    I feel like at this stage the undecided vote isn't really Trump v Biden, I think for a lot of people the question is voting vs not voting. People who Tuned into the debate as matt said to see if Biden was actually alive and capable to move around and think on his own by and large I don't think would have gone to trump otherwise. if the debate had come and they wheeled biden out and he was in a vegatative state, those people would have just dropped out of voting all together.

    You need to understand the broader picture for the anti-capitalist left. The supreme court is a tool of capital and even if it has minor defenses, they're largely circumvented (see how abortion is "legal" and you might have one clinic in a 500 mile radius) and the only purpose the court has now is to stop and legislation that might harm capital. The Democrats outright said they won't do anything to fix the court, either. If there is still a supreme court in 20 years, it truly doesn't matter. It's like if a fire broke out on the Titanic. That sucks, but even if that wasn't there, you still just hit the iceberg. We will have either moved beyond a system where everything is gatekept by capital (or what remains/replaces of it as profits continue to fall), or we get socialism.

  • @johannF09

    @johannF09

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@cyanplaza5153 I completely get that the court is a tool of capital. I just agree with the late Michael Brooks that there is still enough margin for misery in the difference between GOP and Dem politics that it will still matter. We don't know what will happen in 20 years, and in the mean time enough people will still get hurt that I think this still matters. Am I supposed to believe that there is some kind of countdown on heightened contradictions? It can get worse and stay that way. There's too much contingency, and while I am aware that at the state level abortion is de facto illegal in some states, it isn't like that nationally yet. Also given that Matt is a prominent leftest Podcaster, shouldn't he be a bit more concerned about a pro-fascist, as opposed to merely pro-capital, justice system? Didn't they already start investigating Brace?

  • @cyanplaza5153

    @cyanplaza5153

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@johannF09 The issues with that are: 1) The Democrats, the supposed "harm reduction party" already came out and said they won't pack the courts, nor will they stop the new justice from being seated. So, in the short and medium term there's nothing you can do. The only political party that could stop this judicial coup from happening just said to sit and spin, mostly because whatever they decide won't actually harm them. They have enough money to circumvent whatever fresh hell comes down the pipeline. 2) The point isn't to wait for some supposed countdown of conditions, the point is as a leftist, they really, truly don't matter to you. The Democrats will never listen to any suggestions you'd want to see on the court. They won't even bother fighting for a "moderate" piece of shit like Garland. If we were in a position to influence the court, we would simply abolish the court. Any energy, even just being emotionally invested in the outcome (which, don't get it twisted, even with votes is the most investment you or I will ever have in this process) is wasted. 3) Historical context shows that, in context to the broader anti-capitalist left, the democrats will just be as hostile as the GOP. I remember how Occupy was brutally put down. I remember Obama doubling down on calling Ferguson protestors "thugs". And Biden and the Democratic party are further to the right (mostly due to a combo of "their donors won't even allow for discussion of social democratic policies" and liberals who might be amenable to the left still voting for them anyways) than they were in 2014. Fascism rises when capital is in crisis. Biden isn't suggesting anything to either solve that crisis or even just be slightly less brutal than Trump in regards to protestors. If you think he's gonna give a pardon to the 4 PSL members that got arrested recently, you're insane. So no, smoke a blunt and kick up your feet. Liberals can fight over this decrepit institution if they want to waste their time on it. If you are anti-capitalist in any meaningful way, you've been shut out of this fight. If they want shit to get better, they gotta come to us, because no other alternative is coming down the pipeline, whether we want it or not.
