few weeks ago was peak sales in like 10 years! You don't have to bore your cases for the Sphynx 300, but I decided to because I didn't want the skirt to be cut down to fit. It's a nikasil cylinder without a sleeve, so all you would have is thin aluminum there. If you don't want to open the bottom end up, I would honestly just get a CEO non-PV ported they way you want from Arlan. Performance would be the same as the Sphynx. I just wanted a high quality CPI casting and Nikasil bore for better heat dissipation. Either of these should put out 50-55hp. My friend had just a regular LED ESR 300 (non-CEO) with a 250C pipe on race gas from Arlan and it dyno'd around 52hp.

    You should look into taking a trip to the Hatfield McCoy trails in WV they are a lot better not since they widened it for sxs and atv's that thing would rip.

    In our woods over here in the burgh, you'll see hundreds of burned up stolen vehicles lmao 🤣. People commonly did this in the 80s and 90s i think. But ya this was a good video Mike

    Yeah man open air filter no good. I run a air box and have plenty of power just rejet. Also run your carb hoses that loop up and over the carb up to the upper shock mount and zip tie them up there. The reason there lopped is so water dosnt suck in but unless there up you can still get water sucked in there.
