Mr Mulcair, you like to criticize PM Trudeau. You should do the same for Singh, NDP leader who supports PM Trudeau for nine years to stay in power. Tell him that it is ashamed for the NDP party to have Singh as a leader.

Trudeau states they will build 3.9 million homes by 2031. That’s about 7.5 years from now. 3.9 million / 7.5 = 533,333 homes per year. It means 44,444 homes every month. It means 1,461 new homes every day. It means 182 new homes every hour. How likely is this? CMHC states housing starts in 2023 were around 223,000 and 240,000 in 2022. Only in 2021 did starts go over 300,000 (according to Trading Economics). What are the odds the government can double production? Also, by trying to do so, even if they do, this will massively increase demand for building materials and workers. This will drive up the cost of materials, labour, and land. These new houses will be some of the most expensive ever built. No one will be able to afford these houses.

DOES ANYONE REALIZE ??????????????????? That regarding ghg emissions attributed to residential Home Construction materials/services/labor and imputs.... Increasing Canadian Home building to ~600K homes/yearly from the current ~200K/Yearly in order to meet this 3.9 Million homes built by 2031 pledge from Mr Trudeau suggests A FAR GREATER INCREASE in ghg emissions..... than all the total planned CarbonTax ghg emissions reductions combined will provide in the same period to 2031 ? In fact.... that level of new Home Building suggests a 170 Million Metric Tonnes/yearly INCREASE in Canadian ghg Emissions to a total 250 Million Metric Tonne ghg Emissions/yearly from the current 88 Million metric tonnes/yearly....

Tom nailed it when he said "We haven't done anything because we didn't think it was our job. Oh wait Poilievre is crushing it because we forgot take care of housing... we promise now we'll start taking care of housing! Too little, too late." that's exactly it. There needs to be a way to hold elected politicians accountable to the promises that they make while campaigning, other then the meek response of just voting for the other party on the next election. We need something with teeth to make sure politicians actually do what they say they will do when they run for office.

Considering that it's question period for the Conservatives, it's the liberals are supposed to be answering the questions. So why doesn't the speaker tell them to answer.

@@john15008 Is there a labour shortage? There is somewhat of a shortage to do really crappy jobs. For jobs requiring a bachelor degree there is a substantial labour surplus. Also, the problem with a stagnant birth rate is simply the nature of our ponzi scheme economy. That's what needs to change.
